soop has been in touch. She will not be on GN today, I think, as she is unwell. Please carry on your usual kind chatting. soop was saying yesterday what lovely people you all are.

Grran Fri 16-May-25 12:16:31

Just looking in to see how everyone is. Sorry to hear of such struggles, especially The Soops, SueD& Mr Sd and FGT2&Himself.

My fingers are crossed for you all for easier times ahead.
Take care everyone 💐

SueDonim Fri 16-May-25 12:09:37

flowers for such difficult times, FGT. The Christie sounds very proactive and giving Mr FGT the best chance. Xxx

I am sorry others are going through the mill too, be it ill-health, family issues or outside causes. Life certainly throws marbles under our feet at times.

Dh is ok today. Not brilliant but could be worse, so we are grateful for that. The weather is absolutely splendid, no complaints on that score.

TOYA, even though I’m not mentioning names very much. Xxx

Redcar Fri 16-May-25 11:51:46

fgt I hope next week’s procedure goes well and that any further treatment is successful. Thinking of you both. flowers

merlotgran Fri 16-May-25 11:42:09

Just quickly popping my head around the door to wish FGT and her DH all the best with the forthcoming treatment.

Good old Christie!

Usedtobeblonde Fri 16-May-25 10:52:45

Tough times FGT but things are being done and hopefully will give relief to your H and to you.
The Christie is indeed a wonderful place.
I had radiotherapy there 25 years ago now and was under their watchful eye for a further 13.
I took part in research for them as I responded unusually to radiotherapy.
My next door neighbour and the neighbour next to him have both received treatment there in the last year, both of them for the second time their cancers having returned, both currently doing well.
I wish you the very best for the weeks and months to come.
Your positive attitude is getting you through.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 16-May-25 09:53:40

Hello everyone.

Yesterday the Prof said Himself is to have a permanent oesophageal stent fitted urgently next week as he can’t swallow other than liquids - so as he told us “it’s a no brainer” now. Following that, the plan is another CT scan and back on iv chemotherapy if indicated. It’s been so sudden it’s a shock but we are slowly coming to terms with it all thanks to the wonderful support of the Christie.

Thank you all very much for the kindness and good wishes. Your cheering us on from the sidelines means a lot to me. I plan a period of quiet reflection in the hope our situation improves soonest. x

Hello kitchen people.

So many sad tales in the kitchen tonight. I am so sorry the Soops are having such a difficult time and it’s worrying not to hear from FGT2.

I had a pedicure today and then cancelled my U3A talk. I have felt so tired. I managed to listen to a lecture on Trafalgar Square. At least it was OH’s turn to cook dinner!

Sleep 💤 tight.

Georgesgran Thu 15-May-25 20:54:18

It’s lovely to hear from you soop but so sorry to hear of your frustrations/buggerations.

Chemo is scary sueD but hopefully the means to an end. You’d swap places, I’m sure.

Hope the FGTs have had meaningful discussions at the Christie.

Goodnight all. X

Redcar Thu 15-May-25 20:44:20

Oh dear soop more buggerations for you to deal with. Hopefully the steroid cream will clear the infection. As for the hospital not catering for patients residing in your location, you really couldn’t make it up could you? I hope your gp can come up with some sort of solution for you. Your new rollator sounds useful!

sueD being unable control your lives is so frustrating and worrying isn’t it. I do hope that the effects of the chemo aren’t too awful.

utbb I’m sorry you’ve been poorly and that your life is still so challenging. I’ve missed your posts and hope that things improve for you soon.

brook I hope your new sofa will be sorted out soon, what a good thing you were able to retrieve the old ones from the garage!

blossoming well done for your decluttering! Would you like to come and help me? I need to cull my shoes, I have loads of pairs, most of which don’t fit properly but can’t bring myself to get rid of them. I live in trainers now so most shoes are redundant!
I spent a chilly day at DD1s keeping the dog company. I had a long conversation with a friend of my godmother and now have the task of trying to persuade an elderly, very stubborn and independent lady, that the time has come to accept some help with some household tasks!
My dear sis in law, who would have helped me, is in hospital herself at the moment!

Have a peaceful evening everyone - I may have another sleepless night worrying about both my sis in law and my godmother….

GrannyGravy13 Thu 15-May-25 20:17:50

Dear soop hopefully your buggerations are in decline 😘

We have the 10yr old here for his weekly sleepover, he has been fed, watered, showered and homework completed.

DH and I had a successful shopping trip earlier, cases for us, trousers for him, skincare for me.

SueD 🌸

I am signing off as it’s bedtime story 🙋‍♀️

cornergran Thu 15-May-25 20:10:26

You’re right grandmab I’m not pleased with you grin. Pacing will be your friend for a while.

Buggerations inceed soop. The new rollator sounds to be horizon expanding. A real positive. Good to know. No breaking speed limits please grin.

Out of control is very scary sued. My love to you both. A gentle hug coming your way and to uttb. Life can be challenging for sure.

It’s been cooler here today. Mr C blamed me for insisting he used sun screen. Maybe not your toes jax. grin.

We’ve been out and about again today. A very calm and attractive woodland garden. A bit too rough underfoot for me at times, Mr C is fortunately skilled at catching, all worth it though. I’ll try for a photo. Willi manage it? Watch this space.

