Do you celebrate Easter?

Pancakes on Shrove Tuesday, but we give Lent a miss. Hot cross buns on Good Friday (not before), Easter Eggs all round the family on Sunday, and an egg hunt for the young grandchildren. Lamb on Sunday.

And I'm an atheist!

I decorate my church and go to as many services as I can .
We normally have a special lunch there .
I send chocolate eggs to my immediate family.
And Easter cards to my friends and neighbours .
It's a pretty time of year flowerwise .

and have been known to sulk if I don't get an egg.

Easter has been celebrated for thousands of years, way before the Christian religion commandeered it.

I love the pagan celebrations. This one celebrates spring.

Sorry I thought Easter was to celebrate the resurrection of Christ.

Well if you are Christian - of course Easter is the chosen time to celebrate that.

It is about life and the resurrection of life.

Much like the celebration of gods like Eostre, and others who represent renewed life, fertility, and health.
Or Jewish Passover or the Islamic Nowruz. And of course other deity religions recognising the yearly renewal.

I am a humanist, but I do love all this celebration of spring and renewed life.

It's interesting that meteorological Spring was yesterday, 1st March, but to most of us Spring begins with astronomical Spring at the Equinox.

It might be a bit warmer then too. 🤞

Oh, I like Easter eggs. If I'm not given one I buy myself one half price after Easter!
There's something about Easter egg chocolate 😀

I love Easter. Not the eggs so much, I love the associations - spring, tradition, moss, primroses, easter hymns, it renews my faith in the world.(much needed these days!)

In truth, many repeat questions about Christmas are asked each year, but again, it doesn’t matter.

I think it’s nice that these questions generate discussion.

If it’s a question you’ve seen before, no one is compelling you to contribute to it again if you don’t wish to - just skip the topic.

I probably couldn't remember what was on herd from one year t the next and there are always new ideas too.

My mother used to put food dye in the water when boiling eggs for Easter morning breakfast so we'd have blue, green, pink eggs. With soldiers of course. 😁

Not religiously but I will treat myself to some hot cross buns…a traditional recipe of course! And having surveyed simnel cakes this morning and resisted buying one because I know mine would be better, I might just get round to making one.

I've made simnel cakes in the past but I'm the only one who likes marzipan!

Yes, egg rolling down a hill when children and grandchildren were younger, Easter eggs for the same people and a meal at ours. If it’s dry and not freezing the first bbq of the year here.

Easy mistake to make.

It's not surprisingthst the Pagan and Chrstian festivals are linked at Easter, because they both have similar spiritual meanings. Pagans celebrated Spring, New life and fertility, just as Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus as bringing new life.

For Christians it is and the most important Christian festival of all.

However, eggs and sweet Easter bunnies are pagan.

It's not been clearly established if Easter is named after the pagan goddess Eostre or if, in fact, there ever was a goddess called Eostre. Ostara (Eostre) celebrating the Spring Equinox is a fairly modern invention.
