soop has been in touch. She will not be on GN today, I think, as she is unwell. Please carry on your usual kind chatting. soop was saying yesterday what lovely people you all are.

Have muddled through the day, washing all up to date, feel rather under the weather, but hey ho tomorrow is another day.

DD is feeling the same, so we think it’s hay fever.

OH and his honey,

Ladyleftfieldlover Sun 13-Apr-25 20:08:16

Hello kitchen people.

What a long day! We were up at 6.30 am and at the Car Boot place at 7.45 am. We were there until 11 am. We took 65 jars of honey (we left some at home for ourselves and family) and sold 34 jars. OH had to explain several times that it was REAL honey from bees in hives! Apparently there is a Chinese fake version available.

We are both shattered. I was still worn out from my trip to London yesterday and have mild hay fever and/or a cold.

I think I’ll be in bed by 8.30 on. Sleep 💤 tight.

Super Jax! Well done. Orchids can be so temperamental.

Jaxjacky Sun 13-Apr-25 19:19:44

The orchid, given to me 13 months ago, I’ve dunked it once, otherwise ignored it

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 13-Apr-25 19:08:44

‘Evening All’.

Yes, corner I imagine overwatering won’t suit this plant at all as it seems to thrive on neglect everywhere in sunny Málaga. Nobody is watering the communal areas where it grows! I think it must be the purple leaved variety that is called WJ. I like the pretty pink flowers next to the purple.

We’ve all eaten well. My stepfather and I chose lamb cutlets in a tasty stew with dauphinois potatoes. I enjoyed a large glass of Primitivo. Lush.

Himself has the Grand Prix highlights to watch now. He’s studiously avoided looking at his smartphone in case a strap line appears giving the result! I know of course who won … 🤫

I’m going to sit beside him on the bed (we are in our pj’s) and read my Kindle. I’m enjoying ‘The Survivors’ a novel by Jane Harper (who wrote The Dry) set in Tasmania.

Hi kitchen pals, hope everyone is ok
There’s no sign of rain up here yet Jax although it’s turned much colder again, I needed my jumper when out in the garden earlier
I’ve pottered about for most of the day doing a bit of everything, gardening, washing, cleaning, sorting out etc. I’ve filled a bag for the charity shop and listed a few things on eBay. An easy pasta and roasted veg sauce to eat soon, a glass of wine too as it’s still the weekend 🥂 I had a good catch up call with DS this morning and then DD2 messaged asking if the DGC can stay over here again tomorrow so I’m looking forward to that
Hope everyone in the quiet corner is doing ok, take care all x

Jaxjacky Sun 13-Apr-25 18:49:45

Hi all, we’ve had rain, hurray, the garden is smiling 🙂 I was in a garden centre when there was a heavy burst, very noisy.
No luck in the meat draw, again, friends won two each, good to see the local busy on a damp day.
Other than that, there’s a chicken in the oven and veg are prepped.
Hope your car boot went well llfl empty car boot going home and corner had a great time with her visitors.

FGT, my mum called the green-leaved variety "wandering sailor" as well.

cornergran Sat 12-Apr-25 22:44:48

My Mum loved those plants fgt. Grew like weeds in her home, she always said not to make them too wet and despaired at my attempts to nurture them. Thank you for reminding me, I’ll look out for one next time we’re at a garden centre, it will remind me of her. She died 32 years ago and I still miss her, especially when I’m worried.

Sounds a super day ladylfl, hope you have a dry day tomorrow.

Enjoy your break uttb. The weather won’t matter

Keep looking after yourself blossoming. It takes time to rebuild resilience.

We had a decent day. Wandered a food festival in town and have eaten all sorts of delicious, definitely bad for us, things at odd times in the day. Had a surprise this evening, heard our not so Littlest and his minders are heading this way tomorrow. Their pressurised lives don’t allow it often, we’re very pleased.

Best get some sleep. Goodnight everyone. Sleep tight.

brook2704 Sat 12-Apr-25 22:23:40

Good luck with the car boot sale llfl hope the honey sells well! 🐝

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 12-Apr-25 21:50:32

Hello kitchen people. I had a lovely day in London. The train was on time and the tubes ran well apart from one which was sardine-like. Fortunately I always have a fan and a bottle of water in my rucksack.

I met younger son for a delicious lunch then walked to the King’s Gallery. The Edwardian exhibition was brilliant. Son will go again. Once a ticket has been bought it can be used as often as you like for a year.

I got home around 8 pm and had a bowl of Special K. OH had spent the day preparing for tomorrow’s Car Boot Sale where we will endeavour to sell 80 jars of honey!

Sleep 💤 tight everyone.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 12-Apr-25 20:13:18

🤣😮🤣

Jaxjacky Sat 12-Apr-25 20:03:18

I was a single parent too FGT hussy!!

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 12-Apr-25 19:16:13

You too Jax.

Jaxjacky Sat 12-Apr-25 19:14:44

Hi all, it’s actually got a little chilly here, 14, I’ve closed the greenhouse, we’ve had cloud today, but with no rain 😕
Blossoming it’s good to see you at any time of day.
I used to follow Grand Prix avidly, friends, male at that, here for a full English and fizz when the first race of the season started at 5am, neighbours had a field day!
Read the paper, faffed in the garden and ordered a new purse, now watching Dr Who.
Enjoy your evenings

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 12-Apr-25 19:09:11

Could the variegated leaves plant be given a different ‘name’ do you think Septimia?
🤔

brook2704 Sat 12-Apr-25 18:47:20

Hi kitchen pals, hope everyone is doing ok
I’ve been out all day, a trip into town this morning where we tried out a new cafe, then round to DD2s and finally ending up at the hairdressers. Just getting a risotto ready with salad to eat soon and then nothing else to do
Enjoy your time away with your daughter uttb, the weather doesn’t matter
Blossoming 💐
Love that plant fgt, whatever its name is
Hoping grannmarie and grandmabatty are both doing ok
Take care all x

Septimia Sat 12-Apr-25 18:39:22

I know tradescantia as "wandering sailor", FGT. I have one, inherited from my mum, with similar but varigated leaves.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 12-Apr-25 18:17:08

It would be on Himself’s bucket list too GG13 he loves F1 but sadly we cannot afford it. He always said if we’d won the lottery he’d follow it round for a season! 🏎️

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 12-Apr-25 18:15:17

Back up, fish bought. 😊

GrannyGravy13 Sat 12-Apr-25 18:04:27

Same here FGT2 DH is watching grown up scalectrix

One of my friends was in Japan last weekend for qualifying and race days, I am rather envious as going to a F1 race weekend is on my bucket list.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 12-Apr-25 17:54:56

Tea time here.
Himself is watching the Scalectrix for Adults. I have a few new potatoes in. And some slightly wrinkly tomatoes. We don’t have a freezer and there’s often not much in the fridge as we just pop down into the larder. …

I think I’ll nip down, get some breaded haddock and I think a half bottle of Whispering Angel will elevate the meal spectacularly (for me anyway). Maybe some green peas to add some colour …. 😁

GrannyGravy13 Sat 12-Apr-25 17:46:53

Hi kitchen pals, we have The Imp here for a couple of hours, he is currently eating his dinner.

DH and I are having avocado and prawns for a starter (I know it’s old hat but we like it) then we have steak, English Asparagus and chips.

Love that plant FGT2 👍🏻, regarding inappropriate plant names I always mind your own business either in the garden (contained in a pot) or in the kitchen, it reminds me of my paternal Granny.
