Good morning from a very frosty Black Country.

A good walk yesterday along the canal, and cafe stop halfway round. Chatted to a new lady whose name I will remember as it is the same as one of my DGD's.

Bought a Blood Pressure Monitor on the way home through town. Surgery rang me and asked me to do 3 reading and she would ring me back in 30 mins. The readings were much lower. I have to do readings until Monday and send them in. This morning they seemed to be 'normal' thankfully.

Today I am meeting an ex work colleague in Bridgnorth for lunch. More of an acquaintance really, as only get to meet up maybe once or twice a year. In fact never managed it last year. It seems if I don't make contact to arrange, it never happens.

Mick you really should see your Doctor, this has been going on for too long.

Wishing you all the best day possible, with special thoughts to all our gransnetters feeling unwell and down.

Good morning from a sunny, frosty W Kent. A lunch out with friends today, life is difficult for them at the moment so hopefully we can all relax a bit. Later we will visit DD2 and GC for a catch up.
Mick time for a chat to the Doc.
Enjoy all the holidays
Best wishes

Bright sunshine and a heavy ground frost making an attractive sight from my bedroom window but mean I am in no hurry to get up. Oldies coffee morning to which I take my neighbour with Altzheimers and then preparations for arrival later of DD and DSiL. Should be a good day, and I hope that’s true for all of us.

EkwaNimitee Fri 28-Feb-25 07:32:47

Good morning Mick and everyone from frosty Carlisle where it is -1°C but another sunny day beckons. I prefer this to grey and damp even if it's warmer.
Mick, I'm another who recommends keeping a food diary, possibly your op has left your guts rather more sensitive. A discussion with your doc could be useful. Best wishes!

I didn't seem to achieve much yesterday. I did finally manage to nail down the gas engineer for my annual boiler check. I think they're doing it more as a favour to me as an old customer, they're pulling back from Carlisle....usual problem of staff shortages that businesses seem to have these days.

Today, a bit of seed sowing I think and I should really get to grips with some of the jobs on my to do list but is that likely?!

Do have a good day everyone if possible.

Good morning everyone from a sunny and frosty mid Essex. Yesterday I drove into town and collected my package from the big shop! Also did a little shopping which was satisfying. I’d used the rollator as I find it hard to carry anything while using walking sticks. Then spent a while setting up my new iPad, it’s a bit different from my old one which wasn’t getting updates any more.
susan I hope your mum continues to be settled in the home. Good that the estate agent was sensitive to the situation regarding selling her house, but difficult for you. Enjoy your trip to Anglesey!
bellasnana I hope that your DGS continues to improve, nice for you to have time with his brother.
fgt I hope the rain isn’t as bad as forecast, but at least you’ll stay dry in Juan’s!
I hope those who are feeling poorly today will feel a bit better, thoughts are with those who have worries or anxieties. May we all see some 🌞today, have the best day possible everyone.

madeleine45 Fri 28-Feb-25 07:28:02

Good morning Mick and all GN's from a clear cold North Yorkshire morning.

Not been outside yet, but weather man said it was -4 at 6am, so not in a great hurry to brave the elements, especially as I am outside on the yellow peril and no heater warming up the car, so it will definitely be thermals and big coat on this morning.

Sorry to hear you are not well Mick and hope that you soon feel better. It is not just coping with things, but you lose that chance to see people and get out which makes things worse. Hope that at least the promised better weather today might at least give you a chance to get outside.

Today I am going out as soon as I can get ready and going to the supermarket for some things I need for today, and of course the newspaper, and then get back here to do some basic things and then going to a beginners chess class for 10am.

I have some basic knowledge but picked up in dribs and drabs and so it will be good to be shown properly by someone who knows what they are doing. Hope I havent picked up any bad habits, as whether it is singing or driving or whatever, I find it much harder to unlearn something than just not knowing how to do something. Anyway it will get the brain working in a different way hopefully.

Another rubbish night and little sleep, but about 5am I put the television on and it had beautiful seascape and waves crashing on shore. They had annoying music with it, I had hoped for the sound of the sea which I find soothing. So turned sound off and at least found it calming and soothing.

I am so pleased to see the back of february, it has not been a good month for me, so will hope for a better March. Silly really to think a change of name will make any difference but at least the thought of more daylight and some flowers will be cheering.

I did manage to go through some things , as someone was meant to be coming yesterday afternoon, so spent quite a while sorting bedding and clothes out that I am not using regularly and have some high cupboards and she was going to put them all up out of the way. Unfortunately she wasnt well so didnt come. Consequently now have piles of things waiting to be moved, but am not so stupid as to try and do it myself!

I have to read through an insurance document today, and so if the weather stays sunny, I might be able to find a sheltered corner to sit outside and read through it. They are boring to go through but it is important that we do. Over time I have found mistakes in them, which have been easy enough to sort out at the time but would have given them some ways of not paying out if I had had to claim. Still a decent cup of coffee and a little sunshine should improve matters.

