Some of them don’t. When the dog runs a good way off, quite easy not to notice the poo.

That's more of a problem to me now in this wet muddy weather because I can't run through a boggy slippery field to catch up with the pooing dog, who runs off after depositing.
I spend ages searching the spot.

We have a short walk down to the beach which is used by eg families with children. If the photo attachment facility was working I would happily take photos of the dog poo that is deposited on that path on a daily basis!

Some of them don’t. When the dog runs a good way off, quite easy not to notice the poo.

Some dog walkers need to be mindful too. They are walking others dogs and I am sorry you cannot control 6 unleashed dogs at one time, yes there is a lady that does it on the nature paths near us. It is not safe as its taking a pack of dogs out.

Yes, the extendy ones do click back, but somehow my dog knows the difference between a lead clipped to his collar and the shorter rope-type one round the neck. He knows that the lasso type one means close walking to heel!

Our extending lead could be shortened and then could be clicked to stay in place. Very useful.

I take two sorts of leads on walks. The long extending one I use so the dogs can wander a bit and sniff. I switch to the shorter one near animals and children. On the beach and on the common the dogs have free reign, but their recall, (for a treat!), is good if needed.

We have an area in my town where a lovely walk has been created and I use it regularly to get in my steps. I accept that dogs will be off lead but I have nearly been tripped on several occasions by dogs running right in front of my legs. I have a bit of a dog phobia and using this walk has helped me a lot, luckily nobody walks those horrible XL or equivalent because I do tremble walking past them especially if they're not muzzled. I am hoping this meadow beside a river will be one of the areas covered by this, that would be nice.

Happy dogs don’t bark nonstop. My lab goes once weekly to my trainer. He mixes with a pack of dogs, they’re transported together. They play, race etc but no excessive barking and no power struggles. She only walks them in her enclosed fields because for safety reasons, she only ‘walks’ digs who go/have been to her training classes.

All the qualified trainers/behaviourists I know, no longer walk dogs in areas previously good to use. They’re ensuring dogs in their care are safe, mixing with suitable dogs, not bumping into a pack of 8 random dogs/

I don’t have a dog but like to do a walk across some local meadows by the river which is popular with dogs walkers. However two “professional dog walkers” are spoiling it by arriving with around 8 to 10 dogs letting them run off barking and scaring everyone else!! They are a nightmare. Sometimes there are sheep and cows and these dogs still run madly around. This should be banned, packs of assorted dogs circulating around makes me feel very vulnerable. I wonder how the owners of these dogs would feel if they could see this. Normally the ladies concerned are busy on their mobile phones!!! This should be banned!!!!

A dog walking field opened next door to us 2 years ago. The owner brings 10 dogs at a time in her van, which is fitted out with 2 tiers of cages so half the dogs travel on top of the other half. Unsurprisingly the dogs are over excited when released and bark nonstop. There is no way I would allow a dog if mine to be transported like that

But yes, I meant there have been some dog attacks near here, small dogs attacked and their owners terrorised and bitten.

The irresponsible owner plus dog then absconds from the scene without even an apology.

Never have we treated them with less heart and compassion.

Sorry, but I don't agree.
Too many owners treat their dogs like babies, too many owners do not train their dogs properly, they're too soppy with them, and some owners have enormous uncontrollable dogs (not just XL bullies) and use them like weapons or do not care if they cause problems.

Of course, the owners are to blame but often they're frightened to train their "fur babies" (yuk) properly.
Or the wrong people choose the wrong dogs.

I agree with watermeadow and vandal. There was a time last century when dogs were allowed as much freedom as cats. Then they became totally housebound under control of human owner nd now it has got to the point where they are increasingly being expected to be leashed all the time. It is very sad. I’m so glad that parks near me don’t expect this and dogs can experience a little autonomy and freedom. The percentage of dogs that attack is so infinitesimally small, compared to men for instance, perhaps all men should be on leashes? No of course not. Dogs have been human companions shaped and evolved with us. Never have we treated them with less heart and compassion.

Jack Russells can be nippy, yes, but can more easily be controlled, unlike a dog like an XL Bully.

My beuce has a Cane Corso they are not classed as XL Bullies. She has a certificate to astest to that. He's the friendliest dog you could wish for much better than a few violent Jack Russell's I've met. She has him completely under control but because of prejudices he can only have a good run if she takes him to a dog park or in an enclosed field.

My daughter also has a Cane Corso, and yes, some people also think he is an XL Bully. He is a rescue dog and a big soft lump too - but people do cross the road to avoid him when she and her husband are out walking him.

I'd settle for dogs on a lead near the children's play parks and most definitely in them!!! I asked a lady to put her on the lead in the play park and she asked me 'why'. Unbelievable!! And yes, I told her!!

Anaesthesia doesn't work instantly. There's no time to be wasted when a dangerous dog is on the attack. One bite to someones throat and they're dead.

Talking of dogs I see that police had to shoot 2 XL bullies that had attacked an 84 man today They had to use 19 bullets all of which were in target to kill the dogs A woman owner is in custody and the 84 year old in hospital

What a disgrace. 19 bullets. Appalling.
In zoos vets anaesthetize huge, thick skinned animals with darts. But instead it was chosen to kill these animals in this slowish, inhumane way. They could have been anaesthetized first. Were they?
If not, a disgrace and stinks of gung-ho, macho revenge to me.
Should be an enquiry if this report is correct.

No, it's not a disgrace and the police should not have been expected to anaesthetise them.

Cheshire Constabulary Chief Constable Mark Roberts said: 'This was an innocent man who was simply walking in the street when he was horrifically attacked by a suspected unregistered XL Bully.

'The sheer size and ferocity of these animals mean that our firearms officers had to discharge 19 shots into them – all of which hit their targets - in order bring the incident to a conclusion and ensure the safety of the public.

What is a disgrace is that these animals were unregistered and still at liberty to attack and maul an old man. A child would not have survived such an attack and this man will be traumatised.

A disgrace that they were so vicious and out of control it took 19 bullets to make sure they were killed.

At least that is two less of these monstrous creatures.
