Marydoll Sat 08-Feb-25 11:02:21

Borrheid, I never knew there was a webcam in the village!

I saw your PM, but it was late I was so cold and miserable, I decided to respond today.
Good luck with your scan. x

Good morning from Durham, very late for me, but I had to collect DD1’s work phone from her office.
It’s cold and wet here, but I’m hoping to see DD2 and DGS2 later, if they’ve no plans in place.

Best wishes to all. X

Morning all from a very dreich Ashford in Kent. Marydoll that village is 600feet higher than where you are, no wonder it’s colder! I often look on the village webcam to see what the weather is doing. When I was working in Scotland it was a good indicator of what clothes to pack! My father was born in the village so it’s very close to my heart. (BTW I sent you a PM yday to your inbox) We are off to Folkestone this afternoon. I am having an ultrasound on the lumps on my back. At least I get to see the sea and a visit to Morrison’s - we don’t have one in Ashford. Nearest one is 15 miles away.
I’ve had a cracker of a book to proofread this week about Lord Nelson. It tells the tale of the last four hours of his life, lying on the deck of Victory thinking back. The author had ‘all the right words, not necessarily in the right order’ as M&W would say. My comma, semicolon and space bar need a wee rest - they were very busy! The author left school aged 10 with no real grasp of punctuation. When I sent him the first few pages of corrections, he phoned to say just do it all, I trust you! There were more red lines than black letters! He has another bit of work for me so something to look forward to.

Hope you all have a good weekend.

Good morning everyone from a murky Severnside where I too am still in my nightie and dressing gown.

After my swim yesterday I watched a lot of Netflix. Today I must do something so aim to do some card making. First off I’ll put a new to me chicken recipe in the slow cooker.

I hope you all have a good day 💐

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 08-Feb-25 10:04:26

Hope your phone call goes well GrannySomerset. Skills of a diplomat needed by the sounds. Good luck.

Good morning Mick and all from a cloudy 3° northwest coast.
Art group yesterday in a different room as work is going on in the church. I could not get warm at all and kept my hat and coat on.

Paperwork today, sending emails to Germany to recover performing fees, a bit of a bother and I now have a hospital appointment to check a little swelling on my lymph node scar.
The same thing happened in spring last year and was clear, so the Dr. doesn’t think it’s anything to worry about, but I do!

Fab safari pic Ginny and thoughts to all🌺

GrannySomerset Sat 08-Feb-25 09:31:36

Went back to sleep but as I have no plans till later it doesn’t matter that I am still in my pyjamas. Need to walk up to the village and then have a difficult phone call this afternoon which will require wisdom and tact, neither of which I feel I possess. Meanwhile a very grey morning but at least not raining at present, the snowdrops are a delight and the days are noticeably longer.

Jaxjacky Sat 08-Feb-25 09:11:08

Morning from a dull chilly S Hants, yesterday was freezing with sleet/rain into the evening.
Out and about shops and fuelled up yesterday, no need to venture far today, MrJ has gone for my paper.
A bed delivered here will be taken over to my daughter, she enjoys a flat pack, not my genes, I have little patience!
Rugby to watch, noted BlueSapphire
Tricky for you Roses but time for action perhaps.

Good morning all and it’s wet but calm here in Essex.
The wind as we left our seaside cottage, nearly blew us off our feet and going over the Orwell Bridge was ‘exciting’ (not).😟.
It didn’t stop raining for the rest of the day.

Relaxing and hunkering down today, I’ll start my new book club book. Always exciting to have the next one, but this one is about an Octopus 🤔. Not sure it’s my ☕️.

I’ll do a bit of shopping first as Dd and dgd6 are coming for Sunday roast tomorrow. It will be nice to see them, although Dd hasn’t been too well. Hopefully just a cold and this time of year. She’s had recent blood tests! 🙏

No footie for Dh and ds1 as the ground is too wet. DS1 has been on business in Paris this week so will be shattered. He should’ rest up but he never does. I expect him and DIL will pop in for coffee / chat sometime.

Take care all and keep warm and dry.🌱

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 08-Feb-25 08:55:20

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where it’s dry, not sunny and looks chilly out. L’il Miss is arriving soon. We will play Barbies, I’ve bought her a new comic (£6.99 😱) that has little gifts (an animal face purse for one) and contains stories we can read, a maze and a word search. I think I enjoy it as much as she does! Then we will go into the square for a mooch, a hot chocolate in Starbucks and up on the escalator into the library which is modern. When we go in she decides - walk up the stairs, the lift or the elevator grandma? 😁

The rest of our day will unfold as it takes us.

Beautiful photos ginny thanks for sharing, your holiday sounds wonderful. Enjoy the cruise coming up!

BlueSapphire Sat 08-Feb-25 08:43:17

Good morning everyone from a grey and damp Northampton, 2°C and forecast to be like this all day.

Small attendance at dance classes yesterday, lots of people off poorly, but it meant there was a bit more space to move!
Did not do a lot when I got home except make a chicken curry, read the paper and do the puzzles.

