soop has been in touch. She will not be on GN today, I think, as she is unwell. Please carry on your usual kind chatting. soop was saying yesterday what lovely people you all are.

No 21 - looks so much older, because he’s tall, he got Man of the Match from the referee and linesman, very proud we all are too

kittylester Sun 18-May-25 21:44:55

Well done Fin. He is tall.

We also have a netballing daughter and granddaughter Jaxjacky. Not Bertie's mum but one of his aunts.

Grandmabatty Sun 18-May-25 21:50:48

Well done Fin! Motm is an accolade.

Good afternoon all.
I am waiting for Sainsbury’s to deliver so thought I would catch up.
Firstly a word of support to those of you feeling unwell or caring for someone, you have my kindest thoughts and my sympathy.
I am just tired out myself, not a scrap of energy and struggle to rouse myself for any task.
This morning I made celery soup, when it was done it was very salty and remembering the advice to add a potato I sprinkled in some dried potato powder, still salty so I added a little more.
The result,,, celery flavoured mash , still very salty so out it went.
I am no longer domesticated in the slightest.
Me, who used to cook every day and kept a clean and tidy house.
I could live on ready meals amid dust.
This last year has made me realise my age.

The sun has come out after a dull but still warm morning.
I must gird my loins to be able to put the grocery order away.

Take care everyone.

UTBB We've all had disastrous cooking days! Don't be downhearted. I'm glad you have posted though as I've missed you.
My second eye surgery is booked for 13th June and I'm going to have much better vision when I go on holiday. I still can't quite get over the old wumman in the mirror though 😂. I'm waiting for my new coffee machine to be delivered so I have tidied up the kitchen to welcome it. I've hoovered too. Shortly I'll have a cuppa and a biscuit. We've just had a mini shower here- the first actual rain for weeks! Didn't last though.
Pork pie and salad for dinner tonight. Enjoy the rest of your day all.

Usedtobeblonde Mon 19-May-25 15:02:31

Thankyou Grandmabatty now porkpie and salad is my idea of a meal.
Occasionally when I have bought the very small pork pies from M&S I have eaten one in my fingers before the rest of the shopping has been put away.
I am pleased for you that your cataract surgery is successful, my friend had both hers done a few weeks ago and she isn’t at all happy with the result.
Practically everyone else has been delighted and I hope this will be your experience.

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 19-May-25 15:09:04

Hello kitchen people.

I’ve just got back from the rest of my Long term conditions review - a blood test. I had to do the blood pressure check, weight and height at home. How long before we have to do our own blood tests!

OH is playing croquet with the U3A. It makes a change from his Shooting and beekeeping!

Thinking about disastrous cooking - I once made what should have been a delicious soup using left over Christmas dinner. The verdict was that it tasted of nothing at all!

I hope all is going well for the FGT2S and so many others who have difficulties.

Have a good rest of the day.

Blossoming Mon 19-May-25 17:09:17

Good evening dear Kitcheners. MrB took me for a drive up onto the moors, along less traveled highways and byways. We used to go walking there when we were younger. It stayed dry, though cloudy at times. I’m feeling quite tired even though I haven’t done very much!

Wishing you all a peaceful evening, thinking of FGT2 and SueD ♥️

The tower in the photo is Jubilee Tower, built in 1887 to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee. It was the view from my hospital window on clear days and it was so good to see it IRL smile

brook2704 Mon 19-May-25 17:55:51

Hi kitchen pals, it’s been another gorgeous sunny day up here in Inverness
Good to see you here Uttb your cooking sounds like mine some days -it happens to us all
Great picture Jax wow Fin looks so tall! And well done to him for man of the match
Thank you for the picture Blossoming good that you got out and about again today and weren’t looking at that tower from a hospital bed
I had an enjoyable morning volunteering session, a quick trip to DD2s then home for gardening this afternoon. The soil is so dry, just like dust so I’ve resisted moving anything until the rain is due. DH has painted another fence panel and is sorting out our little garden pond that seems to have turned green. A long time ago we used to have fish in it but the heron soon sorted that, these days it serves as a drinking and bathing spot for the local little birds.
Good to have a date for the second Op grandmabatty - good that you got a bit of rain, It’s still blue skies up here
Hope everyone in the quiet corner is doing ok, take care all x

Grandmabatty Mon 19-May-25 18:00:10

Usedtobeblonde I'll be having a couple of mini pork pies with salad and chips. I'm sorry that your friend has had problems with her cataract surgery. Of course, like every surgery, you can have side effects. Blossoming that's an impressive tower.
New coffee machine is in situ and the oven chips are on. I'm feeling cold this evening so might need to change out of shorts and put on warm stuff. Take care all

Redcar Mon 19-May-25 20:28:28

grandmabatty I haven’t got into my shorts yet this year! I did put a skirt on a couple of weeks ago but for the last week we’ve been plagued by a chilly north easterly wind, so I’m still in jeans and jumpers.

usedtobeblonde I’ve had disasters like your soup too, I rarely make it now!

