Just that really. Do you like dramas, comedies, soaps or documentaries for example?

I'm enjoying 2nd series of £10 Poms. I knew people who went Australia at that time. Mastermind is my favourite quiz programme. I confess to watching Coronation Street but there's too much crime in it these days. I recently came across "After You've Gone" on I Player starring Celia Imrie and Nicholas Lyndhurst. It was first shown in 2008 but I don't remember it. It makes me laugh which is good. Now that I live alone TV is more important. Try not to watch too much day time TV but occasionally watch Countdown on Channel 4

It varies. No particular reason. So times it's 8 hours or more so times it's none. It depends on, my mood, the weather, and if I'm busy or visiting clubs or groups etc. Or if I've got hooked on a new series.

Not all that much tbh as am generally busy, either with my job or helping DDs with childcare or working in the home, or taking Mum somewhere.I also enjoy reading, nothing beats curling up in a chair with a good book.
If I’m in during the evening I like a good drama, also love Would I Lie To You and quizzes.

Do not watch tv most days. One hour a week when ironing and usually watch something house based - Location x 3, or a personal life style programme.

Lizzie44 Tue 25-Mar-25 14:31:01

Watch a lot of TV - dramas, documentaries, comedies (would I lie to you?, News Quiz, QI), quizzes, University Challenge, One-percent Club). Watch far too much of the news -not good for health and wellbeing ...,but I do also fall asleep through a lot of it. .

I enjoy good nature programmes, such as David Attenboroughs varied selection, also enjoy good dramas. So things like Happy Valley which I thought was very well done and great actors in the main part. I enjoy the quiz section of University Challenge and Mastermind and really enjoyed Only ~Connect, but not these just waffle quizzes where it is more talk than action.

Sods law though, I can see 3 good programmes on at 8pm and nothing else I am interested in all night. Also I sometimes watch QI which can be well done with Sandi Toksvig. I also occasionally watch some humorous programmes but they tend to be old ones such as Porridge or The Good Life as a lot of what is seen as funny these days does not appeal to me. But I am much more likely to listen to radio 3 and 4 for much of the time. I listen to a lot of classical music and also world music etc, and there are sometimes good plays on in the afternoon which is worth listening to.

I switch on the TV around 6pm and have a glass of wine before dinner. The TV then stays on until bed time for company/ background sound although quite often I don't pay any attention at all to what's on and am doing puzzles or reading or whatever.
Have lately been watching The Mentalist, Death in Paradise, Adolescence but always watch quite a bit of sport, Question Time, Laura K show, not much else really.

mabon1 Tue 25-Mar-25 14:04:47

I watch fro 7.30 - 10.00p.m.

Eloethan Tue 25-Mar-25 14:04:40

Far too many hours. It is so tempting when there are so many good dramas - or at least many of them start off good and then sort of fizzle out. If I have binged watched them, I ask myself why am I wasting so much time on rubbish (though dramas like Adolescent, After the Party and The Tower have exceeded expectations).

Meanwhile, I have so many books to read and other things to do - so I must try to be more disciplined.

AshleysGran Tue 25-Mar-25 14:02:16

Am I the only one who watches the Talking Pictures channel? (Freeview channel 82) They often have old black and white films, some of which, admittedly, I find hard to follow!

Apart from that, I like watching murder mysteries like Diagnosis Murder and Father Dowling.

I have the TV on a lot of the time, mainly for company as I live alone.

JamesandJon33 Tue 25-Mar-25 13:54:46

About 2 hours a day . Never morning or afternoon though. Mostly BBC 2 or 4, and hardly ever any of the other channels. We like art programmes, so Landscape or Portrait Artist, Pottery Throw Down etc. Plus history, MaryBeard, Simon Scharma.etc. Also Netflix. Last thing we watched and thought very good was 1883.

tinaf1 Tue 25-Mar-25 13:38:38

Less and less these days , if I do find a series I like I tend to binge watch if I can stream it instead of watching it episode by episode
Then find I’ve got nothing to watch 😋
I like history documentaries and enjoy Paul Whitehouse and Bob Mortimer in their fishing programmes.
Don’t enjoy reality TV and haven’t really found a decent comedy programme for ages, miss programmes like Only Fools and Horses , Porridge, One Foot in the Grave etc

Shinamae Tue 25-Mar-25 12:32:45

Far too much! 😜
Very eclectic taste….

