Cabbie isn't funny we have our favourite mugs . I have lot of mugs but still use the same 2 one of during the day and the one for my nightly hot chocolate . Also I found it's sods law if I break anything it's always clean. Why don't I break something before it's cleaned 🤔

Anything cracked is thrown away . But I always buy a replacement. Because I break at lot of things due to my disability I always have spares of the same thing .

Unfortunately my husband's 3 favourite mugs I used to drink out of it was like ,don't laugh but having a kiss from him . But of course I broke them a long time ago . Funny how we have our favourite things we like to use even if we have lots of other things the same . 😊

I have mugs for certain drinks breakfast tea fruit herbal or green tea chocolate soup or Bovril. I use cracked or chipped mugs to grow herbs or anything for a starter or plug plant they are too handy to throw out.

The ones I never use belonged to my husband. Three have his name on.
I have no cracked mugs. I agree that they harbour germs so they get thrown out. I have two special ones which I still use for sentimental reasons, even though they have tiny chips on the side I don’t drink from. One is many years old, a gift from a pupil. Fortunately I do have another one exactly like the one I broke, so I have now brought it into use.

I was given some lovely side William Morris ones as gift of course they broke within the first year. All the shite ones still alive and well 😭

I treated myself to two Keith Brymer Jones mugs in a sale. They are both white, one has 'Crouch End' typed on it and the other has 'Champs Elysees' on it .

I bought four mugs from Asda 15 years ago, in warm earthy colours, so when a few weeks later I had a new kitchen fitted I used their colours - almond cupboards, chocolate brown mottled worktops, terracotta walls and mixed light and medium browns for the tiles. The kitchen still looks like new but only one of my fave mugs has survived.
For family or visitors now I use from my variety selection of "best Grandma in the world" range, even though my only grandchild is now in her late twenties.

I have lots of mugs, enough to host a coffee morning, my husband and most visitors have the pretty pottery ones, I have quite a few I’ve bought over the years, which I think I might like, but didn’t, my absolute favourites, which makes tea taste better than anything else are National Trust mugs, I had three, but I broke one last week, need to replace it on my next excursion.

Now I live alone, I only have the mugs I like, which are bone china and simply white, which I buy in the sale time so have a couple of spare if one breaks. But , of course, had much more with the family.

My father used to say cracks harboured germs etc, and after having to put up with whatever they had in the war time, would never allow a cracked mug to be used even to put something in the fridge. But what I liked to do was quite simple.

Any cracked ones would be kept in a plastic bag in the kitchen. Then on an infuriating day of whatever annoyance from banks, bills, children or whatever, I used to really enjoy going to the bag and getting one or two mugs out and with great force throwing them on the floor so that they smashed!! It was very simple to sweep up the bits and chuck into the bin and it relieved my feelings mightily.!!

Now on my own rarely break any but if I did I would save them to have a Donald Trump moment. Try to avoid hearing anything about the lunatic but if I do it would give me great pleasure to rechristen the mug and smash it!!

Buy a new one and throw the rest outings they're faded

I have three favourite mugs on a rota so that on the law of averages (or Sod's law) I will always have a favourite mug available. I am thinking of taking all my unused mugs to the re-cycle shop at our local Waste depot. Freeing up shelf space has become a raison d'etre.

I suspect it’s the same law that dictates that bolognaise sauce always splashes onto either a brand new or a favourite top…. not on the old tatty one that’s destined for the ragbag!

We did a PTA stall once using mugs we didn’t like! To disguise this we put a bag of penny sweets in each and tied the whole lot up in a cellophane bag with a ribbon. We made a few quid for the coffers, and enjoyed our empty cupboard space.

Cabbie21 Sorry that you broke your best mug. It takes a lot of trial and error to find the one that suits you. Hope you can find a replacement.

Well, you're not going to break the mugs that you don't use!

My favourite mug says 'housework is for those who can't knit', my brother bought it for me for Christmas and I broke it so bought myself another identical one.

Why not get rid of the ones you don’t like and get a couple similar to the broken one?

quite.. I bought 4 nice large fine china mugs on-line and so always have my tea in a mug I like.. I can't bear pottery mugs