I went shopping this morning, bought a few things and then came home. I intended to drop off a repeat prescription at the local pharmacy but couldn’t park anywhere close to it. I walked there this afternoon instead, so I’m a bit tired now.
Also pulled the old bulbs out of the trough ready to plant the dwarf beans if they ever germinate. I may have to buy some plants when I next go to the garden centre if they have any.
Now watching the Chelsea Flower Show! Some interesting ideas for consideration.
Thinking of the fgts and hoping the procedure has gone well.

Thinking of all those with worries and problems.
Night night.

Grran Mon 19-May-25 22:29:23

Hi everyone
We ‘ve been watching the Chelsea Flower Show this evening. I especially enjoyed the dog friendly garden with a wallow in it for the dogs. Brilliant idea!

Sending positive thoughts to FGT2 and SDonim, and anyone else who needs it really.

UTBB, I hope I am able to give as much love to my family as you do as I get older. Ready meals and simple stuff sounds good to me!

Naughtyneine Tue 20-May-25 08:48:08

FGT2... Thinking of you and himself this morning and hoping that the stent procedure goes well and your DH starts to feel better very soon. X

soop Tue 20-May-25 14:24:36

My special good wishes to ALL our Kitcheners.

My sister's cancer has returned. She has had further surgery but it has spread and nothing more can be done for her. She is 64 (twenty years my junior) and thankfully has a large, supportive family living nearby in Northampton. She may be going home from hospital today. A hospital bed should also be delivered today. Our niece is a gem and has kept us updated since her mother's latest diagnosis was verified. I spoke to my sister last night. She said, "we don't do tears"...so I waited until after we had said goodnight.
We have a standing joke; I was to move in with with her when I became ancient and she was looking after a pair of tartan slippers complete with pom-poms especially for my arrival. She recently added, "the slippers are in the loft. They must be moth-eaten by now!" We have just posted a rag doll wearing Scottish dress - complete with tartan slippers which we know will make her smile.

Yesterday Mr Soop phoned the surgery to enquire whether there was anywhere local from which we could hire a wheelchair. Our family guests will be arriving on Sunday. Having a wheelchair would be very useful when we have outings. Although I have a smart new Rollator (on which I can perch when feeling weary) it does somewhat limit our outings. The surgery phoned to tell us that the Red Cross shop in Campbeltown had a brand new wheelchair, still in polythene, going for a song for sale. We have purchased it. It is too heavy for Mr Soop to lift into and out of the boot but it will be available for us to use when an able-bodied person is accompanying us. Our grandson, a rugby player, will be only too happy to assist. wink

I have discovered a means of doing the teeny bit of ironing that needs attention. I sit on an extra firm cushion on my chair, lower the board as far it will go without collapsing and...hey ho!

A huge, gentle, comforting, all-encompassing group hug is ready and waiting.

Yiayia4 Tue 20-May-25 15:23:00

Bless you Soop thinking of you and Mr Soop.🌻

Great pic Jax. One proud GN.

Hope all went well for MrFGT today, healing thoughts and love to you both.🤞🙏

Good to see you back UTBB,but take it easy.🌹

A hot today today nice to sit on the beach for a while.Yesterday we found a tortoise in the road,we used to see lots but unusual now.DH put it in the bushes by the lake so hope ok.
We leave here on Thursday for a cottage on the beach, about an hour from here.Hope the weather stays like this, a bit mixed at the moment.
DH is enjoying being here although a bit breathless he’s coping very well.
Pics of our tortoise and fav taverna.

