soop has been in touch. She will not be on GN today, I think, as she is unwell. Please carry on your usual kind chatting. soop was saying yesterday what lovely people you all are.

Jax well done Fin 👏👏

Our friend has just left, I have eaten too much and drunk too much….

Night night 🙋‍♀️

Nannytopsy Sun 18-May-25 21:14:28

Bad luck Fin, but well done to get to the final. Well done in the garden Grandmabatty - I have weeding etc to do this week. Our internet is playing up, taking the TV with it but we can watch recorded programmes we find. Now watching rugby from Friday night. The engineer will be here between 8 and 10 tomorrow morning. Eek!
Hope everyone sleeps well. I may resort to cocodamol tonight, in the hope of sleep.

cornergran Sun 18-May-25 20:16:43

Hello everyone. It’s been a beautiful day here, warm and sunny. Some might say it’s been hot, just warm enough for me smile.

Last of the planting accomplished I told Mr C my idea for the obelisk and he thought it a good one. A bit of a first really, he’s not one to ‘see’ things until the are in situ. I’ll enjoy hunting for a suitable clematis. A wander to the nearest supermarket for two things I’d forgotten and that was it today. Weary bodies are we.

These early waking mornings are exhausting for sure redcar. Hope you manage more sleep tonight. Our montana flowered both sides of the fence, our dog walking neighbour tells me the dog walkers will be disappointed it’s gone. We heard so many comments about it when it was in bloom, we also hear much appreciation for the climbing roses, visible from the footpath. . Daft I know but I’m always chuffed the flowers brighten the day for folks we’ve never met.

I’m a dreadful sleeper redcar, average 5 hours these days. Nope, it’s not enough, no matter what I do I can’t improve it.

I’m delighted you’ll have both eyes fixed very soon grandmab. Hang on to the patience, it will be worth it.

Congratulations to all the sporty grandchildren. If they could share some energy I’d be more than appreciative grin.

Feet up time now. Have a good evening and rest well everyone.

Hello everyone. The sun has finally come out after a grey and chilly day. I was awake at 5 this morning and as I hadn’t gone to sleep until nearly 12, I’m feeling a bit tired now.
I sat with my dementia friend this morning while her DH had his hearing aids checked. They are connected to his mobile phone via Bluetooth I think and he’s somehow found himself ringing friends without meaning to!
Son inlaw 1 came over with the granddaughters this afternoon, DD1 was meeting up with some of her university friends last night and was on her way home. After they’d gone to meet her from the train, I carried on trying to clear the weeds and dead daffodil leaves from the front garden. I need to put some perennials in to fill the gaps, it may rain later this week🤞.

grandmabatty good you have a date for your second cataract operation, and that the timing works out well with your holiday plans.

cornergran we used to have a ‘Montana’ on our fence, it was beautiful but after a couple of years it flowered on our neighbours side of the fence but not on ours! It had to go when we replaced the fence, but I really loved it.

Night night everyone.

Jaxjacky Sun 18-May-25 19:21:31

Grandmabatty so hard doing not much when you’re normally so active, you’ll be pleased when it’s all over, but you will so happy with your sight.
Fin is in the under 12’s kitty .
Both Imogen and my daughter play netball brook weekly if not more often, Imogen recently got contact lenses to help when playing.

Grandmabatty Sun 18-May-25 19:11:54

Good evening Kitcheners. Brook there wasn't too much chaos created! Dgs1 enjoyed using my grabber to pick things up. They visited for an hour or so late morning then left. I really enjoyed seeing them but was surprisingly tired once they'd left and lay down for a while. Dinner was a ham hock gratin with cauliflower cheese. It was nice enough but I'm getting fed up of ready meals.
I got a letter about my second cataract op which will be on 13th June. Friday the thirteenth 😱. It's good timing because I'll have finished the eyedrops in my first eye and will have finished the eyedrops in my second eye before I go on holiday.
I'm currently watching an old film starring Charles Bronson called Mr Majestyk about a melon farmer. It's very good. Dishes are done, the bin is out for tomorrow so I might have an early night. Enjoy your evening Kitcheners

brook2704 Sun 18-May-25 18:53:25

Goodness nannytopsy that’s very thoughtless of her ! I hope you still enjoyed the family weekend though and can relax and recover now

My quiet day didn’t happen as DD2 messaged first thing asking if I could go round to help with sorting things out. Most of her moving boxes are in the right rooms now but not all fully unpacked yet, so we cracked on with that. Also we had a trip to Dunelm to collect some blinds that she’d ordered and a browse around The Range for lighting. All good though, I even resisted the urge to pay for her things at the checkout but then I felt a bit mean!

Well done to Fin Jax, even though they lost today it sounds like they’re doing very well at the top of their league. Both my DGSs in Cambridge play football for local teams but DGS up here focuses more on Basketball which he really enjoys. DGD just loves her dancing!

