I have a tariff which gives much cheaper electricity between 10pm and 8am, every night. That’s when the dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer are used. Not smug at all, but free electricity between 7pm and 11pm one night of the year doesn’t sound much of a giveaway to me.

4hours one night is better than anything EDF have offered since we got our smart meter.
Where do I go to register my interest? Emails to EDF have so far proved futile.

Wow! Pantglas2. šŸ‘
Did you plug the car into the EV charger too?
And wash your hair so you could use the hairdryer and styling tongs?

I might have if I had an EV ā€œescapedā€!

I did put dishwasher on after all that culinary effort and I’m lucky not to need hairdryer/tongs - I did ask Mr PG if lawn needed a trim…it was so sunny in north wales šŸ“󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳ó æ that day🤣

They offered something similar during autumn culminating with free electricity from 8-4pm on Xmas day which meant I washed and dried 4 loads of laundry and utilised the oven for the whole roast shebang with added baked potatoes, fruit crumble and sausage rolls for later that week!

Yes it’s a saving 😊

Bea65 Thu 06-Feb-25 15:47:32

Yes do the Sunday saver too but, forget sometimes 😊

We wouldn’t change our habits at all.

British Gas and Scottish Power already do similar?

I was overjoyed to get a notification from Octopus saying free electricity!!! Couldn’t wait ….

Half an hour free from 8.30 to 9pm one Friday night! Octopus said ā€˜do the laundry’ or ā€˜make a meal’. What - beans on toast??

Come on Octopus - surely you can do better?

I’m not a customer of EDF, but four hours of free electricity one evening wouldn’t exactly fill me with joy.

Obviously you don’t need the savings? How smug!

Bea65 Thu 06-Feb-25 14:17:21

Yes you do have to register your interest but if it saves me money, then I’m all in …

Sounds like something we had in France, (EDF being French of course).
We had red, white and blue days where the price varied enormously, and I'd go mad on the very cheap days using all the appliances! Have fun!

We get this regularily with Octopus, it is all to do with using power during quieter hours, and when there is a surplus of green energy. We just leave things like the dishwasher, tumble drier etc until we have the couple of free hours, and so far, in the last four weeks it has been the equivalent of 2 days free electricity. It is not in the middle of the night or anything like that, it is generally mid afternoon, presumably to encourage us to do what we need to do before the big surge of families coming home at around 5pm.

I hadn't heard of it either, just looked it up. You have to register your interest in their Sunday Saver challenge, where you switch your weekday peak hour usage to off peak times ( Sundays). You have to have a smart meter and opt into half hourly meter reads.

I'm with EDF. Haven't heard this.

Aaw! 🄰🄰🄰🄰🄰🄰🄰 they are all ā¤ļø these energy companies!
Perhaps they are counting on the population all having candlelit dinners or doing other things with the lights out?

As a customer was pleased to hear this news - apparently between the hours of 7pm and 11pm, electric is free😊
Think I might run the washing machine and ??? Keep my electric blanket on…

Bake a cake - never…useless at baking

What would other GNs do?
