If you’ve ever had to fight off a dog that’s trying to kill your on lead dog you wouldn’t have the greatest opinion of some dangerous dogs or their irresponsible owners. My partner still panics when a strange dog runs towards us.

I was not talking about those dreadful owners - again, not the dogs' fault. That would have an horrendous experience for you and your poor dog. I'm not surprised your partner is still affected. I hope they recover their trust.

Secondly, the vehement hatred of dogs, just because, is very saddening.

Another ‘poor dog’ killed a 19 year old woman in Bristol last night Colls I hope it was shot.

Colls Maybe people who wish to enjoy walks, coffee, playing with children, want to do just that. No be bothered by selfish dog owners refusing to let them!

Enjoying a coffee in Starbucks with a friend yesterday. A regular woman came in with her dog. She had it on n extendable lead. She allowed it to wander all over the cafe and bother people. I told it to go away, adding if I wanted a dog I would get one.' The woman heard and so did others in the cafe. Hopefully she learnt her lesson.

It seems so many people have bought dogs during Covid times and soon after with little thought of training them, or managing when they went back to work. So many untrained animals and I don’t recall so many dog walkers pre covid, particularly with multiple groups of animals.
Laws on pre requisites before acquiring a dog would be ideal, but the resources for enforcement are very unlikely to materialise

We went to a local nature reserve just last weekend. There's geese, ducks and other water fowl on the lake, clearly pairing and obviously nesting ready for the breeding season. It truly is a lovely area.

Loads of people had dogs off lead and thought it was hysterically funny for them to enter the water and chase the birds - even those dogs on extendable leads were not controlled correctly!

Why are people so bloody stupid and inconsiderate? I also object to dogs approaching me and jumping up leaving muddy paw marks on my clothing - the owners get rather upset when I I tell them that I do not welcome their dogs and to get the animal under control. They might think their little pooch is the best fur baby in the park - I disagree.......It is a bloody nuisance.

Where I live there is a 'dog trainer' and I use that word loosely, who I had to reprimand for setting his dog after a heron that was fishing in the river! If so-called trainers are getting away with this type of uneducated and cruel behaviour, what hope for the general public I wonder.

For the sake of clarity I have a well-trained dog, her poo gets picked up and she comes to the whistle if off lead (not near play parks, livestock or roads).

I do like dogs but am exasperated by some owners. The country park near where I live is a favourite for dog walkers. There are very clear signs telling people where dogs have to be on a lead and plenty of places where they can run free.
I've found that very few keep the dogs on a lead in the Dogs on Lead area. There are sheep grazing nearby and many birds and other wildlife in this part

I’ve been bitten twice both times by Jack Russells. I have owned dogs most of my life, medium sized to large. But the best of dogs is still an animal and unpredictable. As for dogs running free when there are signs prohibiting this I’m assuming that every (irresponsible) owner reads “except your dog of course”.

I think all dogs should be muzzled and kept on a lead if near any other animals.

Sorry, but I don't agree.
Too many owners treat their dogs like babies, too many owners do not train their dogs properly, they're too soppy with them, and some owners have enormous uncontrollable dogs (not just XL bullies) and use them like weapons or do not care if they cause problems.

Of course, the owners are to blame but often they're frightened to train their "fur babies" (yuk) properly.
Or the wrong people choose the wrong dogs.

IMO, not having known the love of a dog is to have missed one of the most rewarding and spititual experiences humans can have.
So ridiculous to blame dogs when it's humans to blame.

The above is exactly how I feel. I am sure others do too but these days it is considered strange not to like dogs. I loathe them for what it’s worth.

Guide Dog staff are only allowed to walk four dogs at a time and these are on lead because anyone with knowledge, knows no one can control more.
I’m so fed up with off lead, badly behaved dogs, especially those in packs of 6mor more being walked by ‘professional’ dog walkers. It’s a lucrative business, for which no qualifications are needed. Some local councils have a limit of 6 dogs but my council missed the opportunity. As a result we have dog walkers from nearby town using our parkland to run 7-8 dogs.
I’m losing my live and let live approach. It’s time to legislate no one to walk more than 4 dogs. Paid dog walkers to always have dogs on lead. Not extendable leads.

Having laws is pointless when there is no-one to enforce them. People take comfort from others breaking the rules and not being challenged, so then are happy to break the rules themselves. I was at a National Trust property the other day where dogs are welcome but only on leads at all times. Of course there was a man letting his dog run free…

Some dog walkers need to be mindful too. They are walking others dogs and I am sorry you cannot control 6 unleashed dogs at one time, yes there is a lady that does it on the nature paths near us. It is not safe as its taking a pack of dogs out.

And we know how packs of dogs can behave if they get out of control.
