Scammers trying to get to me through this forum

I did notice that you had started a thread inviting Gransnetters to meet up with you on holiday but then the thread went so presumably you thought better of it, just as well.

We don't know who might be reading our posts, it's open to all so I do think we need to be careful.

Have you reported the message to GNHQ and blocked the sender?

Good for you, Bonnybanko. Scammers have many and varied ways of getting inside our heads. It's very sad that we have to be constantly questioning the motives of strangers, but that has become a necessity of life now, in ways we couldn't envisage even 20 years ago.

Do any others remember receiving PMs from some niceattractive man who would like to know me better.

Scammers are always with us, always have been.

Or another one who liked our ‘thoughtful’ responses to posts?

I had one once, not on GN, which began with “Hey there, pretty lady…..”

Must admit, for a brief moment, I felt quite flattered….

Yep....I've had one through from this direction too.

Fed-up to back teeth with scammers everywhere. With always having to evaluate emails (though, thankfully, most of the ones from thieves head through into my spam folder). Always having to be alert when I pick up the phone - in case it's a thief instead of a person iyswim.

It feels like one is always having to be on the alert for them and it never used to be this way.

Have bought a book recently that I'm due to read and people might be interested in it "How to beat scammers - the complete guide to keeping yourself from fraud" by Nick Stapleton. Looks like a good one at first glance - so will see what I learn from it about dealing with these would-be thieves.

Hope you've checked their spelling, grammar and level of "British reserve" first. That seems to be how they usually give themselves away - ie they get at least one of those things wrong.

I do remember what you wrote while you were on holiday, and whilst I’m sure the invitation was meant entirely innocently, it could, lets just say, have been interpreted entirely differently!!

I imagine someone pointed that out to you!
