There are obviously at least as young as 14 as there's a photo of a 14 year year old being released... as the Time article shows.

The deal, which was brokered by Qatar and Egypt and took place across six exchanges, raised questions about why so many children were being held in Israeli prisons. The reality is that the most common charge against children is throwing stones.

An estimated 10,000 Palestinian children have been held in military detention over the past 20 years, with Save the Children noting that they are “the only children in the world who are systematically prosecuted in military courts.”

Of course, many haven't made it to the courts yet.

Hamas has no pity for the suffering if Gaza’s deliberately used hospitals and schools as military base, they dont care how many are killed in their crusade to destroy Israel.

As for 16 yr old children being imprisoned, a child of that age is just a deadly as an adult with a weapon - as we are finding out in our own schools in the UK and certainly the US.

We don't know if all the released Palestinians are criminals JenniferEccles. Some have never been convicted of a crime, some were children when incarcerated and still children when released.

It’s still worth it anyway to have these innocent hostages back home.

Seeing the latest hostages released looking so gaunt and ill was heartbreaking.
So was hearing that Eli Sharabi was looking forward to being reunited with his wife and daughters, all slaughtered by Hamas terrorists. A bitter-sweet moment for his parents-in-law in Wales.

I have wondered this too.
It’s all so unfair, isn’t it? The released Palestinians are all criminals, some serving life sentences, whereas of course the Israeli hostages are innocent citizens.

Netanyahu must hate having to do this, but if it’s the only way to get the hostages back, then so be it.

Once they are all released though, he can decide on his next move.

It’s still worth it anyway to have these innocent hostages back home.

Can anyone explain why the huge discrepancy in numbers? The current ceasefire has been in place since January 19 - and has seen 13 Israeli and five Thai hostages exchanged for 583 Palestinian prisoners and detainees.

I don’t understand it.

Simply cos hamas can get away with asking for this in exchange for hostages..

Thank goodness there are people prepared to advocate for them and support them best they can. Foreign journalists, including British ones, are not allowed!

More than 700 arrests of children have been documented by the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society since October 7. Currently, 250 of them remain in Israeli detention.

“This number, especially compared to previous periods, is very high,” said Amani Sarahneh, spokesperson for the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society.

Sarahneh added that children are abused and tortured the same way adult Palestinian prisoners are.

“A Palestinian child will likely experience every abuse tactic you can think of,” she said, adding that Israeli forces have used them on Palestinian children for many years.

Palestinian detainees are beaten, exposed to the cold for prolonged periods, and deprived of food, sleep, water and medical attention, a report by the UN Human Rights Office last month revealed.

Not longer ago, when some of us mentionned that so many Palestinian prisoners were just children, we were told that 16 year old are men! So which is it? Or is it different for some. Like Palestinians are men younger than Israelis?