Will be making a hotpot in the slow cooker this morning, then an early lunch and out to live rugby this afternoon. Four of our backs will be away this afternoon, starting for England in the Six Nations. Watch out for Fin Smith, our young fly half goal kicker! Will watch that match when I get back.

Lovely safari pictures Ginny - I remember the excitement and wonder of our game drives from my South African holiday a couple of years ago.

Wishing all a good weekend.

Grandmabatty Sat 08-Feb-25 08:30:36

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 2° and damp or icy out. I can't make up my mind. Roses that must be very difficult for you. Brook shoots are springing forth in all my pots- except where the squirrels have been! Madeleine I love rhubarb. The early pink stalks are the best.
Yesterday I picked up the boys from school/nursery. They both had good days. Dgs1 was highlighted for being inclusive and was a star writer. He was very pleased with himself. Dgs2 has settled in well to nursery and loves being there. Dd arrived not long after we got home with flowers for me which was a nice surprise. Then her father in law knocked on the door. He had been walking his dog and saw her car, so came to see the boys. It didn't bother me but I don't think DD was too pleased. While in, I asked him if he had enjoyed the Christmas pudding I had given him. Apparently it had gone off! I was mortified and checked the others and they were mouldy too. I have never had that happen before. Dd checked one in her house which was fine. I think that's the last time I'll bother with them.
Today I'm going to Aldi then the library as a book I ordered is in. Afterwards dgs1 is coming for a sleepover. Popcorn, and his new favourite, nachos have been requested. I am looking forward to it. Have a good day all.

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 08-Feb-25 08:29:32

Morning all from a cool West Oxfordshire. I slept until after 8 am so I’m still in bed!

After yesterday’s visit to a private consultant, OH has decided to pay for a particular operation which he can’t get on the NHS. He will have it done when I get back from Australia in early March,

He has a friend calling in today - someone like OH who is both a beekeeper and belongs to a shooting club too.

I have a parcel to collect and I need to buy some petrol. There is a garage near me where it is ‘only’ 1.29!

Have a good day, especially those of you with difficulties.

Harris27 Sat 08-Feb-25 08:26:45

Good morning from a very cold NE. Will be in most of the day but going out for pizza with work friends a get together from three people who have left. Hubby will go with son to early match so some me time will be mine. I’m knitting at the moment and enjoying the process. Feeling the cold terrible at the moment and dreaming of spring. Have a good day all.

Liberty Sat 08-Feb-25 08:25:17

Good morning from a damp Suffolk. I think the very chilly strong wind of yesterday has gone, thank goodness.

A quiet day beckons where, after a dog walk, I intend to hunker down with my kindle and the papers. Reading about many of you enjoying TiB reminded me of the phrase …”bed tea” used in Indian homes and hotels I’ve been lucky enough to stay in. Obviously a universal pleasure.

Taichinan Sat 08-Feb-25 08:20:08

Wonderful photos ginny! Brought back many happy memories of a safari we went on in Kenya many years ago. Now, enjoy your cruise!

Susan56 Sat 08-Feb-25 08:19:58

Good morning from Shropshire.A dull and damp start.

Last nights sleepover didn’t happen as when we collected H the teacher said he had been coughing a lot and DGD hadn’t been to school as she felt sick although we think she was exhausted after the very late night after the concert the night before.

Today we will go to DD’s and then over to Staffordshire for DGS1’s seventh birthday party🥳

Roses💐so difficult for you.

Take care on your adventures madeleine.

Have a good day everyone🦩

harrigran Sat 08-Feb-25 08:13:32

Good morning from a dull, rainy NE.
Yesterday's lunch out was disappointing, service was poor. It felt as though there was an invisibility cloak around the table. First time I have never left a tip.
DS and GD are visiting today and taking me shopping. We will have lunch and dinner together and the usual musical evening.
Have a good weekend.

Sar53 Sat 08-Feb-25 08:12:08

Good morning from a very wet Essex coast.
I had a very unsatisfactory visit to the doctors yesterday. I recently had some blood tests done and the surgery got in touch to say the doctor wanted to see me. Even I could see that one of the readings wasn't good and there was talk of seeing a specialist.
When I got there he asked what could he do for me. I told him I had been asked to come in because of the results.
He told me they were fine. He took my blood pressure twice, it was high both times, told me to take it at home and he would see me in a month.
I felt a bit let down by his attitude and dismissal.
No real plans here for the weekend apart from watching rugby and football.
I hope you all have a good day and the rains stops at some stage, best wishes to all xx

Taichinan Sat 08-Feb-25 08:10:15

Good morning all! It's grey, damp and cold on the Angus coast but I don't care! I had 7 hours of unbroken sleep last night and I don't know when I last had that. I see that some others on here also slept unusually well - something in the air perhaps?
Roses could you not make an appointment to see your doctor yourself and talk about your DH's behaviour? Something does sound 'not right'. Good luck flowers
It was lovely to see my friends over lunch yesterday, but 'see' them was all I could do. The place was particularly noisy and echoey and I literally couldn't here a word that was said! Oh well, I don't have the aches and pains of old age (🤞) so I shouldn't complain. I enjoy my own company too - at least I can hear me!
A quiet weekend here is on the cards with bits and bobs to see to when and as I please. Enjoy yours everybody - and Mick enjoy that recliner!