Hope your DGSs helped alleviate your boredom grandmabatty and didn’t create too much mayhem

I’ve still got my really stuffy nose and frequent sneezing. I think it’s probably hayfever rather than a cold but it’s definitely different this year as it’s usually my eyes that suffer the most. Anyhow I took an antihistamine this morning so I’ll be falling asleep soon
Thinking of everyone in the quiet corner, take care all x

Jaxjacky Sun 18-May-25 18:29:05

Thank you for your good wishes, sadly they lost to a team the league above, but they got to the cup final and came top of their league this season.
Well , travelling and watching that took three hours from the day, then meat draw, nil points there either!!
Just watered as the garden is now in shade, I’ll rustle up dinner.
Really Nannytopsy how rude of her.

Nannytopsy Sun 18-May-25 15:09:24

Afternoon! We have had a full on weekend but now it’s just us two and DD’s dog. She is staying with us for the next few weeks. The family enjoyed themselves and the chaos and stress was mostly caused by DH’s sister and her two dogs. Her parting shot was to empty the last of the milk down the sink because she needed the bottle for water, to wash her windscreen as she left. 🤬 She drove off in blissful ignorance.

Blossoming Sun 18-May-25 15:05:33

A quick visit, good luck to Finley’s team Jax. MrB and I have had a lovely walk down to the river and I’m ready for a nap now grin

kittylester Sun 18-May-25 14:36:33

Have just popped in for a catch-up.

Sending hugs to all with buggerations to manage.

And, good luck to Finley - I hope his team wins, Jaxjacky. Bertie was 13 in January.

gillgran Sun 18-May-25 12:42:19

Count me in for the group hug, always welcome & comforting.
Warm & caring thoughts for you all. x

Grandmabatty Sun 18-May-25 10:56:43

Soop I'm sorry to hear about your buggerations. we embrace you as you embrace us. 🤗
Good luck to Finn this afternoon. Jaxjacky.
I have hoovered and tidied up the kitchen. Then I watered the pots in the garden. I'm sitting down now and awaiting dd and the boys who will create chaos within seconds 😂. I'm really looking forward to seeing them as I am thoroughly bored. Have a good day all

cornergran Sun 18-May-25 07:37:04

Yes, that’s it brook. They are truly beautiful in spring. Lift spirits. We’ve had them in every garden, 8 in all. I knew when I planted it in this garden the space was really too small but felt confident I could keep it in check. The reality is different ten years on. Time for a change sadly. I’ve got my eye on a small - notice small - summer flowering clematis that would grow up an obelisk we already have. Just need to convince Mr C, chief digger of holes.

Back to planting this morning. Two troughs at the front and we’re done well, until we get some compost for the new rhododendron. I love my garden, just need to adapt it for a less able me.

Another beautiful sunny morning here. Shame about a chilly wind but oh so good to see a blue sky.

Look after yourselves everyone, especially folk with personal mountains to climb.

Grran Sat 17-May-25 23:12:34

A gentle group hug sounds just the ticket Soop 🤗
I do hope that you feel better soon.

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 17-May-25 22:22:30

Hello kitchen people. I’m in bed reading a biography of Margaret Beaufort while OH is downstairs watching Eurovision.

I’m so sorry to hear of your buggeration Soop. Hopefully there will be light at the end of that tunnel soon. I’m thinking of the FGT2S too.

We visited another Oxford Arts venue today. We didn’t buy any pictures, just a few greetings cards. We already have three of her prints but she has changed her style this last year. I liked it but OH wasn’t too keen.

Sleep 💤 tight.

brook2704 Sat 17-May-25 21:09:35

Goodness Soop I’m so sorry to hear of your latest troubles, I’ll definitely join you in the gentle group hug 🥰
It’s been another really warm sunny day here, not a cloud in the sky for the entire day. We’ve been in the garden but tbh it was too warm to do much so we went for a walk up to the Battlefield and sat outside in the shade. Lots of tourists, all nationalities and all enjoying the sunshine
Well done with the shopping trip GG13 we don’t really have any big shopping centres nearby so shopping trips don’t really take very long. For anything special we need to shop online
Well Done to Bertie kitty 👍
Hoping Fin wins tomorrow Jax 🤞 Eurovision isn't my thing either but I’m half watching this year only because it’s from Basel and that’s where DS lives!
I think this is a Montana too corner? It looks lovely this time of year, we just cut it back after flowering and it grows back very quickly- luckily it’s not really near anything else so doesn’t get in the way
We’ve very dry soil here too redcar we’ve not had any rain for ages
Thinking of everyone sitting quietly in the corner, take care all x

SueDonim Sat 17-May-25 21:06:25

Good heavens, Soop how can you feel guilty about yourself when your first thought was full of love and kindness towards others? You deserve as much love and care as anyone else. I hope now you have worked out the source of the infection it can be dealt with and you regain a better quality of life. I hope Mr Soop is improving, too.

