Reminds me of that advert

"Farmer would like to meet lady with a view to matrimony. Must have own tractor. Send picture of tractor".

If any one over 70 is "a bit confused " about their truck driving licence or " requires some guidance from a driving school that understands", isn't that Gods way of telling you don't renew it/ it's time to get off the road?

For my 60th(?) birthday DH bought me an hour's driving in a 40 ton HGV from a local driving school. It was on a Saturday afternoon and the boss drove us from the driving school base to an industrial estate based on an old airfield. He explained about gear changes and the golden rule was if any other vehicle appeared I was to stop immediately and put the truck in neutral with the handbrake on. We trundled up and down the old runway and he taught me how to do a three point turn. After about 45 minutes he asked DH if he would like a go so we swapped seats. It was good fun and a great experience to see the countryside and the roads from such a high level.

A young woman we know drives one of those enormous trucks in Australia.
However, she's nowhere near 70 😀

I had ‘grandfather rights’ on my normal driving licence to be able to drive up to 7.5 tonnes. Which I used for many years. On turning 70 I had to have a medical before I could have C1 added to my new licence. I was going to renew it but now DD has bought. herself a horse trailer and the 7.5 tonne horsebox is going. I shall miss it. I loved driving a biggish vehicle. I’d have loved to have had a go with an artic😂

I actually have a class C licence (as well as a C1). For a C it is every 5 years from age 45 and then annually from 65. All being well I intend to stop renewing it at around 68.

Many years ago I was living in Syria, and had my two year old son with me. We went for some meeting (cant remember what about now) at a quarry type place, which had very large dumper trucks and diggers etc. All men of course. Being me, I took the chance and asked if I could have a drive in one, and it was on private land so didnt need a syrian driving license to go on the road. They looked a bit uncertain, but as I was a quite high up visitor, rather reluctantly agreed.

I quite enjoyed taking both the digger and the dumper round the site and pulling up neatly into the parking bay. My son was impressed and looked up at the man in charge and said "My mummy can drive anything" . I just felt I had shown them that women were perfectly capable of driving them. Probably water off a ducks back, but dont think they had seen anything like that before!! So a bit of a shame that I didnt keep up my dumper truck driving when I got back here!!

Should be safe enough on a bus, Marydoll - as a fully paid up granny!

Thank you Allira. My seventieth birthday is not until May, but frankly, Infoman's post has spoiled it for me. 😪
Do think I could learn to drive a bus as a consolation prize, or is that not possible either?? 😪

What about mobile homes? They're pretty big.

I've always fancied driving a truck.

Think I may have missed out...
🙁

Sorry Infoman, I know you are trying to be helpful. blush

Every day is a school day on GN!

I have just ripped up my application to The HGV training Centre. Darn it, that was my seventieth birthday to myself! Perhaps it is for the best.
I wonder..... should I get a motor bike instead? I do like wearing leather. wink

Oh dear that's going to put paid to a few side hustles on Gransnet.
No more HGV driving, maybe try pole dancing instead?

I am 81 and making arrangements to sell my Skoda!!!

Plans being drawn up that if you are over 70 and still drive large lorrys,
you will have to apply for a separate licence to drive C1 and D1 lorrys.
