Can anyone explain why the huge discrepancy in numbers? The current ceasefire has been in place since January 19 - and has seen 13 Israeli and five Thai hostages exchanged for 583 Palestinian prisoners and detainees.

I don’t understand it.

Yes they are terrorists but for some freedom fighters , been
spoken of with Nelson Mandela

maddyone Mon 10-Feb-25 10:57:24

Allira

And some on GN call Hamas freedom fighters?

They are terrorists, nothing more, nothing less. Just brutal, inhumane terrorists. That much is obvious from the way they treat their own population, depriving them of shelter, food, and medicine. Most of the millions given in aid over many years siphoned off to build tunnels, miles and miles of them, and to arm themselves with guns and rockets.

Anniebach Mon 10-Feb-25 10:52:29

Yes Allira Hamas are freedom fighters protecting fellow Palestinians from a fate worse, far worse than the Holocaust

It’s cruel brutal behaviour as it was on 7/10. I understand why people say no chance of peace unless Hamas eradicated but I return to how ?

I wish I had an answer Iam, but I’m beyond knowing what the solution to all this can be. The whole scenario is beyond horrific.

They made the hostage stand on their stage and speak of his wife and two daughters, they had burned them alive 2023 , poor persecuted Palestinian Hamas , how the crowds cheered

The three hostages released on Saturday have spoken out, saying that they were tortured during their incarceration in Gaza. They say they were beaten, hung upside down by their feet, starved (we can see that) sometimes receiving no food for as long as three days, or water for one day, and kept in solitary confinement for periods of time. They wore no shoes for the whole of their confinement.

Reported in The Daily Mail last night.

Thank you Maddy

Good Annie, I’m glad you were/are okay.

Anniebach Sun 09-Feb-25 23:01:36

Didn’t bother me. Perhaps an insult from someone I respect would

maddyone Sun 09-Feb-25 22:53:09

I think that insult was something anyone would remember

Yes, it is.
People have a tendency to remember when they are insulted.

I was told in January , in this forum , i had twisted thinking,
didn’t work then, will not now
You don’t have twisted thinking😄 you are far too single minded.

I admire your ability to remember everything said to you! I can’t remember what was said an hour ago😊😊

I think that insult was something anyone would remember.

It's not funny nor true.

Thank you Allira

It is not genocide, Hamas wants to wipe Jews from the planet, this is a definition of genocide,

Claremont Sun 09-Feb-25 22:17:38

no

Rula Sun 09-Feb-25 22:04:54

Do you not think that is this was a genocide there would have been many more deaths?

Has the definition of genocide changed?

Claremont Sun 09-Feb-25 22:04:20

So please, tell me what should happen now if a Two State soltuion is no longer possible now.

Just hate, and more hate, double hate, treble hate, and just keep multiplying hate, until it is all over, for them and the others and all of us.

Claremont Sun 09-Feb-25 22:02:26

So you agree with Trump. Finish the genocide, good and proper, until every one has been bombed to smithereens, children mostly, as they could be the future. And you think the world will stand by and applaud.

So where, but where, do we go from here. What is supposed to be done if not the above.

If this is what they are planning and I believe it is- then what? They will take us all down with them- as the world will be split right down the middle as it has never been before.

I have no link to Palestine, and no link to Israel or Jews, apart from a few friends who are totally opposed to Netanyahu and have moved away, because they could see what he was planning, for a very long time (remember the video of him talking about severe and repeated attacks on Gaza, in 2001). They feel just like Margoyles- but they are very intelligent, Hebrew and Jewish history specialists.

maddyone Sun 09-Feb-25 21:44:28

I used to think that a two state solution would work, but I don’t think that any longer.

Claremont Sun 09-Feb-25 21:40:04

There will be no peace whilst Hamas exist.
It’s a horrible thought but true.

So there we go, just as he said

We do to them what they do to us, and they do to us what we do to them. This is a circle of horror, injury and murder that never ends and most of my people, the group to which I belong, go and become sick and cruel, crazy, and revengeful, and forget their truth of themselves until we are completely confused and become them

and they will take us all down with them, it seems.

David49 Sun 09-Feb-25 21:02:31

OK how is peace going to be made with them controlling
Gaza

Iam64 Sun 09-Feb-25 20:53:10

Ok so how is Hamas to be removed

David49 Sun 09-Feb-25 20:21:39

Does anyone have a solution, other than the hope diplomacy, compromise and commitment from both ‘sides’ here ? Not the trump solution obviously
In mentioning the Good Friday Agreement, I wasn’t making a simple comparison between Hamas, 7/10 and the murderous activities of republicans and loyalist terrorists. I was raising a long standing dispute between people sharing a small area of land. The NI Catholics had legitimate complaints about inequality eg not a single Catholic employed in some jobs (RUC for example), housing another real issue. I’m not making direct comparisons of course but suggesting compromise and diplomacy is more likely to help in Palestine Israel than bombing

There is no solution while Hamas rules Gaza, so don’t expect any rebuilding. When they are removed by whatever means and security established there will be hope.
