NonGrannyMoll my DH fancies himself as an expert (he’s not!) and gets het up about the contestants’ choices/experts’ advice/ auctioneers failure to stir up higher bids etc.
I just sit and nod.

Good morning from the back of beyond (near the Welsh border). It's cold, grey and unfriendly outside, so I'm safe in the warmth of the cupboard I laughingly call my study. Got up at 11am, had my usual breakfast of coffee & 2 digestive biscuits, played a few levels of 'Traffic Escape' (my current addiction) and left DH watching 'Bargain Hunt' (he loves to growl at it). Oops, it's now afternoon....

Marydoll what a night! I have always thought that a good sleep can help a lot with any health situation but if you can’t get even that…. And for it to trigger more problems is truly frightening and frustrating. I hope your day improves.
I have yet another mental health assessment tomorrow. Since being referred by the doctor I have spoken to two people and completed three online questionnaires with a view to working out what sort of therapy might help. I followed a link that they sent me and downloaded an app called WYSA. It was a chatbot! I’m too old and too fragile to talk to AI! I deleted it! I’m constantly on the edge of tears. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.
Trip out this afternoon to pick up my resized engagement ring. My Christmas/70th birthday present isn’t ready yet. DH bought me an eternity ring - after 33 years married! It was being made for me, and the jewellers were on holiday for Chinese New Year. DH is doing a beef stir fry tonight - his specialty.
Hope you all have a good day. It’s clouding over here in Ashford in Kent!

The cling film worked, yippee.

Which means I can now have my morning shower as per normal, I just do not feel properly clean and fresh with a flannel wash.

V & F are running DH ragged. They have built a den in the playroom along with a camp over their beds. Not saying I am grateful for being unable to run after them, but…

DH has just booked a table for dinner later at the local Tapas restaurant, there are plenty of things on the menu that the two little ones will eat. I am also going to be a good granny and let them take their iPads 🤪

Late on parade!

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where again it’s dry and cold. 5°C again.

We’re just back up from having delicious fried breakfasts downstairs in the Loungers Bar with the family. My goodness our Boy Wonder is getting tall. He can certainly put his food away (with extra sides too). Half term next week. Mum’s a teacher so I’m not needed. Doubtless I’ll see L’il Miss at some stage!

We’re both settled now to read the newspapers on line, radio on in the background. And in four hours we’re off out to eat again (#lazygran) with my stepfather! Nice.

Hope Sunday is kind to us all. x

"Michelin Woman prepares to do tai chi" would be the headline! As you can see, we did our tai chi on the beach yesterday morning with 13 turning up - I genuinely did not expect anyone at all, so it was all bonus. We all enjoyed it, and I think we'll name ourselves 'The Wild Tai Chiers' from now on 😉. Tea and sticky buns in the Pavilion afterwards was also greatly enjoyed. Of course.
Anyway, good morning all from the Angus coast where there's another grey day ahead - wetter and windier than yesterday. I have absolutely nothing planned for today, although I might just get out my recipe book and see if I have ingredients in for 'something different'.
Marydoll you're having quite a time of it just now flowers. Enjoy a quiet relaxing conservatory day - you deserve it.
Madeleine how lovely to see the squirrel. The wildlife seems to have decamped from this area just now - it's a case of "not a creature is moving, not even a mouse".
Liberty and Bonnybanko enjoy your holidays - I know you'd share some of your warmth and sunshine if it was possible
Kalu and whywhy hugs for you.
I have just watched the sun shining on a headland about 20 miles up the coast which is galvanising me into action ........ But it's gone now so maybe another cup of coffee .........
Enjoy your Happy Sundays everyone.

Good morning from another dull day here in the Black country.
No plans as yet but roast lamb for dinner my favourite.
Enjoy your day everyone whatever your plans, best wishes for anyone celebrating and safe travels those on the move.
Virtual hugs where needed ☀️

NannyJan53 Sun 16-Feb-25 09:49:26

Good morning from the Black Country, where there is no change to the weather!

No real plans today, a bit of housework, and maybe some baking, and read my book.

whywhywhy flowers not sure whereabouts in the Midlands you are, but every so often we have a GN meet up for coffee in Birmingham. You would be very welcome, so keep an eye out on the Meet Up Forum.