Many thanks, everyone, for the ongoing care for Dh and me. A big hug to you all, special friends. Xx

Redcar Sat 17-May-25 19:56:32

It’s fortunate you are fairly close to Lakeside grannygravy, so many shops there for little girls to browse! I just hand over the money and let my DDs take their girls shopping, I’d love to take them but I’m a bit slow now.
soop I hope the medication clears the fungal infection quickly and that your digestive system gets back to normal soon, Please don’t apologise for offloading, we all worry about you!
cornergran you’ve had a busy couple of days in your garden.

I did manage to do some gardening today, cleared the flower bed in front of the house of all the old daffodil leaves. The soil is bone dry and will need some attention before I can plant anything. After lunch i partially cleared more of the front garden, which was full of couch grass, bindweed and vetch! I uncovered some irises which were struggling to grow.
More of the same tomorrow perhaps. I’m looking after my friend with dementia in the morning as her DH has an appointment to sort out his hearing aids. Not sure if either of my DDs will come over.

Night night everyone.

cornergran Sat 17-May-25 19:22:25

Goodness soop. No winder you’ve been quiet. Never apologise for being honest. I’m up for a group hug at any time.

We’ve been attempting to put the garden to rights today. Sadly our much loved but totally out of control Montana is no more. We had cut it back yesterday, took ages, looked at it today and realised in another three years it would be just as overgrown and we’d be three years older. Our garden is just too small for it. Decided it had to go. We’ll miss it in the spring for sureu.

Off we went for lunch and returned with a boot full of annuals to plants plus a (reduced) wonderful purple rhododendron whuch will replace a pale pink one which hasn’t flowered this year. I planned to leave the planting until tomorrow and then changed my mind. The back garden is done, just two troughs at the front tomorrow and we’ll look much more bright and cheerful. A quiet evening ahead I think smile.

Our granddaughters have passed on the shopping trips now they are mid to late teens grannyg. They head out with their friends and our contribution to shopping success. I miss those shopping trips, it all moves on for sure.

Have a good evening everyone. Rest well later.

Jaxjacky Sat 17-May-25 19:19:17

Don't you dare apologise soop in the haven you created, let’s hope all returns to normal soon.
Well done Bertie and his team, how old is he kitty? I’m hopeful for tomorrow 🙂
You deserve a medal GG13, you’ll sleep well tonight.
A quiet day, garden pottering, I called in and ordered a bbq pack for BH Monday from the village butcher, two birthday cards posted on the way.
Well done Crystal Palace this afternoon ⚽️
Enjoy Eurovision if you’re watching tonight - not my cup of tea!

Blossoming Sat 17-May-25 18:36:43

Thank you Soop, it is such a relief! I hope your latest treatment can finally help, lovely to hear from you and hope you and your DH can soon be out and about with the new walker.

TOYA ♥️

GrannyGravy13 Sat 17-May-25 17:34:23

soop sorry to hear ]of your continued buggerations 🌸

I survived the shopping trip, my bank balance is considerably lighter, lunch was decided by GD she requested cake and a drink 🍰☕️🥛

We now have The Imp here, DH is playing shops whilst I prepare the little ones dinner, he has announced that he is starving and doesn’t want to wait and eat with us (we eat around 7.30-8)

Well done to your GS kittylester I think I have set a precedent with this birthday shopping, we always give them an amount in premium bonds for birthdays along with something to open GD’s brother has requested very politely if we could take him to the Lego Shop for his birthday, as he is not interested in clothes 😹😹😹

I will sign off now, night night 🙋‍♀️

kittylester Sat 17-May-25 17:22:50

Hope you enjoyed your girly shopping GG. We foolishly started that with DGD1 when she was 5. Now, the 4 girls and 2 of the boys take advantage on their birthdays.

I hope Finley does well in his final, jaxjacky. Bertie's team won 3 - 0 and Bertie was invited to trials with a local Championship team.
soop, I am so sorry you are still suffering and do hope your treatment helps.

soop Sat 17-May-25 16:38:46

Blossoming flowers and a big hoorah!

I have spent so much time in the quiet corner recently and wish to say a very warm welcome to our new Kitcheners. You will always find a wealth of support on this forum.

The fungal infection that kicked off in my throat in February came about after a double dose of antbiotics for a waterworks infection. It was only recently that a swab was taken. The infection has attacked my stomach. I have no appetite and haven't eaten a proper meal for ten days. The stoma bag is full of hard pebble-like stools. So...on with different meds to restore the balance of gut flora. Knowing what so many of you lovely lot are dealing with, I feel ashamed to feel the need to offload. Anyway, thank you for listening.