No other plans for today. Still finding it hard not to be able to drive or go anywhere, as cant even walk enough for it to be worth trying to get a bus to anywhere. Feeling in desperate need to see Swaledale and the sea and to go and look at some flowers somewhere. Unfortunately 2 good friends ahve recently moved away to be with their families and another friend has shoulder trouble so another time could have organised something . Ah well, I go on tuesday for the measurements for my eye and then hopefully they will tell me when I might have the operation.
hope the sun shines for everyone today and we can look forward to more Have a good day and be kind to yourselves.

LLFL Travelling in Egypt unaccompanied sounds very brave to me. Glad you are having a good time in Australia.

glammagran Fri 28-Feb-25 07:23:53

Good morning from a cold but sunny Wiltshire.

Yesterday evening we went over the road to the field opposite just after dusk and made out 4 of the planets. Looking up made me feel lightheaded so didn’t stay long.

Pantglas we stayed at a hotel in Hurgada some years ago and I too remember all the staff without exception were male. My abiding memory is of 2 enormous Russian women who ate 2 main courses, one after another for lunch. Hotel wasn’t a good choice as it was November and the sun disappeared behind the building at about 3:30pm. A couple of years prior we had been in Sharm el Sheik and had scuba diving lessons. The fish were magnificent but the following month a German woman was killed by a shark just where we had been. Hotel food was really excellent much to my surprise.

Did quite a lot of cleaning yesterday (a fairly unusual activity!) as my eyesight is quite poor and I need a good light to see all the dust.

Thoughts with all those u well or troubled. Have a good day everyone.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 28-Feb-25 07:12:08

Morning everyone from a bright, frosty and rather chilly S E Essex.

My friend is picking me up just after 9am to take me to the gym, where I can join the Friday class sitting on a chair (more interested in seeing my pals, having a chat and tea afterwards)
So looking forward to it, and it will give DH a couple of hours to himself.

We may go to a local Italian this evening, I will see how my aches and pains are 🤪

Safe journey pantglas2 haven’t been to Hurghada it dound other parts of Egypt to be very ^male heavy^in the staff

Mick hope you feel better soon, maybe contact your GP

Take care folks 🙋‍♀️

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 28-Feb-25 07:11:43

Good to hear you are enjoying your holiday LLFL. You have more family out there than I realised. We travel home too next Friday - however our journey time will be much shorter than yours!

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 28-Feb-25 07:06:53

Good morning everybody from Málaga where it’s Dia de Andalusia and we have an amber weather warning for torrential rain in Málaga province! Luckily our plans are to stay home this morning (we did a lot of walking yesterday) and I’m going to cull the clothes I have out here. I’m determined this time that Less is More!

A table is reserved in Juan’s below for lunch at 2pm. It will be super busy with Spanish families enjoying the public holiday. At least if it’s a heavy downpour we won’t get wet! We are meeting friends who live in our block. They hail from Glasgow and have lived here for 25 years now. Is always a pleasure to spend an afternoon with them and they keep us up to date with local happenings!

Oopsadaisy1 Fri 28-Feb-25 07:06:24

Good morning everyone from a frosty Oxfordshire, hopefully we will have another sunny day.
3 days of headaches and nausea but much better today, I must do some housework and washing, shopping delivery later.
MzOops is going back home today, she is good fun so will be missed.
Have a good day everyone, hope those who are poorly get some relief soon, safe travels for those on the move.

Susan56 Fri 28-Feb-25 07:05:28

I hope your appointment goes well cornergran and isn’t as long as you think it will be.

Susan56 Fri 28-Feb-25 07:04:14

Good morning from Shropshire.Sun forecast.

A good visit to mum on Wednesday. She seemed settled.I hope it lasts🙏🏻Her house will be going on the market next week. The Estate Agent was very sensitive to the situation so it wasn’t as bad as I had thought it would be.

We are going to look after the children this morning then later we are all going to Anglesey, a trip booked as a surprise by my DD’s for my birthday on Sunday. We spent all our childhood holidays at my grandmothers holiday cottage in Anglesey.I am looking forward to showing the grandchildren where I spent a lot of happy times as a child.

Good to hear your little grandson is on the mend Bellasnana.Thoughts with Auntieflo, Marydoll and all unwell.

Have the best day you can everyone🦩

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. Mick time to see the doc again - don’t suffer unnecessarily. We are in for a sunny day today but it’s a cold start. There was a casualty at our walking group yesterday before we even set out - one poor lady missed her footing and fell flat on her face, breaking her glasses and got a chunk of glass stuck in her face. Luckily it missed her eye. There was a lot of blood. They gave up on an ambulance and someone took her to hospital by car. Just a freak accident. There but for the grace of God…..
I have a physio appointment this afternoon in a distant part of the city. DD is going to drive me - she knows the area and I don’t. But I think she just wants to make sure I’ll go!
Have the best day you can folks.

cornergran Fri 28-Feb-25 06:53:09

Morning Mick, morning All from a frosty corner of Somerset

Busy one ahead. Early start to pick up Mr C’s new glasses then a long hospital appointment for me. Not looking forward to this one. If there’s time would love a walk outside, the only one we managed yesterday was around Tesco. Really must have the car washed, flood water has left a fine coating of mud, it looks dreadful.

