Good morning all from another dull day in the Black country.
We are off to the theatre today to the Bat out of hell musical, we have chosen the matinee performance rather than venturing out on a cold evening. We shall have meal afterwards.
Enjoy your day everyone whatever your plans ☀️

Jaxjacky Wed 12-Feb-25 08:25:37

Morning, dull and grey skies, but dry.
Lots of medical doings on here today, I hope all appointments go well.
That’s a flipping nuisance Ash, pleased you’re feeling better Kalu
I’m trying out a tai chi class this afternoon, it’s free for the first month, I hope the hall isn’t too chilly.
I’m also ringing another registry office, trying to book a date for my son's wedding, the LA online system could do with improvements.

Good morning Mick and all GN's on a cold damp north yorkshire morning but at least have a bit of daylight by now to look out.

Very still but miserable looking and as I know I have to go out this morning , must find practical trousers to go on the yellow peril. I have a big bright yellow coat, which is waterproof, and clear for everyone to see and very warm too. Does nothing on the fashion front and adds a couple of stone on me by the looks of it, but as I was given it and it cost "nowt" and does the job I am happy to wear it. However rather stuck about what to wear with it at the moment. If I am going out shopping, not long in the shops, I wear my thermal leggings under a normal pair of trousers which works well and keep quite warm etc. However they are not waterproof and havent yet worked out the best option. I have seen some waterproof trousers with warm insides ,very cheap in a sale, but they would be too warm to wear if I go to a meeting., or would have to think of other trousers and availability of place to change. Cant see any sort of waterproof apron type thing that could just go over me, and as fingers crossed, when the cataracts are done I hope to be back driving dont want to spend a fortune . Ah well something will turn up.

I was awake by about 4.30am, but not in so much pain, so am grateful for that. Tried to go back to sleep and read a bit, but gave up and got up and have been able to catch up with lots of bits and pieces I had not been able to deal with yesterday. Had a small tear in buggy cover which managed to absolutely rip all up the back , so today fingers crossed, I will be getting a new cover. Dont like Amazon, and am very wary of putting my financial details on anywhere, especially just at the moment, as just switching banks , so a friend who has an account with them is ordering it and it should come today.

Had an enjoyable evening yesterday, went to this games group held in a local pub. It is all sorts of games but not cards or monopoly. They are all very welcoming and I enjoy the chance to use my brain working things out. Some are very complicated and others you can get the general idea quite quickly. We played one where you have roads, cities, monastries etc and you put tiles into the general layout, looking to see that you wont get your player killed off etc. Got the main drift but what I really like is that it plays to my strengths , which are also my problems, as I am used to looking about three steps ahead, of if I do this , then that, but this will then happen. A chess or bridge sort of game and I did rather well coming second, and the man who won, asked me if I was sure I hadnt played it before!! That was quite cheering as of course I was bottom of the pile for all the other various games.

So , that was an uplifting evening and today I am going to get off soon to try and carry on a good streak. I need a few veg from the market, but most important need to go back to the bank and get this flipping phone number/ card access sorted out so that I can just use my new card and not have all the hassle I have been having.

Then there is a young disabled man, who I see at various group things and have agreed to meet him for coffee in Cafe Nero this morning, which is a treat he enjoys. He is a very cheerful person and for some reason he seems to have rather taken to me, and we enjoy having a chat together and sometimes share in activities at the group. The last couple of times he has suggested having coffee together I have had appointments and drs things and he was disappointed so I am glad that we can meet up today. Then fingers crossed that my friend will get the said cover and collect that.

In the afternoon, it is a bit more paperwork sorting and make sure all the recycling stuff is out for the bin men tomorrow , and then going to try and contact the plumber and the floor people and at least get some sort of date or timetable for the stuff to be finished. Need to organise something for an early meal tonight as I need to be ready by about 6.10pm as I am being kindly given a lift to go to the whist drive. Grateful for the lift, or wouldnt be able to go tonight, and I always feel if you are being given a lift you should be ready promptly as soon as they arrive.

All of which should help me to spend as little time as possible worrying about the eye appointment tomorrow. Oh well I am actually already a bit calmer now as once it becomes inevitable I seem to cope a bit better. I liken it to the idea of being caught in a trap, where you keep running round trying to get out and away, but use up a lot of energy and finally you just become resigned to it and sit down and it costs you a lot less mental energy.

