Mine is a towelling turban to wrap wet hair in. I can even put on my clothes whilst wearing it. Does not sound much but I swim a lot and wash my hair every day.

Little things ……

A roll of transparent duct tape.
So useful.

Simple strawberry huller. Agree about the hair wrap, really neat and easy.

A hole punch ( but then I found my old one which I had lost).

Mine is the plastic gadget to help me put socks on. I saw it on line and it was only a few pounds so I thought I wouldn't have wasted too much money if it was rubbish. It's actually been brilliant. Socks slide on beautifully and I don't have to spend ages trying to get a sock over my toes before I even start pulling it up. Even worse were the times I had to give up and ask my son to put them on for me. That just seemed really pathetic.

Toastie pockets. I have a daughter who is celiac and can’t use our toaster for her gluten free bread when she comes home because of the crumbs. So I bought a pack of Toastie pockets and now she can use our toaster with impunity.

We have jacket potatoes quite often; 'saw a little gadget in a local store in the sale, about £2. The potatoes are pressed onto small spikes on the stand, and cook in about half the time.

I need that gadget Deeda

A meat thermometer- since moving house some years ago and using an electric oven I’ve struggled to roast beef without ( spoiling it) overcooking it! I guess my old gas oven was ‘slower’.

Cowboy boots. £50 from £150.
They will see me out and will get a lot of wear.

I recently went to one of our local two charity shops and bought a gorgeous woolen cape, medium browns and bits of black etc. three front ''duffle coat'' buttons, fringes all around, only £3.50. I love it!

Two nice jumpers from Oxfam online. It's a bit of a treasure trove, some of the clothes & sunglasses are fabulous & the site is very easy to negotiate, plus they often have a sale. 😎

An all-weather coat with hood from an outdoor outlet. Originally £100, marked down to £70, final reduction £40. Took it to the till and it came up as being £30.

Great quality, stylish understated colour [not black/navy/grey/quilted] and warm without being bulky. Bargain.

Other than that an excellent coffee and delicious slice of special cheesecake at a local place...so much pleasure for little money.

The same day found a book I'd wanted to read in a charity shop, as new, for £1. Hours of enjoyment.

Poachies for foolproof poached eggs. I buy them 100 at a time very cheaply.

A car seat buckle holder, so much easier to strap my granddaughter in her booster seat.

An adjustable gadget thingy for prising lids from jars,
essential for arthritic hands, £4 and a slightly larger than
usual slotted spoon, curvy, also £4, Morrisons, these
little things which make such a difference.

A really comfy and stylish pair of leather Fat Face Chelsea boots from a charity shop which were brand new. They cost £20 which is a real bargain. I had trawled the shops looking for new ankle boots but these tick all my boxes.

2 new hot water bottles today. My old ones had begun to leak. Looking forward to bedtime.

I bought that sockaid Deedaa after my hip replacement operation. It is brilliant. I no longer need it as I can again reach my feet.

I had a couple of those, goodness knows where they disappeared to. Thry were very good.

Leg warmers from SamPound

Are poaches easy to use shysal?

VB000 Thu 13-Mar-25 12:38:15

My son just discovered you can poach eggs in the microwave in a cup of water with a dash of vinegar - he found it on Youtube!

1 kg bag of black peppercorns. Much cheaper in the long run than buying those little jars or packets at the supermarket.
