Good afternoon Morning!
I was held up on the ipad this morning with buggerations over an Internet order return until I gave up in disgust and went out!
It was grey and cold but the sun is out now and it is so lovely, Rosie is sunbathing at the window, toasting her tummy!
I too remember snow 50 years ago Borrheid it was the weekend of D1's christening and we were living in Tooting in S.London.
One of her godmothers had trouble getting up to London from Hampshire!
I hope life treats you all gently today and wish one and all a pleasant day.
Welcom Scotty. My daughter lives up in the village!! In fact I will be up there tomorrow.
Scotty16 my father was from Nulson! Marydoll and I met at a local convent school - you’ll know which one! Welcome to the thread. I don’t post every day but I do lurk. It’s nice to hear what others are doing, they are, in the main, a friendly bunch on here.
Welcome Scotty 👋 nice to see new names.
Good afternoon from a sunny North Yorkshire. I haven't posted on this thread before (I don't think) but I do read every day. Borrheid, I think you and Marydoll are from the same neck of the woods as I am, and of a similar vintage. I moved south 47 years ago but am originally a 'Nulson' lass.
We celebrate our Golden Wedding in August, how quickly the years have passed.
I do enjoy reading this thread, starts the day off well!
Afternoon GNers from sunny Ashford in Kent. Fifty years ago today the weather was the same in Paisley. I have the wedding pictures to prove it! The following week there was snow - winter isn’t over yet. That marriage lasted 10 years during which time we had had two children and had moved to Pimlico in London. I was divorced in 1986 and sheer bloody mindedness wouldn’t let me go ‘home’ to Scotland! I brought up the children on my own for seven years before remarrying in 1992. I can’t believe that 50 years has gone by. I remember thinking as a young woman that celebrating a Golden Wedding was for really old people. ( I was 70 in January! ) I don’t expect anyone to remember the date, just me reflecting on what went wrong and what the ( continuing) consequences have been.
My DH is wonderfully supportive if not the most romantic man in the planet but he is straight as a die unlike the first husband!
Marydoll I really hope you get some relief soon from your mouth issues. Could a dentist suggest any treatment?
Have a good day all!
Happy birthday, *why, why, why. Have a lovely time with your family
Happy birthday whywhywhy I wish you a very happy day.

BlueSapphire. I was at Northampton on Saturday and shocked to see the university avenue campus was being pulled down. My son went there once and he had a great time.
Happy birthday to you *whywhywhy ". I hope you have a lovely day
Good morning from a very grey midlands. It’s my birthday!
Spent a lovely weekend with my youngest son and meeting my eldest son and family on Saturday.
Have the very best day that you can. Hugs to all. Xx🤗🤗
Good morning everyone from a cloudy and damp Northampton; I have however put some washing on, as we are promised sunshine by late morning.
Folks, I am famous! I have been on BBC TV!
Went to the cinema yesterday afternoon to see Black Bag,.which I really enjoyed although I must admit to looking up the plot when I got home, as it had so many twists and turns that I couldn't fathom out!
On my walk through town to get to the cinema, minding my own business, I was accosted. by a woman with a microphone and a cameraman, and asked if I would mind being interviewed for yesterday's local TV news programme.
Northampton museum have an exhibition starting shortly with 100 items that represent the town; they have 99 but the hundredth item is to be put to the public vote. I was shown 5 photos and was asked which one I would choose.
Didn't think too much of the first four, but the final picture was a Doc Martens boot, and as Northampton was once the centre of boot and shoe making and Doc Martens were made locally, that was the one I went for.
Very nervously watched the local news programme last night and was pleased to find that I wasn't as dreadful as I thought! Breathed a sigh of relief that I had put make-up on and looked presentable! That was my 15 seconds of fame...
No such excitement ahead today! Must clean the bathrooms and kitchen, hang the washing out and deal with a Sainsbury's delivery.
Wishing all a pleasant day.
Good morning from South Lanarkshire, rather miserable looking I have to say.
Well done baubles and Mr baubles, you are a pair of ‘copers’ (I hope that makes sense😊)! It will be good to have the cataract operation over and done with.
Lots of bits and pieces to attend to today, I have made a LIST so I do mean business. Off to church and shops now and thinking enviously of the FGTs, bacon, goats cheese and olive oil on toast in the sun?! Utter bliss.
Thoughts to all under the weather to whatever degree and hoping for a good day for us all.
Good morning all. It's a grey day on the Angus coast but the darker clouds are dispersing and the small patches of blue are growing 🤞
I haven't had a detailed read of the thread yet - that's my lunchtime treat so can only comment wow! on FGT's photo - it looks glorious!! And it's so easily accessible to you. Have a wonderful time.
For me it's tai chi this morning - there's a surprise 😉 - and then the day can do what it wants, although I do have a letter to write, which I keep putting off.
Enjoy your day, everyone, and the sunshine ☀️
Good morning from 9C Sunnyside sandhills northwest coast.
Met up in the city with DS, DGD and her boyfriend, new to me.
A jolly time. DGD has been in China and gave me a lovely silk fan and golden bookmark.