Well hoping that the day goes well for everyone and who knows after the first lot of rain the day might improve (do I see pigs flying overhead?!!) Take care in the wet and hope you can all enjoy your day

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where it’s damp out. Alexa tells me it’s 3°C. Overcast with showers and a high of 5°C. Not much on the books today. Our lovely neighbours are home tonight from a long holiday, I’ve missed them. It’ll be nice to have them back. I plan to watch L’il Miss at her swimming lesson later.

Liberty Wed 12-Feb-25 08:08:48

Good morning from what has become for now a damp dull Suffolk.

We are off tomorrow morning to Southampton to start our cruise so today will be a day of sorting out what to pack and then doing it. The friend I met yesterday said she starts packing gradually several days before her holiday starts, just in case she forgets something.

We have always been more cavalier and do it the afternoon/ evening before.Apart from passports and cash/bank cards. I’ve always taken the view that if we forget anything essential we can always replace it locally.

I usually have a digital detox when on holiday but I will try and send some photos of blue skies and sun to cheer up these gloomy February days.

I hope that all have the best day possible today especially those unwell or with worries about others.

Sar53 Wed 12-Feb-25 08:07:20

Good morning from another dreary, dull day on the Essex coast.
Thank you for all your good wishes for my DGD. She wants to go back to school today but we shall see how she is this morning. She is in the middle of her mock GCSE'S so the timing couldn't be worse.
Our committee meeting last night went well, no arguments !!.
Today I have admin and ironing to be getting on with.
Thinking of all with worries to contend with. Best wishes xx

Gingster Wed 12-Feb-25 08:06:14

Good morning all .

The dog has the groomers first thing and then I’m off for a hospital appointment for my eyes. The last test was 18 months ago and they said ‘we’ll see you in 4 months’. I phoned last week and got an appointment for today.

I will go on the bus as the parking is impossible. Dh would take me and pick up but the bus is so easy - Almost door to door.

Take care 🌱

Good morning from a damp W Kent. Yesterday’s U3A talk was on the 1987 Great Storm given by an 85 year old without notes or any other aids and was very entertaining. I was not sure I wanted to go as I was very unwell at that time but glad I did.
Today tea and chat with a friend, she has had her sister to visit so lots to catch up on
Best wishes

Kalu Wed 12-Feb-25 07:55:32

Good morning all. 3deg and mostly cloudy today in Glasgow.

Feeling back on track again this morning thankfully. Waitrose this morning and I am looking forward to meeting up with another GN friend, TopsyIrene for coffee before shopping. There are a few of us Glasgow Grannies who live not too far from one another making it easier to have a face to face catch up.

Hope all goes well for your DH today PG
Sorry to hear your leg is causing a problem again Ash

Best wishes to all for a pleasant day.

brook2704 Wed 12-Feb-25 07:50:49

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s a chilly 1° and cloudy
Hope all goes well with your DHs appointment today Pantglas
I’m going to the gym again this morning then I’ll walk back into town by the river. It’s still too cold with frozen ground to do much gardening so that will have to wait. Then I’m looking forward to doing the school pick up later, seeing their happy little faces (hopefully!) and then taking them home
Ash hope things improve a bit soon
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Good morning all from a very excited granny here on the east coast of Fife. Yes it’s nearly flying time, I’m all ready to jet off to Tenerife on Friday, got my euros my passport, a hand held fan, British or should I say Scottish money at the ready. It’s all go in this house, I’ve even got a new social worker who’s coming to see me on my return to assess me for next years direct payments

Enjoy today my friends, , life can be so good ( for most of us) 👍👍

Grandmabatty Wed 12-Feb-25 07:49:39

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 3° and wet. Like many of you, I'm sick of dreary weather. The last few days have been so cold and wet. Pantglas I hope there's nothing untoward with your DH. Ash poor you. That sounds awful. Bellasnana your boys have a great imagination!
Yesterday was a good day. It started off with tears though from dgs2 because dgs1 had skelped him. "He was annoying me grandma!" However things settled down quickly and they both were delivered to school/nursery peacefully. I did some housework before meeting my art friends for lunch. Lunch was in a local furniture shop which has a fabulous café. It's so popular, you have to book a table! We had a lovely chat for a couple of hours before I left to pick up the boys. Fortunately they were both in good moods and were dropped off at home without incident.
Today I woke, having had a good night sleep. I have a small ironing to do and some mince to cook in the slow cooker. I keep putting it off. This afternoon I will be at the school library. Have a good day all.

