Tablecloths - do you use them ?

We never use a tablecloth on our old rustic table in our kitchen/diner but do in the formal dining room. Actually I have loads of tablecloths that I have collected over the years.

I have always used a tablecloth and two out of three children do as well, the other one does at Christmas

I have always used a tablecloth when eating at the dining table. I enjoy dressing it with cloth napkins, sisal mats, candles, flowers, nice glasses etc

I have inherited all the cloths from both sides of the family. I tend to use the easy to wash non-iron ones the most.

I embarrassed myself on Boxing day when I managed to spill throw a large glass of red wine across a perfect white linen cloth at my DD's mother in law's house.

She said it didn't matter whilst moving us all to another room while she extracted the cloth and plunged it into a bucket of stain remover, bleach?

I bought a beautiful Indian tablecloth from a charity shop £8. It was so lovely, I couldn’t just leave it in the shop. It’s large and covers my table and makes the room look very stylish. It has a couple of faded areas but I love it.
At my seaside house we have a bare wood table so just place mats are used.

I do. I have one hanging on the washing line right now.

There is an oilcloth for everyday, mainly to protect the table when my little grandsons are here and I have a special linen Christmas one

I use a tablecloth and I also use placemats. At Christmas time I use a thick vinyl Chrismassy one. It's great as it's wipe clean -as there seems to be a permanent display of food over a few days. It's also very pretty.

I use an easy-wash cotton tablecloth in the kitchen because I like the cheerful look of it (and the table isn't the greatest anyway). The dining table, in multi-use all the time, only gets used for eating on special occasions - then I go all out with hand-made linen (undercloth, overcloth & napkins), all embroidered and/or crocheted by me and other family members (it's just occurred to me that they are all dead now, so another good reason to keep the tradition alive).

Always have a tablecloth on the table at mealtimes.

Catches crumbs and any ‘bits’.

Then after we finish, I ‘shake the cloth’ outside.

Not bothered if fashionable or not.

This brings back what was probably my earliest memory as a little toddler. I was in the home of my Great-Grandparents and someone shook the tablecloth. I was mesmerised.

Christmas Day only, our table is very forgiving, if we have people for dinner we use mays.

I used to use tablecloths, but haven`t had a table for several years now. There`s only me and I have my plate on my knee, sometimes I use a small folding table.

I have an extendable table which I have hung onto over the years (despite ex wanting to get rid of it. lol it was him who went). I use the table a lot for craft/sewing projects and need the big table when layering larger quilts and blocking crochet items.

It's covered by a heat protector and lately by a liquid resistant ,pretty, pale cream tablecloth I got new in a charity shop.

The cream cover was going to be given to my DD but I decided to keep it for myself and am so glad I did. The cream colour really brightens the room and I have various sets of quilted place mats I've made to use for different occasions.

Growing up, our table always had a chenille cloth but a cotton/gingham one was placed on top for meals and .yes, the crumbs were shaken off outside after meals. Jeez, this is taking me back ....

no table now sadly but when I did I kept using tablemats cloths etc so pretty
to be honest the antimacassars were damn useful would be no good on a leather sofa but a cloth one with arm caps did look so nice and dressed

I have three Provence-style waxed heavy cotton ones that I rotate.
Wash in the machine and iron hot (on the non-waxed side😂)
and Bob's your auntie.
I've had them for years.

As we have a living room/ dining room our table gets used for everything! So we have an oil cloth table cloth on it all the time and fabric ones for Sundays and special days. As it was my mums table so quite special I try to take care of it.

I live alone now so eat with a tray on my knee or else sit at the kitchen counter. On the rare occasions family eat here then it's always a heat protection mat, a tablecloth and linen napkins.

Christmas only with special cloths. The rest of the time a protector and Dunelm oilcloth.

Our lovely pine table for 8 a friend made for us way back in the 80s was much used and abused over the years, but on special occasions I did use a tablecloth. Two inherited and another also hand made bought in Portugal at a local market.
Now never use one we have a Dekton table which is bullet proof , or almost, a simple wipe and clean.

Not often.

Usually I just scrub and polish surfaces after meals. Islands are granite, worktops and dining tables quite old walnut. Lots of children come round, we like ease of care.

Same here, and we use different cloth napkins rather than paper ones.

I have an oilcloth for daily and a lovely proper tablecloth for special occasions. I’m on my own so I usually sit with a plate on my armchair and I have conveniently situated, a window sill for my cuppa , on a coaster ofcourse 😂

When we had a dining room with a genuine antique dining table from MiL, it had a cloth on it because that room was mainly used by me and the children for homework and meetings. Our downsize has no dining room and our 1960s kitchen/dining table from Heals also has a plastic cloth on it. But I do sometimes put a,rather pretty vintage seersucker cloth on it.

Have always used one I think it makes the table look dressed.