Wishing you all the best day possible

Ladyleftfieldlover Sun 16-Feb-25 09:35:54

Thank you everyone for all your bitten tongue suggestions!

whywhywhy Sun 16-Feb-25 09:32:48

Thank you all so much for your wonderful kind words. Thank you Madeline45

luluaugust Sun 16-Feb-25 09:17:39

Talking of mouth ulcers and bitten tongues I remember Rinstead tablets used to be the go to remedy. I think they are still around.

GrannySomerset Sun 16-Feb-25 09:15:09

Tantalising hints of sunshine this morning so I am hoping that we shall have a brighter day - about time! Church and the newspaper the highlights of today, and several telephone calls to make. Sorry you feel so rough, Marydoll, hope you feel better as the day wears on.

harrigran Sun 16-Feb-25 09:09:21

Good morning from a grey and damp NE yet again.
DS and GD came yesterday morning and we had an early lunch and then dropped GD off at the seafront to meet up with some of her schoolfriends.
They had a walk and then tea and cakes in a cafe before she returned to my house.
She spent the evening doing her homework and playing the piano.
DS brought his banjo but didn't get round to playing it, he spent hours trying to find accommodation in Scotland for whit week. I don't think he found what he wanted.
Won't be seeing them until Sunday next week when we go to a piano recital.
TV and crosswords today and maybe a glass of wine with my dinner.
Have a good day.

madeleine45 Sun 16-Feb-25 09:07:29

Marydoll, just read your post and send sympathies. It is a very scary thing and even when you wake up takes a while to settle down. Hope you are feeling a bit better now , and can rest and recuperate. It is good you have DH to be with you , but must have given him a shock at the time. Hope you have a better day now

BlueSapphire Sun 16-Feb-25 09:00:07

Good morning everyone from yet another grey damp day in Northampton. Heavy rain all day yesterday, but I didn't get too wet on my outing to the shops. Met an acquaintance from over the road at the bus stop so we travelled together and had a good natter.
Coffee and shopping done in M&S, and despite not needing anything new for my April cruise, my eye was taken by a lovely top in Next; they didn't have my size so had to order one, which I shall pick up tomorrow when I pick up my M&S order.

No plans for today apart from read my Sunday newspaper, and watch more catch-up tv; I have several good recorded programmes.

Roast gammon for dinner tonight, hoping there'll be enough left over tomorrow for ham, egg and chips, one of my favourite meals!
Yesterday's M&S steak was excellent, one of the best I've had.

Take it easy and have a good day.

madeleine45 Sun 16-Feb-25 08:58:27

Good moring Mick and all GN's on a cold damp looking morning here in North Yorkshire.

Am still tottering around in my dressinggown. Have had a horrible night and several bouts of horrible cramp, to add to the rubbish night. Feel exhausted from lack of sleep and somewhat miserable. Today there is a lovely garden open for snowdrops and they have even got it at a very low price to celebrate 400 years of the house, and with no car and no bus service close to the place, and too far to try and go on the yellow peril, cant even look forward to that. I have been slumming it in my dressing gown as I have put the
heater on in the bathroom and hoping that the wonders of a shower and getting warm will improve the day.

Missing the car a lot today, as the ability to just get out and go where I want always helps on a day like this. I would have gone to the garden and up to swaledale The car lets me pretend I am able to still do everything and it is rather claustrophobic when I cant drive and not up to walking far either. Oh well things surely must improve from this start.

So once I can actually get myself going, I shall as usual enjoy the desert island discs and private passions on the radio which will cheer me up and a bit later when hopefully the weather is a bit better, will venture out with the yellow peril down the town. The cover absolutely ripped to pieces and got the new one yesterday. Very good, perhaps a bit big, but of course arrived in a nice neat bag which zipped up. Can I get it back into the bag? Ha! you must be joking! So have to stuff it in as best as I can, but at least it is a cover.