Redcar Wed 12-Feb-25 07:41:42

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s light, cold and dry. Still cloudy, but a bit lighter cloud than of late.
Yesterday I was at DD1’s, keeping the dog company while DDH and her DH were both in the office. The dog had a cold, muddy walk with her dog walker at lunchtime, then DD2 called in for a little while. But generally a restful day, fortunately as my back was very painful. I’ll potter around at home today because my back still aches.
ash I hope your hip improves soon, and that the new treatment on your knee helps with the pain.
gg13 I hope you’re in less pain today and that the bed changing goes well!
pg I hope that your DH’s X-ray doesn’t show anything serious.
Have the best day possible everyone.

Ladyleftfieldlover Wed 12-Feb-25 07:32:55

Morning all from West Oxfordshire.

I had a nice chat with my brother in Australia yesterday. He was trying to persuade me to stay with him at his place rather than a hotel. He has any number of pythons … then this morning my sister has been in touch to say it was quite safe! Mmm.

I may drive to Oxford today. I used to enjoy having a shopping day but the major road into Oxford for us has been closed for nearly two years and due to delays will not open before autumn 2026.

Have a good day all of you.

Greyduster Wed 12-Feb-25 07:28:51

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. Dreary and damp in South Yorkshire today. The drive over to the restaurant last night was pretty hairy - rain and unlit country roads are not a winning combination in my book, but the food was wonderful and the birthday boy enjoyed himself. We came back here for cake and some very good champagne, which his dad showed him how to uncork, before they went off home.
Writers group at the library for me today. I was trying to run quite a long essay off on my printer yesterday and for some reason it wouldn’t do it. I air dropped it to my son in law’s phone while they were here and it printed okay, so whatever it is, it’s not the printer. Every time my phone updates, I seem to have a problem with something or other. I suppose I shall have to reinstall the printer software😩.
Have the best day you can, folks.

Georgesgran Wed 12-Feb-25 07:26:19

Good Morning from Durham. Grey and cold yet again, but no rain expected- allegedly. I didn’t get into the loft yesterday, as it’s over the garage and was just too cold.
I’m meeting a friend for coffee this morning, then off to collect DD2’s Little Dog and her laundry later. I’ve dressing up outfits to drop off with DD1, which she wants to donate to a local charity.

Best wishes to all. X

Good morning from s somerset, dull and cold today

I am building two more (small) raised beds this morning, everything is ready in my car and a good meal is out of the freezer as I try not to cook when I get back. I took my new comfy chair to the plot yesterday and I think I will buy another as I am making friends rapidly. I met someone else by the wood chip pile yesterday, a very nice gentleman

Have a good day

Oopsadaisy1 Wed 12-Feb-25 07:20:21

Good morning from a dark West Oxfordshire at MissOops house.
Yesterday went well after all, we had a plan B, which meant that MrOops filled in a load of forms and emailed them to MzOops, so we didn’t need to go into the bank after all.
Gutter cleaning here today, so will have to get up in a bit, not sure what the dog will make of it so we might have to take her out.
We had a nice walk around the nearby reservoir yesterday it’s absolutely enormous, , there were some old chaps there with their remote controlled sailing yachts, they told us off for having the dog in that particular area. No real yachts were out but it must be a lovely place to be In the Summer.
The official dog walk was too long for MissOops poor feet and it started to drizzle so we bought some cake and drive back .
She lit the log burner when we got home and we all promptly fell asleep whilst watching Miss Austen on the TV. I’m useless with a real fire, sends me to sleep every time.
Better get up before the chap arrives, when he has gone MrOops will come over to get me to go home.
He had a good day with the Nephew yesterday and will now need to contact our Solicitor as his Landlord now wants him to be a lodger instead of a Tenant and convert his Tenancy agreement- not going to happen - but we need to see what his legal options are. More stress that Nephew is unable to deal with.

Have a good day everyone, let’s hope it’s a bit warmer and dryer today.

