Lives that must revolve around Politics

Ok if you have that inclination.
And time.
And energy.

But there are other people who dont.
They may be
putting food on table
Giving birth
Childcare
Looking after elderly or dying parents
Multiple hospital visits
Massive failing health

Amongst many other things.
I can add to that list, or others can.

I would say though, that Politics is far from the answer to everything in the Universe. Very far from it.

I have seen it for years.
On forums and in real life.
As if Politics should be the very centre of a persons' being.
And if not, why not?

And my gosh if someone does not even have any interest in it.
Well there must be something wrong with them. or worse, They are derelict in their duty to the world.

What rubbish.

Rant over,

That has been in me for a while.Years.

I couldnt care less if anyone replies.
Good or bad.
I just needed to say it!

It is fine to take no notice of politics but not if one then grumbles that they never knew their pension was going to be delayed by several years.

The OP is a regular contributor to the N&P threads.

And to a poster upthread, my nephew had a baby today. Yay!
And his partner too, presumably?

๐Ÿฅ‚๐Ÿพ Congratulations to the new arrival ๐Ÿ‘ถ

Itโ€™s not wineoclock yet, is it?
But as the saying goes: it is somewhere in the world.

I am confused, the OP's second comment says that there is something for them and the disillusioned on the N&P threads. Plenty of us on GN are disillusioned with politics but I doubt if many, if any, let it take over two thirds of our lives.
You have only to read the non N&P threads to see that pre-occupations outside politics are numerous and very wide ranging.

Is the OP saying there should not be N&P threads on GN or just that they want to judge those who initiate them and comment on them in the same way as they perceive themselves as judged. I don't think many people think a lack of interest in politics for whatever reason means that people are "derelict in their duty to the world". TBH I don't even know what that means.

There have been times in my life when I have had two jobs (three at one time) and I probably was less interested in politics than I am now that I have more time.

There is a very simple solution, don't look at threads that you know are going to annoy you. Could it be any simpler?

The trouble with rants is that they only tend to make sense to the person who has ranted. Sorry fancythat, I think this is one of those - none of us has eyes into anybody elseโ€™s thought processes.

eazybee Mon 17-Mar-25 17:46:29

There have always been taxes.
But it isn't one single person ie a dictator, setting them.
And there have to be jobs in government departments.
Yes, and and the government departments decide where the money goes and the MPs argue about it, on behalf of their constituents.
But it isn't the answer to life and the universe.
Perhaps you will share your vision with us???

Claremont Mon 17-Mar-25 17:18:52

'And it is almost cruel[not meaning you] to expect someone who works 2 jobs, and has 5 mins free on the number 49 bus, to supposedly look at politics, never mind research it.'

but no-one is expecting you to do this, not a single person.

It is very fortunate for you that some people are prepared to devote their lives to politics, or government, providing: improved earning capacity, medical care, childcare, education, care for the elderly, hospitals, and general improvement in health.
So what would YOU suggest as an alternative as the answer to everything?
Rely on the generosity of the public to provide?

Not going to reply to everyone, but I will reply to this as well.

No, there have always been taxes.
There has to be.
And there has to be jobs involved in the government departments.

But it isnt the answer to life and the universe.
it is but a part.
And as others and myself have said, there are more important things.

And to a poster upthread, my nephew had a baby today. Yay!

Whitewavemark2 Mon 17-Mar-25 17:17:46

Iโ€™m not at all sure what you are saying, or to whom the thread is directed.

I know of no one on GN who lives solely for politics. Perhaps you know different?

Cossy Mon 17-Mar-25 17:16:58

fancythat if youโ€™re not interested, donโ€™t have time, donโ€™t want to research or have just had enough of it all, thatโ€™s all perfectly ok.

Donโ€™t take part thanks

I expect that you feel a lot better now.

To remain feeling better I suggest that you skim over the N&P threads, there is nothing in there for you๐Ÿ˜Š

Ah but there is you see.

And maybe for the disallusioned as well.

But it certainly does not take over I would say 2/3 of peoples' lives?

And it is almost cruel[not meaning you] to expect someone who works 2 jobs, and has 5 mins free on the number 49 bus, to supposedly look at politics, never mind research it.

Admittedly this site is for Gransnetters on the whole.
But the whole world is not full of just this one category.

I do take a great interest in politics, but my first priority is my family, then friends, then cake ๐Ÿฅง๐ŸŽ‚๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿฉ

oh yes, cake, family, friends, dogs, fun, nature, culture and so much more.

And politics, with a small 'p'- things that make so much difference to all our lives.

Wonder how many GBetters are giving birth atm however.

Good priorities to have. Especially cake.

Mine doesnโ€™t.
But I enjoy keeping up to date with current affairs and political shenanigans.
When I have time. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Doodledog Mon 17-Mar-25 16:50:41

I have a friend who always said that she wasn't interested in politics, didn't vote, and sneered at people who did show an interest.

Since she lost her WFA, however, her FB posts are full of cliched rants copied from X or tabloids, with ill-informed political diatribes.

Even she doesn't go as far as to suggest that those who have an interest in the world around us are not interested in their own families, or earning a living though grin.

valdavi Mon 17-Mar-25 16:49:45

The USA has been one of the most politically apathetic democracies in the world for years - & look what a mess they've gotten into.

All more important than Politics.

I could be rude in replying too, but will hold further posting for now.''

so you start a whole ranting new thread instead! Funny!