Whywhywhy, I have every sympathy with you.Depression is a horrible thing, like a thick fog, which you cant even see which way to try and go. People do not understand either. Telling you about how lucky you are or how much worse other people is doesnt help at all and just adds to the misery.
When I had cancer and was coping with operation, chemo etc someone said to me they were amazed how well I was coping with it. When I said that it was easier than coping with depression she looked at me as though I was mad. But coping with a concrete thing, whilst it is tough, you can make plans, try out ways to cope with things and people are sympathetic and want to help. Being in the depth of depression can arrive without warning, and make no rhyme or reason when looking at your situation. So people can be very unsympathetic and not understand why. Well I have news for them, we dont understand why either!! The things I have learnt over the years that give a little help for me are, try not to feel guilty about it, - if you had measles you would not feel you were the one to blame so it is an illness just the same. I have learnt not to try and give myself a "treat" either . When y ou are not able to enjoy that much either it makes you feel worse! So I try to be very boring, just going on with basic things and the usual pattern, so not asking too much of myself. It is very tiring to try and cope with it whilst still struggling with every day things. Sometimes watching an old film which I remember my husband and I enjoying is quite good, as it reminds me that it will pass even if I cant say when.

So let us all have fingers crossed for some sunshine!! I think we all get a bit stir crazy as the winter just doesnt seem to be finishing and we are all longing to get out and about. What a shame our GN's in sunnier climes cannot send us a parcel back to share. Well I can see a little bit of breeze in the now visible tree and a rather fat pigeon walking round about under the tree looking for who knows what. May the day improve for everyone and ah I have just seen the squirrel rushing through the branches and a rather annoyed blackbird now sitting on the fence sort of flicking its feathers of its wings out at the squirrel. Shame it is only a grey squirrel but enjoy watching it. The day starts to get better!

GrannyGravy13 Sun 16-Feb-25 08:56:56

Oh dear Marydoll that sounds really scary, rest and let DH take care of you.

Gingster Sun 16-Feb-25 08:43:57

How frightening for you Mary. I hope you feel better soon. Take it easy 🙏

Gingster Sun 16-Feb-25 08:39:38

Good morning all and I won’t mention the weather 🥱.

Yesterday I watched Cassandra on Netflix. All I can say is ‘don’t bother’. Rubbish! Why I stuck it out I’ll never know!

Dh went to footie with ds1 and came home very cold and tired. He dozed most of the evening.
I made sausage rolls for todays family lunch and shopped for the 10,000. I expect it will all be eaten.

Sorry to hear you’re feeling down Sar and Why. 💐💐

Oh dear GG your injuries do sound bad! The children will brighten you up I’m sure and your dh will cope admirably 🤞.You just have to direct from the sofa 😅.

A moody sea-scape from your cabin Liberty. Lovely to look out on. I love watching the sea.🌊.

Must get in and prepare for the onslaught!
Have a good day.🌱

Morning, no respite from the grey blanket here down south either and chilly. We had some rain late yesterday afternoon, no sun, not helped by friends on an Australian jaunt sending pictures.
A walk today, but little pleasure in it, just a case of stretching the legs, chicken casserole for dinner.
Enjoy all your family meet ups over this half term week.
llfl salt water helped me last time I had a sore mouth.

Ladyleftfieldlover Sun 16-Feb-25 08:22:12

Marydoll

Good morning all from a cloudy Glasgow, where it is 2°C.

I woke my self up, screaming so loudly with a night terror, poor DH got the fright of his life. I thought my mother was standing beside my bed. It was awful, the pain in my head was so bad, I thought I was having a stroke. It also triggered an angina attack, the first in ages. I was quite terrified.
I have absolutely no idea what is going on with my health at the moment.

Llfl, an alternative to Corsodyl is Difflam. It is stronger and expensive. My dentist has previously prescribed it, but I was so desperate for some relief, I purchased a bottle the other day.
My ulcers are slowly healing, but I have a new one this morning. 😭

Bonny have a lovely holiday and best wishes to all who are struggling. No church for me today, I shall be withdrawing to the conservatory for the duration.

Thanks MD.

^I will make a start on packing for my Australia jaunt today. After lunch I’ll pop into the Pharmacy in the nearby town and ask them to recommend something for a bitten tongue which is still slightly sore^
I would recommend Corsodyl @ LLFL, hold a little in your mouth for maybe a minute (don’t swallow, it’s vile) or I believe they also make a gel to dab on. Brilliant for gum disease, ulcers and anything else oral.

Thank you!