Jaxjacky Tue 20-May-25 15:23:38

I’m so sorry to hear that about your sister soop so very young; better news on snapping up that wheelchair, adventures ahead.
utbb I get so impatient these days cooking some things and tend to keep it simple most of the time, I think it’s called lazyitis.
He’s about 5’10” brook but it can be a disadvantage, people forget he’s only 12.
Yesterday was quiet on the voluntary phone, quiz it’s normal fun, we stayed later to help lock the pub down
Beautiful day today, I fear wind and rain may be due Saturday, just when my peonies open their big fat buds.
I’m fingers crossed the op for himself went well this morning and will help him, thinking of him and FGT
There are others struggling too Doodle has had a difficult few days and those kitcheners in the quiet corner are not forgotten.

Grandmadinosaur Tue 20-May-25 16:43:32

So sorry to hear your news soop that’s no age at all. Life can be so unfair at times. Sad as it is though you still have the family visit to look forward to which I hope will help 💐

Hoping all has gone well for MrFGT2 today and of course FGT2 herself. 💐

I’ve turned into a lazy cook too and today with grandson here after school we are going out for a carvery. We promised it to him last week. He usually has packed lunch at school on Tuesdays but had a hot dinner which was all day breakfast. His two favourite meals in one day and he will manage both. He loves his food!

Lovely photos of Corfu Yiayia

Enjoy the rest of your day all.

Grandmabatty Tue 20-May-25 17:19:54

Soop I'm so sorry to hear about your sister. Life can be cruel, can't it? Yiayia what a kind thing to do for the tortoise. Grandmadinosaur enjoy your carvery.
I have been lying on the bed snoozing and listening to audible for a couple of hours. I did a couple of emails this morning for mum's estate and pottered gently. Tonight's dinner will be a curry courtesy of dd. The weather has been sunny after a cloudy start do I think I'll water the pots tonight. Enjoy your evening Kitcheners .

GrannyGravy13 Tue 20-May-25 17:43:02

Sorry to hear the sad news regarding your sister soop 💐

Thinking of FGT2 and himself.

I managed to get an appointment with my own GP today, haven’t seen her for over a year! I have got some really nasty once a day antibiotics, hopefully I will be up and firing on all cylinders in a couple of days.

Signing off 🙋‍♀️

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 20-May-25 18:01:29

Small update following your kind support.
Himself is on the ward overnight. Apparently that’s routine procedure after a stent fitted. I went up on my own to see him at noon. He was in a bit of pain but was hooked up to a drip. Went back up with our youngest daughter at 4pm. He was sipping water but said still in discfort.

We left him in good hands, with his kindle, iPad, phone, earbuds.

Guess what?
He’s just messaged me “no wonder I’ve been in pain they’ve been giving me stuff via the drip for my stomach after the stent was inserted but omitted to give me any pain relief meds! Being hooked up now so things should be easier.”

Crikey! I’ve always known he has a high pain threshold.
He’s gone 8 hours post procedure with no analgesia. 😮
At least he will be more comfortable now. 🤞

Ah soop I feel so much for you and all your family right now. That’s one very brave younger sister you have there. Cancer sucks that’s for sure. It devastates families. Huge hugs. x

Grandmabatty Tue 20-May-25 18:10:21

FGT thank you for updating us. My goodness, your dear man is made of strong stuff. Give him (and you) my very best wishes

brook2704 Tue 20-May-25 18:28:22

So sorry to hear about your sister Soop, I hope having such a supportive family surrounding her helps a bit ❤️

Thank you for the update FGT I hope your DH is more comfortable now and you can relax a bit

It’s been hot and sunny all day here, no sign of any clouds yet. I enjoyed a couple of classes at the gym and then a walk back into town by the river. I sat and watched a heron for a while before it flew away - just sitting quietly by the river is so calming for me, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

That taverna looks perfect Yia I could sit and easily while away a couple of hours there
Hope the antibiotics quickly work their magic GG13 and you feel better soon
Sorry to hear Doodle has also been struggling Jax, sending her a gentle hug and to everyone in the quiet corner x

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 20-May-25 18:29:10

Thank you for the update FGT2… and for your update Soop. I am thinking of you all.

I am now at Paddington waiting for my train. I am exhausted! My study day was fun and I then walked up to the National gallery.

However, here is a photo of the knickerbocker glory I had for lunch. I had a chicken salad too, so wasn’t too greedy!

brook2704 Tue 20-May-25 18:31:00

Goodness Jax 5’10” at only 12, that’s so tall! I thought my eldest grandson was tall, he’s 11 and about 5’4” but he’s a tiddler compared to Fin!