Mick please do make contact with a medical professional, it could be helpful to keep a food diary too. Thinking of everyone with personal mountains to climb

Hope Friday is kind to us all.

Ha ha LLFL! I can well believe it!

This is the first hotel ever ( and there have been many…) where there are no female staff! No reception, cleaners, chefs, waitresses, chambermaids - nada!

Happens her3 too. Every time I’ve accompanied DH to buy ME a car, the salesman ignored me and talked to DH until I asked a question (which DH didn’t understand) regarding the mechanics of the car, which he’d generally be unable to answer 😁. I’d coldly tell them that the car was not for him, etc. Drives me mad.
It’s worse now I’m old and widowed as well as female!

Good morning all from a misty and chilly North Leicestershire.

We had a successful shop for birthday presents yesterday and also bought some velvet cushions

Today is my my normal Friday - the butcher's and Waitrose. I know how to live!!

Have the best day possible all.

Good morning Mick and all who follow from my last day in sunny Hurghada where we’re about to go for breakfast ( the Egyptian flatbreads are to die for but I’m having 🧇 as a treat this morning 🌅 ).

Sorry to read that AuntieFlo isn’t well and joining the list of intermittent posters 💐 and those with health woes x.

Last minute packing this afternoon (hand luggage) then a taxi to the airport and the long trek home to little Wales where a week of 🌞 awaits - oh lucky me will get my holiday washing dried for free! Small wins, eh!

Will pop in later to read of all your bizzinesses…🤗

A few years ago I drove OH and I all the way across the Sinai desert from Cairo to Hurgada. Every time there was a checkpoint (there were lots) the soldier would lean across me and speak to OH!

Kalu Fri 28-Feb-25 06:33:34

Good morning all. Weather prospect to day in Glasgow is dry and some sunshine.

Successful dentist visit yesterday when he fiddled about with the implant to refit and fill the gap temporarily until a new one can be made. Nice to be able to talk normally and smile again and enjoy a catch up coffee, in store, with my cousin after our Waitrose shop.
I will have bloods done at the surgery this morning then looking forward to collecting GD2 after school when we will try a new venue for afternoon - -tea- -, coffee.

Best wishes to all for a good/better day for those with worries and struggles.

Good morning from s somerset and it is going to be a beautiful sunny day

Yesterday was marvelous, amazing how things get done during the day, really I don`t start by making a list of what to do, it just happens and I am driven by mood and impulse

Three paper patterns and dresses went out, finally, I decided they were not for me they do nothing for my matronly figure, I used fabrics that I did not like, no good energy in them to light my face either

I did my first cycle of 2005, apprehensive of course as there is a hill. I managed it, went to my plot and had been wanting to take my heavy lump hammer. I did not take it thankfully, it would have been the last straw on the camel cycling up that hill. I now know that I still have the basic leg strength and it will improve in leaps and bounds every time I get out on a ride. Winter does drain my fitness

I had a lovely chat with a gentleman on the site and I will be going to the agm next month. I am hoping to slowly learn names, I am no good at remembering names until I get to know them

I hope this weather lasts a while, I know it is a false spring but it is so uplifting and brings people out of hibernation. Today will be another cycle ride, tidying continues too

Have a good day

Bellasnana Fri 28-Feb-25 06:01:41

Good morning from Malta where the high is set to reach 19°C today. Very weird weather as yesterday was cold and rainy.

Sorry you missed your trip out Mick but wise of you not to have attempted it whilst feeling under the weather. Hope you will be ok today.

Had a good day with the boys yesterday, littlest still not 100% but improving.

DD3 had to take him for an appointment with a lovely doctor who is studying to be a GP and asked if he could follow littlest as he’s doing a study on childhood asthma. They had to do a recorded interview for his exam and he had brought chocolate as a thank you(shame DD3 doesn’t allow them any😄).

Whilst they were there, I took Twin 1 with me to Lidl and he was a star! Good as gold and I really enjoyed his company. It’s good for him to have some one on one time as his brother is most definitely the more dominant character and tends to take over.

Must dash, just seen the time and I’m due at DD3’s.

Thinking of you all, especially those with illness, sadness and frustrations to cope with.

Have the best day possible.☀️

Good morning from a dry but very chilly Bristol. We are to have some sun.l.
Yesterday was interesting. I left my tai chi class a little early to meet my friend. We were supposed to walk to the botanic gardens but she decided to take the bus and then walk the rest of the day.
The botanical gardens are part of Bristol university and the site has apparently been moved from one place to another, always in some fancy garden with mansion, of which there are very many round here.
Unfortunately the snowdrops were over, and the other spring flowers weren’t really at their best, but it was nice enough. I’m afraid the planting growth will need to be much farther advanced to show its attraction. I enjoyed the hothouses as they had a lot of tropical plants from my childhood in my native Mauritius, very nostalgic.
I went to the optician to find out if, although still using steroid eye drops, I could have a test for new glasses. Sadly not. I’m finding that although my eye is functioning well with its new lens, my glasses are no longer very helpful and cause me a lot of problems atm. Can’t wait for me to ge5 new ones…
Spanish class this morning. Nice walk to the centre.
May your day be, if not joyous, contented and peaceful. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩
