Just that really. Do you like dramas, comedies, soaps or documentaries for example?

Am I the only one who watches the Talking Pictures channel? (Freeview channel 82) They often have old black and white films, some of which, admittedly, I find hard to follow!

Apart from that, I like watching murder mysteries like Diagnosis Murder and Father Dowling.

I have the TV on a lot of the time, mainly for company as I live alone.

Far too many hours. It is so tempting when there are so many good dramas - or at least many of them start off good and then sort of fizzle out. If I have binged watched them, I ask myself why am I wasting so much time on rubbish (though dramas like Adolescent, After the Party and The Tower have exceeded expectations).

Meanwhile, I have so many books to read and other things to do - so I must try to be more disciplined.

I watch fro 7.30 - 10.00p.m.

I switch on the TV around 6pm and have a glass of wine before dinner. The TV then stays on until bed time for company/ background sound although quite often I don't pay any attention at all to what's on and am doing puzzles or reading or whatever.
Have lately been watching The Mentalist, Death in Paradise, Adolescence but always watch quite a bit of sport, Question Time, Laura K show, not much else really.

I enjoy good nature programmes, such as David Attenboroughs varied selection, also enjoy good dramas. So things like Happy Valley which I thought was very well done and great actors in the main part. I enjoy the quiz section of University Challenge and Mastermind and really enjoyed Only ~Connect, but not these just waffle quizzes where it is more talk than action.

Sods law though, I can see 3 good programmes on at 8pm and nothing else I am interested in all night. Also I sometimes watch QI which can be well done with Sandi Toksvig. I also occasionally watch some humorous programmes but they tend to be old ones such as Porridge or The Good Life as a lot of what is seen as funny these days does not appeal to me. But I am much more likely to listen to radio 3 and 4 for much of the time. I listen to a lot of classical music and also world music etc, and there are sometimes good plays on in the afternoon which is worth listening to.

Watch a lot of TV - dramas, documentaries, comedies (would I lie to you?, News Quiz, QI), quizzes, University Challenge, One-percent Club). Watch far too much of the news -not good for health and wellbeing ...,but I do also fall asleep through a lot of it. .

Do not watch tv most days. One hour a week when ironing and usually watch something house based - Location x 3, or a personal life style programme.

Not all that much tbh as am generally busy, either with my job or helping DDs with childcare or working in the home, or taking Mum somewhere.I also enjoy reading, nothing beats curling up in a chair with a good book.
If I’m in during the evening I like a good drama, also love Would I Lie To You and quizzes.

It varies. No particular reason. So times it's 8 hours or more so times it's none. It depends on, my mood, the weather, and if I'm busy or visiting clubs or groups etc. Or if I've got hooked on a new series.

Macgran43 Tue 25-Mar-25 17:57:54

I'm enjoying 2nd series of £10 Poms. I knew people who went Australia at that time. Mastermind is my favourite quiz programme. I confess to watching Coronation Street but there's too much crime in it these days. I recently came across "After You've Gone" on I Player starring Celia Imrie and Nicholas Lyndhurst. It was first shown in 2008 but I don't remember it. It makes me laugh which is good. Now that I live alone TV is more important. Try not to watch too much day time TV but occasionally watch Countdown on Channel 4

When doing rote work it’s on all the time. … usually from c 2 pm to end of day.
I watch / well mainly listen, with the occasional glance up, to the news, in particular CNN, as I have ‘ Trump Derangement syndrome’… HATE the evil s *. ( I’m British in the UK btw) .
But also Crime dramas, the occasional comedy , rom com etc, depending on my moods. The odd documentary, and Opera! A pretty eclectic mix. Usually end the day with CNN due to the time difference, as that is when you catch most of the ‘new’ news!

suelld Tue 25-Mar-25 18:16:25

When doing work I need to concentrate on , nothing , all is switched off …tho I occasionally listen to music then.
PS : I live alone and hate housework!

The only TV I have watched this year was Strictly, with a friend. Never switch it on.

SillyNanny321 Wed 26-Mar-25 11:21:24

Watch GB News first thing then maybe leave it on for noise while clearing up. Later watch Ancient History Documentaries if on or have Planet Rock on while reading. Evening mainly News or again Documentaries. Boring aren't I?

LaCrepescule Wed 26-Mar-25 13:56:43

Probably a couple of hours a day, sometimes more if I’m hooked on a series. I watch dramas and films and the occasional documentary.

watermeadow Wed 26-Mar-25 17:54:14

No television but I quite recently started watching things on the iPlayer. I don’t watch any drama, only factual programmes.
I have the Channel 4 app but can’t bear the advertisements so usually switch off after 10 minutes.

Grandmabatty Wed 26-Mar-25 17:59:19

Ashleysnana I like talking pictures too! There are lots of good films and dramas.
I have the tv on a lot as company really. Occasionally I'll look up and start watching something. My choice would be a film or crime drama. Or top of the pops on BBC4

I tend to watch travel and nature programmes - Michael Portillo, Great Canal Journeys, Emerald Isles, Mortimer & Whitehouse, The Good Ship Murder. Tales from the Riverbank has been interesting - I’d like to hire a boat on the Thames. I’m always attracted to water!
At the moment though, I’m hooked on ‘Meet the Rees-Moggs’ on Quest. I find Jacob R-M fascinating! He’s on another planet! 🤣 He seems very sincere, but he hasn’t a clue how ordinary people live. He’s just a product of his upbringing.

SophieTraveler Thu 27-Mar-25 03:15:20

Me too!😁

Ashcombe Thu 27-Mar-25 03:29:40

I like quizzes such as Mastermind, Only Connect and University Challenge. Also Richard Osman's House of Games. I enjoy Would I Lie To You?
Favourite dramas are Heartbeat and Call the Midwife because they are mostly gentle and set in “my era”!

Have BBC1 for breakfast, for about an hour. Then at lunch time watch an episode of Classic Doctors (on iplayer). CLassic Casualty whilst I have my tea. At about 7.30 settle down for evening with my knitting and use catch-up tv for any of the 'cosy murder type series'.

This way I only watch the very dismal news once a day, in the mornings. Have it on radio (BBC 1) at 6 pm - just about all I can take these days.

Upto recently I had a Humax on which I recorded things I wanted to watch to be able to see when I wished. That has given up the ghost and I have now been introduced to catch up tv and finding it pretty good. Still rarely watch anything when it is actually broadcast (except that one hour each morning).

I do feel that we are so very fortunate being old in this day and age, when there is so much entertainment available from our armchairs. Tv. is very important to me and do go to pieces if, for any reason, it is not working. But enjoy radio and audio books and my kindle.

I still feel that I need to be doing something else whilst watching tv - and the evenings are my happy knitting times.

FranR0618 Thu 27-Mar-25 14:45:59

It varies. Some days I don't watch at all. Then I'll binge-watch series like "Resident Alien," "The Pitt," "Big Little Lies," & "Loki." I binge-watch anything with Alexander Skarsgård or Tom Hiddleston. Also a fan of old movies with Bogart or Cary Grant. I avoid news programs for the same reasons I don't have a Twitter/X account. Mostly I read.

Cumbrianmale56 Sat 29-Mar-25 15:08:45

I use Youtube more than anything. I can find plenty of interesting things on there and there are repeats of television shows that haven't been shown for years. Regarding terrestrial television, I mostly watch dramas, intelligent game shows like Jeopardy, local news, antiques programmes and old Top of the Pops. Never watch soaps, reality shows or daytime gossip shows.

Jaxjacky Sat 29-Mar-25 15:36:05

Today I’ve watched about an hour of BBC Breakfast News and a football game, we’ll watch another game later, then I’ll catch up with Monty from last night.

Mt61 Sat 29-Mar-25 15:52:06

All sorts- I like a good drama, documentaries, bio- pic if it’s done well.
Just watched Yellowstone which was fab, then the follow up 1883, absolutely brilliant.
