Now my mind has gone completely blank and all I think of are those I loathe, haha, so here are they!

Jim Bowen
Ernie Wise
Charlie Drake

Bob Mortimer is hilarious
Definately not Jimmy Carr/ Ricky Gervais - who are classed as comedians -why???

Indigo8 Wed 12-Feb-25 12:25:16

sodapop 'Comedians' who rely on searing and smut to get a laugh.

If handled cleverly, I think swearing and smut can be funny but if not, we get into the desperately unfunny acts like Jim Davidson and his ilk.

Sunil Patel is hilarious in a series being broadcast at the moment called An idiots guide to bagging an heiress,, It is on BBC Sounds

BlueBelle, Shapi Korsandi does have ADHD; I saw her speak of it on tv. She spoke of her difficulties managing money, due to her ADHD. I think she’s fantastic.

Love:
Billy Connolly
Eddie Izard

I’ve seen the first two live and they are hilarious. I saw BC at the Sydney Opera House and he was so funny I got a tummy ache.

Don’t like:
I can’t think of any as if I don’t like them fairly quickly, I don’t watch!

Love Stephen K Amos. He's such a nice bloke as well.
Michael McIntyre is funny.
Jasper Carrott. Saw him live decades ago and read that he's touring again.

My daughter and I saw Michael McIntyre at the Bristol Hippodrome and we were aching from laughing...
I like Peter Kaye and his funny northern humour, 'me biscuit's fallen in me brew!'

JPB123 Tue 11-Feb-25 19:24:21

My Dad……he was hilarious! Not a swear word or smut in sight

Nobody has mentioned Tony Hancock. Although he was before my time my husband and I love him. We still listen to his radio shows and watch his TV shows. We also enjoy Round The Horne - especially Julian and Sandy, and I think they were on before I was even born!

Cateq Tue 11-Feb-25 14:39:21

I love Billy Connelly
Dave Allen
John Bishop
Mike and Bernie Winters especially when they had the dog with them

My gran who was very prim and proper loved Billy Connelly and mentioned this to my aunt who lived in Australia. My aunt and uncle went to see him perform in Brisbane and once he started swearing my uncle stood up and objected to his bad language. My uncle was upset that my gran thought him suitable entertainment. Gran had the last laugh as Billy mentioned this during one of his shows.

The ones I dislike are:
Spike Milligan
Matt Lucas and David Williams
Bernard Matthew’s
Jim Davidson
Kenny Everett

I found a recording of a Cornish stand up called Mrs Rosewarne. She was an old lady who had come to stand up late in life and she had a lovely Cornish accent. She was absolutely hilarious.

Victoria Woods Ballad of Freda and Barry is my absolute favourite

Did you listen to Sarah Cox this afternoon by any chance?

It really cheered up my drive home, in the dark and the rain, from quite an emotional carer learning session.

Yes, it really cheered me up.

Cossy Tue 11-Feb-25 10:29:02

Thanks for joining in and many of you have reminded me of some more of my favourites, so thank you smile flowers

Rather odd to loathe Ernie Wise, Cossy. Given that he was an essential part of a double act with Eric Morecambe whom you've cited as one of your favourites. I don't think either of them ever did comedy routines on their own anyway, although I could be wrong. Do you mean you loathed him as a person?

I just didn’t think he was funny, yes of course he was an integral part of the duo but he rather left me cold, no real reason.

But yes, you’re right, it’s very odd 😂😂
