Woman's football

I am not a football fan and I don't usually watch sport on TV but yesterday afternoon after a busy morning I watched Landscape Artist of the year which we'd recorded and before I'd bothered to turn the TV off the woman's football match between Chelsea and Man United came on. What a revelation!

I've watched a few men's matches that have been like paint drying but this was excellent, quick accurate passes, an attacking game with generally clean tackles and good manners. Thrilling saves from the goalies and a joy to watch. I thought MU should not have had their second goal disallowed, ref should have played the "advantage" however, a thoroughly enjoyable game. Anyone else watch it?

Only the end but what struck me was the sheer joy that young boys exhibited as they watched the brilliant women players. Thought that was wonderful to see.

I am not a fan of football in any shape or form but I think that it is great that there are now some great women's teams out there and that women's football has finally been given the recognition it has deserved.

My sister is a great football fan and she was also potentially a great player but she was never able to play in a team as women's football was not recognised by the FA who made it as difficult as they could for women to find grounds to play on.

I also am not a football fan! but fully support women's football, they are are a positive influence for all young people and the football world in general.

I am a fan of both the men's game and the women's. Chelsea were playing Manchester City not United, and it was right the second Man City goal was disallowed as you could clearly hear the whistle being blown while the ball was in the air. That the referee should have played the advantage isn't questioned but that referee is one of the worst for making poor decisions.

Rosie you are correct, it was Man City! Thanks for explaining the rule. As I said I'm not a follower of football!

Unfortunately I was watching Man United play yesterday, they were beating my team Aston Villa. We’ve been Villa fans for a long time but started going to the women’s games 2 seasons ago as my 13 year old granddaughter is a very keen player.