I’m tired today and was disappointed on returning home to have a spasm in my stomach in the same place I had my hernia op’ in October, I hope it hasn’t failed…
On the health front too, I need to ‘phone the doc for an appointment to view a mole on my back. Too true the expression “the hospital years” after a certain age. Just add my still waiting for surgery for failed extraction with abscess in hospital and it’s rather a bore as many on here know.
GS I keep away from the news as much as I can, at this age and healthwise, there’s little I can do. I try to stay cheery.
Thoughts to our globetrotters and all with worries 🌺
U3A book group here this morning so must get organised for that. Need to collect my prescriptions from the surgery afterwards, but nothing else in the diary so will let the rest of the day unfold. Meanwhile think I will restrict the number of news bulletins I listen to as they are increasingly depressing and I am powerless to influence events.
Morning from a foggy S Hants, yesterday was sun/cloud but the washing dried. I:went to book club and in the evening to WI. My last WI, I’ve not really been enjoying it, very cliquey and after going for 6 months decided it’s not for me.
Today I’ve stretch class and a visit from my gardener, I need her advice on a few things.
Fingers crossed for your daughter brook what a horrible time waiting for a date.
Happy Birthday to your daughter harrigran 🎂
Beautiful FGT ☀️

Good morning Mick and all GN's frrom a sunny dry north yorkshire morning.
I am a bit later this morning, as the forecast said sunny and dry this morning, rain beginning this afternoon and probably getting worse. So it was hobble into the shower and then get the first load of washing in, so all the towels are having the first wash as they take longer to dry, then the bedding to follow and hope I get it all out on the line and dry before the rain starts.
I have been quite industrious yesterday, partly by choice and partly having to! It was a lovely sunny morning then, but I had booked for a delivery from Tesco and had to stay in waiting for it. However the man did come on time, and was very good about bringing it all in the kitchen for me. So by the time I had got it sorted and put away, was ready for a sit down. Couldnt bear to stay in while the weather was so lovely and am now free to drive, so in the afternoon went for a bit of a drive and to fill up on fuel . Then in the evening was picked up to go to whist drive. Very pleasant evening, but for some reason the room was very warm and everyone was mentioning it. There was no breeze at all last night and with 8 tables that meant 32 people so think we all warmed the place up. Some very odd hands, but I did improve on the second half and won a rather posh tin of danish biscuits.
So it is taking me ages but feel that I am slowly getting back to whatever passes for normal. Still struggling for a decent sleep and it takes me ages to get moving in the morning. However it is good to feel I am beginning to catch up with everyday things and now all the ironing is up to date, have a grand selection of things to wear.
Mundane morning now, hopefully getting all the washing out on the line, and the bed remade. Anything else I manage to do today will be a bonus. It is satisfying though to have everything clean including me even though it wont last for long. The only other thing I must do is get the calendar brought up to date. Have had a couple of appointments come just when I was going out and so didnt put them on, and it is easy to forget something when you are on your own and no one to remind you.
Karmalady, I used to sail and I had a sailing smock which might be the sort of thing you are looking for. It went over your head, was dense enough material (thick cotton I think) to cope with the wind, had long sleeves and then a wide deep pocket across the front, so you could shove things in it So perhaps if you made it with a divide in the middle it would let you carry seeds or secateurs and gloves or whatever and the sleeves protect you from scratchy brambles or nettles
Ashcombe Well done for managing your walk.
Must go and sort out the washer. It is making odd sounds and think the towels must have all got in a big lump together as it is banging about.
Hope everyone has a good day and the weather keeps fine for you
Good morning from Durham. A cool, windy day with a chance of rain later is forecast.
Watched DGS2 swimming yesterday - he bobs about like a little cork and chats to the teacher non stop. He’s so cute.
Today, I’m meeting a friend at a local garden centre, after that the day will revolve around DD2’s Little Dog and her laundry.
My friend who had the cataract op on Monday has also been told she will still need her glasses and not to lift so much as a full kettle!
Best wishes to all. X
Oh what a beautiful morning, oh what a beautiful day” tra-la music 🎶 🎵
Good morning everybody from Málaga! The sun is shining, the Mediterranean is a sparkling cobalt blue and at the front door the mountains behind us look impressive against a deep blue cloudless sky. No black clouds sitting on top of them this week, yay!
Weetabix, thick Greek yoghurt, blueberries and bananas for breakfast this week. No cooking. Not even toast! I didn’t buy any bread nor eggs or butter at the supermarket. We are going to treat ourselves and eat out all the time. To be honest it’s not expensive doing so here.
Today we plan to go into Arroyo for lunch. It’s a pretty little town. 20minutes walk. See pic. My favourite little bar has crispy bacon with goats cheese and olive oil on seeded toast. We will sit in the sun and drink AF beers. Tonight we’re meeting friends for dinner in Pedro’s. They hail from Bognor Regis and we haven’t overlapped out here since August when both our families would be in the gardens. It’ll be noisy in there tonight - Himself tells me Barcelona are playing and is a very popular bar with the locals! I’m looking forward to it already as Nelly (Argentinian) is a good cook!