Namsnanny Tue 25-Mar-25 12:31:24

I tend to watch things on the Internet nowadays.
Walking tours around any place are a favorites of mine. Museums I won't visit again, country walks, city walks, NT houses etc.
Archaeological remains especially in remote areas eg, Gobekli Tepe in Turkey, places I wouldn't be able to get to, are the most interesting.
I follow a few people who make videos about their life styles, off grid, or newly divorced/widowed, finding out how they coped etc.
Certain political pundits.
A few gardening channels, a few where people just chat about their lives.

If I watch TV tend to watch a whole series on on catchup in one go.

The one program I actually turn the telly on for is Married At First Sight Australia!😆 it caught my eye and now I'm hooked.
Not the British one, tried it, but it didn't gel.

Cossy, I’m pretty much like you. What hasn’t helped is sitting around for three months with a broken knee. I have loads of stuff to do but I just don’t get on with it. It’s called lazyitis! (For me in any case)

Granmarderby10 Tue 25-Mar-25 11:20:19

Perhaps if it’s Quizzy Night I’ll watch all those in a row eg Master Mind, Only Connect, University Challenge but last night missed University Challenge because switched to something else while the Chess thingy was on.

If there is a current good drama on a Sunday I’ll watch, Enjoyed Pottery Throwdown, …the rest is catchup or streaming box sets that I missed from years back.

Also YouTube trawling for comedy, food recipe videos, info and film reviews that throw up intriguing recommendations.

I try to limit rolling news unless it is an important developing situation…but sometimes get dragged into the doom….

But I have definitely become more selective about mainstream TV and watch according to my mood. sometimes it is on while I browse the internet but with volume muted and subtitles switched on!
A real “turn off” for me is Saturday cooking/food programmes, followed by football, just a yawn 🥱
Good incentive to do other stuff that needs doing though.

Grandma70s Tue 25-Mar-25 10:57:03

Some seem to be implying that if you read a lot you don’t watch television. I do both. I am mostly housebound, so TV is very important to me. It’s my ‘window on the world’. I watch a lot of news, current affairs and documentaries. I also like the more difficult quizzes like University Challenge - I never miss that. No soaps, in fact little fiction of any sort.

crazyH Tue 25-Mar-25 10:48:34

My TV is on all day. It’s just background chatter, while I get on with what I need to do.
But when I sit down, I love Documentaries , wild life programmes . I am not into soaps or fiction. I have Netflix, which has some fantastic documentaries.

Cossy Tue 25-Mar-25 10:45:53

Oh and I do enjoy documentaries and some quiz shows, the 1% club is my current favourite and I like only connect, though I rarely get anything right haha

I loathe the reality shows like Big Brother, Love Island etc, though I did watch the first couple of series of Made in Chelsea, and have been know to watch I’m a celebrity.

Baggs Tue 25-Mar-25 10:44:54

Zero hours.

Cossy Tue 25-Mar-25 10:43:21

Much more than I should!

I love thrillers and police dramas, these four part dramas that are often shown.

I enjoy films too.

Athrawes Tue 25-Mar-25 10:40:32

I enjoy watching the oldies eg The Bill and Heartbeat. I can understand them.
Todays plays / dramas I find difficult to hear what the actors are saying. I watched Ken Dodd last night and it was hilarious - I could understand him. Bring back the Golden Oldies I say!!!

Greyduster Tue 25-Mar-25 07:54:55

I usually put it on after tea but don’t watch the terrestrial channels much. I stopped watching soaps and news programmes a while back. Apart from history documentaries, I tend to binge watch things. I’m currently rewatching The Diplomat on Netflix, ready for series three which comes out this year. Like The West Wing it has a brilliant cast, slick dialogue and keeps you on the edge of your seat.

harrigran Tue 25-Mar-25 07:50:12

I probably watch too much TV these days but always do something else at the same time.
I enjoy dramas and follow soaps but do like to watch documentaries as well.

luluaugust Tue 25-Mar-25 07:43:30

Probably far to much this past Winter but now we are back walking and out more the afternoon viewing accompanied by a snooze will go.