NannyJan53 Wed 12-Feb-25 07:01:51

Good morning from yet another dull, dank and cold Black Country.

Doctor appointment at 8.30, so need to leave the house at 8.00 as I will walk there. Hence up so early.

No real plans today, and did the ironing yesterday so go with the flow.

Meal out tonight with my walking ladies 'Supper Club'. Going for an Indian meal. We meet every 2 months.

Wishing you all the best day possible.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 12-Feb-25 07:00:05

Morning all from a grey damp S E Essex.

The plan for this morning is to supervise DH when he changes the bedding, should be interesting.

The 10 yr old will be here after school for his sleepover, an early night I think as birthday celebrations are taking their toll, he is overtired and needs some downtime.

Take care folks 🙋‍♀️

kittylester Wed 12-Feb-25 06:59:47

Good morning all from a chilly, dark North Leicestershire.

Our cleaner is due at 9 and DH is off to the gym.

I still have a dreadful cough so will need to ring the hospital to see whether I can keep my appointment. I should probably do a Covid test.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Ashcombe Wed 12-Feb-25 06:59:23

Good morning everyone from a chilly but dry Torbay.

Yesterday was bleak, both the weather and me! On Monday evening I had a recurrence of being unable to weight bear on my “good” leg, which took me to hospital in early December. I think it was caused at the X-ray department in the afternoon when I was required to squat slightly for a picture of my knee to be taken. Something felt very wrong with my hip, which was replaced in 2017.

Anyway, a day of resting seems to have helped so it is easing, I’m pleased to say. I’m also glad that DH is still here and has been wonderfully caring. Luckily, he’s a very capable cook (better than me!)

The consultation at the hospital has led to me being offered interim treatment for my arthritic knee consisting of genicular nerve radio frequency ablation, before I go on the surgical list.

Happy hump day, everyone! 🦩🥰🦩💐🦩

RosesandLilac Wed 12-Feb-25 06:11:28

Good morning, a dreary, damp and chilly start here, this incessant dismal weather is getting boring isn’t it?
I have the dentist first thing so off by 8 to get into town, I also need to get a few bits of shopping while I’m there.
Then I intend to do some botanical drawing when I get back.
A quiet day, suits me!
Hope you have a good day 🌹

Bellasnana Wed 12-Feb-25 05:53:35

Good morning from Malta where it feels cold and damp at present but the high is expected to reach 19°C later.

Thank you all so much for your lovely comments yesterday on the photo of the boys (especially Taichinan and GrannySomerset), you are all so kind. To me it was a happy photo really, indicating hope for the future and that life goes on, and our loved ones aren’t forgotten after they have left us.

We had a lovely day yesterday, lots of laughter and playing. I had the two of them playing hairdressers so I had my hair ‘cut’, combed and ‘blow dried’ using tools from their work bench! The drill became a hairdryer. I was impressed with their imagination actually!😂😂

Today they have nursery in the afternoon so getting them fed, nap taken and woken up in time to go with their other grandparents will be the order of the day.

I plan to pop to the shops later as I want to do a painting activity with them tomorrow. If it works, we will do lots of red handprints which I will cut out, stick a green pipe cleaner on each and make a bunch of Valentines Day ‘flowers’ for DD3. Sounds ok in theory doesn’t it!😅

I had the handyman round to fix my flushing in my en-suite yesterday but it seems it will be a bigger job than anticipated which is a nuisance.

Sar I hope your DGD is doing better today. Asthma is such a horrible illness, DD3 has been an acute asthmatic since the age of 12 and we have had some very worrying trips to hospital over the years. If it’s any consolation she’s a lot better these days and managed to produce twin boys with no problems, one of whom also suffers from asthma.

Sorry I’ve rambled on. Wishing you all a good day.☀️

cornergran Wed 12-Feb-25 05:52:31

Morning Mick, morning All. What I can see of our corner of Somerset looks damp and misty.

Committee meeting for me this morning, thankfully a friend is driving as the road to the location is dire. Must remember to set the slow cooker before I go for this evenings meal. After a quick lunch it will be into town with Mr C. I’ll wander while he is at the optician then as he’s convinced his prescription will have changed likely supervise the selection of new frames. It feels as if a restorative cuppa will be needed!

Hope the delivery doesn’t spoil your day mick

Have the best day you can everyone.