madeleine45 Sat 08-Feb-25 08:05:23

Good Morning Mick and all GN'S
It is cold and clear here in north yorkshire, not a breath of wind, the tree outlined against the slowly lightening sky, but I know it will be cold out as feel the cold coming in through the windows as I opened the curtains. Well today, I am in a better place, so no ranting!! I have calmed down somewhat, and although yet again not a good nights sleep, I feel mentally better and am planning a quiet but pleasant day.

I am writing this just before venturing out, so got the thermals on and will have the hi viz coat, ready to mount the yellow peril. My plan (dont know if it will work!) is to firstly go and make sure of my Yorkshire Post from the newsagent, and then onto the market to get one or two bits and pieces and hopefully I shall treat myself to a small amount of the new rhubarb, which you may know the triangle near wakefield is famous for growing. That first rhubarb served up with either custard or evaporated milk swirled round the top of it, is not only lovely to eat, but brings back many memories. My father grew rhubarb and so of course it was on the menu at home and school dinners had it in crumble as I remember. Besides enjoying eating it , I am always reminded of old friends and family and it usually triggers me writing or emailing someone I have thought about.

So after that shopping I am slightly nervous but am going to travel further than I have up til now on the buggy. We have a new pop up repair clinic at a place on the Yafforth road which is a bit further out on the road to Richmond. As I am yorkshire , and a great mend and make do, but not particularly good with things like sewing - I can always see what needs doing but dont think much of my own efforts to accomplish it, I am all for this sort of thing. We have had several in the district but this is the first local one for me. So I shall look and see if I have anything to take but this is really just to encourage them to continue etc. The volunteers are of course expert in their own field , and so you will have an electrical person, and perhaps someone who is skilled at making good repairs on loved vases or whatever, plus the sewing and woodwork sort of thing. You show your item to the receptionist and they then direct you to whoever is most likely to be able to help. Then discuss it with them and agree what can be done and how much it will cost, or at the worst they tell you the bad news that it is irrepairable, but sometimes they can get bits from your dud one to mend another one so it still is helpful to take it . So, it is all good news.

It is being held in a home for disabled people. This way, they have coffee and cakes etc and we can buy those and the money goes to the home, mix with residents, which also givens them some new faces to meet and talk to , and meet people with all sorts of skills and make new friends. So it is all positive and whatever happens we can all feel cheered by our efforts to stop stuff going to the tip.

Actually today, already feeling quite good as I had collected up bags for recycle and clothes not worth mending or giving away but can be put into a sort of material collection and it is then all shredded and then recycled so was able to get several bags taken away and now can see a bit of space, which at last makes me feel I am getting somewhere.

So after that I shall return home, complete with paper etc and have enough left of my chicken curry so no need to stand up cooking and hurray the rugby will be on, so I shall be happy sitting here , cheering or shouting at the tv , and of course singing the anthems etc. It will all help me to keep my mind off the hospital visit on thursday. So from a calm and happier person, who fingers crossed, will go travelling far and wide to the great Limpopo river ( river Swale actually) venturing out to find the repair place, I hope all your travelling and trips go well today everyone, and I can just imagine you Mick arriving home from your trip to sink into the luxury of your new chair. (have you got anyone to stand by and fan you too ?) Enjoy your day folks

Good morning all from a cloudy Glasgow, where it is 1°C.

Good to see you back, Pants.

Roses,💐

We spent a lovely day with our DD and SIL. After lunch, we took an uber up to their village pub for a few hours.
Getting home was a nightmare. We decided to get the bus back , as it stops very close to our house. It was showing on the electronic board until the very last minute. The next bus ran past, without stopping 🤬, so we decided to get a bus down into the town and change buses. The bus, we were waiting for in town also disappeared from the board at the last minute. We eventually caught a bus, which was actually the next one from DD's village. We should have stayed in the pub. The village is so much colder than here, I felt so unwell when I got home and ended up in bed early.

Today, I need to finish off the sewing jobs for church, update the parish website and open up for Vigil Mass. I would love a day doing nothing.

A virtual hug for our friends, who are struggling. 💐It is sometimes difficult to read of other's happy experiences, when we are struggling and unable to do little.

Enjoy your day, whether busy or not.

luluaugust Sat 08-Feb-25 07:56:49

Good morning from a damp W Kent. A visit to the farm shop first thing for veg and eggs, a fairly quiet day and then out this evening with DD2 and family for DGS5’s birthday meal. He had friends over last weekend so he has got the oldies this one, just hope we can stay awake. The restaurant is always very noisy particularly on Saturday night, not great for the hard of hearing but we will do our best.
R&L please have another go with the Dr for your own sake.
Best wishes
