Elastic waisted trousers

I wear them as I have small hips and a large waist. I can wear two sizes smaller and they fit me.

Can’t say I’ve ever heard of anyone with a ‘medical condition’ that makes them only wear elastic waistbands the only form of trousers/skirts they can wear!

I’ve just bought a couple of nice pairs and will disguise the waistband by adding belt loops when I shorten them and then I can add a trendy belt ……that will disguise the elastic around my waist and bring me nicely into a comfortable yet fashionable look!

Well, I do. I genuinely cannot wear anything with a fixed waistband or anything too tight (that includes bras - can only wear one for a short period of time), or it leaves me in agony. So consider yourself fortunate...

As long as they look nice I don’t mind although I doubt the elastic will last as long as buttons or a zip, if used gently

I feel same. However personal preference is what matters.

I feel sad that people are feeling they need to justify why they wear elastic waist trousers, mostly due to the extremely derogatory and belittling comment made by petra. This suggested elastic waist- wearing is something to be succumbed to. We'll I'm not making any excuses, I like elastic waist trousers! They are forgiving, comfy, occasionally smart, often casual and I defend my right to wear them whenever and wherever I choose, without someone sneering. I do have jeans & even smart, zip up trousers but I do prefer my elastic tops. So there!!

Barleyfields - thanks for your concern. I did see the GP when the bloating started and had a blood test to check for ovarian cancer, which came back negative.

The bloating is not massive, but enough to make me feel uncomfortable if my waist when wearing no-elastic waistbands is even slightly constricted. I have also gained a bit of weight in the abdominal area so it is no longer flat as it was pre-pregnancies.

I have noticed that other friends of my age have also increased in the "below the belt" area so maybe that's normal.

I shall find out later this year as I am going to start doing more exercises to tighten up that area.

Another vote for Robell trousers - very comfortable- flattering back seam - even my daughter complimented me on them. Lots of colours and some warmer ones with a fleecy lining- would recommend them.

I don’t want to alarm you Ramblingrose, but if I had the symptoms you describe I would see my doctor. Bloating especially.

I love elasticated trousers, and there are some and some regarding stylish or simply comfy and practical. I actually don't like the fact that with jeans especially, the thickness of the fabric where you do them up actually often shows through whatever you may wear on top so looks ugly

Harsh words from some people . There are reasons why many women are far more comfortable in elastic waists . However there are ways of smartening this style up by disguising the actual tucked in look or covering entirely.

Maybe because I never did any pelvic floor or abdominal exercises I have found that my waist and abdomen over the past 10 years have expanded and a lot of zip-fly trousers stopped fitting me.
I also seem to bloat out by the end of the day and can't stand anything constricting my waist. Comfort is all!
I therefore started buying a large selection of trousers with back-elastic waists, full flat elastic waists, drawstring waists, etc etc.. I hide them under tops/knitwear worn over my trousers that are long enough.
It is annoying, and I would give anything to have a flat abdomen again.

Actually they have improved a lot. Try places like Uniqlo for decent ones. Since lockdown many places even have tailored elasticated waist trousers - even for men's suits.

Don’t see the problem with stretchy waistbands as long as they have a top covering them. Not flattering to show elastic.

I think all elastic-waisted pants are not the same. Some are nicer than others.

I have a few pairs that I like a lot. They're comfortable and have more "give" than zipper pants.

I generally don't care for the elasticized waist showing, though. I guess to me it just looks cheap or something. Which (aha!) might be the whole reason behind the sneering in the first place, if the elastic waist pants tend to be less expensive than the zipper type. Simple snobbery? Just a thought. But I do prefer to wear a longer top with elastic waist pants.

I have been wearing them for years even my jeans are stretch material with no zip, I’m of an age when comfort comes first and I certainly don’t want to be out for a meal with a tight waistband

My worry is they are too easy and it’s a slippery slope to wearing trousers that fit. And the extra inches won’t be noticed

I wear leggings under my jeans or skirts in the winter to keep warm when going outside, but I do not like trousers with elasticated waists, as I have always felt dowdy if I wore them.

Now they are probably like track suits out of the question for me, as I doubt they can be found in pure cotton, and I am so allergic to polyester that I get rheumatic like pains if I wear anything made even partly with polyester.

Lifeline for me at the mo because I have a broken wrist🫤 M&S are smart and comfy