Happy double birthday to your husband and son nannyt. A fun weekend ahead.

Best be off. Time my feet were up. Hoping Mr and Mrs FGT are comfortable at home.

Have a good evening everyone.

brook2704 Thu 15-May-25 19:48:30

Sorry to hear of your problems soop hoping things improve a bit soon.
SueD sending ❤️
Hope you feel a bit better soon uttb
You sound very well organised for the weekend nannytopsy, well done and a very Happy Birthday to your DH and DS
Well of course Jax! The scrumptious new velvet sofa set was delivered, it looks beautiful, it feels so soft and comfy and the colour is perfect. Unfortunately 2 legs are missing, 2 clips to attach one piece to another are missing so it’s looking rather lop sided and sorry for itself .. I’ve phoned the company who are so apologetic but I’m not sure how quickly they will send and fix the missing parts. So it’s back to square one, old sofas have been retrieved from the garage and back in the lounge for a while 🙄
Please don’t get your toes painted again Jax until the autumn

Jaxjacky Thu 15-May-25 19:25:20

Grandmabatty naughty step for you and sit still!
Blimey soop it’s never ending, pleased to hear you have wheels, a beacon of joy amongst the buggerations.
SueD not being in control is so soul destroying and scary, big hug for you both and another for utbb
Very dynamic Blossoming you deserve to be smug along with Nannytopsy, to whom I wish happy family birthdays and a glorious weekend.
A busy afternoon here in cloudy and quite cool S Hampshire, I’m sure having my toes painted has caused the meteorological decline 🙂 Library visited and I collected a set of used golf clubs for my son.
I thought I’d find you lounging in an elegant manner * brook*
FGT ❤️

Nannytopsy Thu 15-May-25 19:00:34

soop I’m very sorry to hear about your latest buggerations. I do hope you can get sorted before much longer. How kind of MrS to buy an all terrain rollator! Good luck with getting out and about.
DS was born 40 years ago yesterday (where did that go ??) and DH is 70 today so this weekend is their 110th party. I hope it’s a bit warmer tomorrow and Saturday. The fridge and freezers are full, the drinks cupboard is overflowing and cakes are baked. The house is spotless and all beds are made. Just some cooking tomorrow morning. @smug Nan!
I hope all is well for FGT
X

GrannySomerset Thu 15-May-25 19:00:17

Good to hear from you, Soop, even though the news could be better. Do hope you have more support soon and meanwhile I am glad the garden is such a source of joy.

gillgran Thu 15-May-25 18:52:19

Oh dear, soop, more "buggerations" for you to cope with. Although you continue to manage in your stalwart way.
We all think of you & I'm sure we would like to hear your son's take on the topic of "b's"!
Your new rollator sounds ideal, I hope you are able to get out & about with it.

SueD, thinking of you & your DH, difficult times.

I hope you soon improve Usedtobeblonde, it just seems one thing after another, doesn't it.

My warm thoughts for all in this friendly kitchen, especially those with extra worries & problems just now.

I do like to stay in touch, albeit mostly from the comfort of the quiet corner. x

Usedtobeblonde Thu 15-May-25 17:59:12

Oh SueDonim how much I empathise with not being in control.
That is my default mode now.
I hope your DH gets some help and improvement from the chemo.
My life still is extremely challenging from several directions.
All family oriented.
I have had a nasty chest infection for the last couple of weeks, now finished the antibiotics but no real improvement, I shall get in touch with the surgery again.
I do read even when not posting and send my very best wishes to you all especially those caring and being cared for.

SueDonim Thu 15-May-25 17:26:31

We’re just back from dh’s first chemo session. It was exhausting for us both, he because he’s the patient and me because there’s so much to take on board. I hate not being in control of our own lives.

soop Thu 15-May-25 17:09:59

Sunny afternoon greetings to you lovely lot.

I have no wish to bore you senseless with my numerous buggerations. Suffice to say that the GP has now confirmed that a fungus is responsible for the sore throat/nausea problems since February. I've developed fungal skin rashes underneath the hernia. Steroid cream should fix it. As for being told in March that I was to be referred to a Glasgow hospital to be measured for a bespoke garment to support the bulging hernia...after six phone calls, most of which entailed being in a long list of patients also wishing to speak to a real person, I was told that the hospital to which I had been referred "did not cater for patients residing in our location". Our GP was most sympathetic. We now await for the next chapter to unfold. Sorry to bang-on. One day I shall share an email from my son on the topic of buggerations. It me laugh out loud. Mr Soop has treated me to a super new rollator with robust tyres that negotiate rough surfaces. This means that I should be able to take walks across rough terrain.

I apologise for being absent without leave. Thank goodness that our Kitcheners rally around those of you who need kindly support.

Enjoy the sunshine. We would like it to last until youngest son and family visit us on Sunday week.

All good wishes and bless you all. smile

brook2704 Thu 15-May-25 16:24:06

Hi kitchen pals, it’s a gorgeous sunny day up here in Inverness, just with a slight breeze so it’s lovely sitting out
Beautiful pictures Scalpa1 how cute are those cygnets, I hope the heron has stayed away
We’ve been waiting in all day for a new sofa delivery, sadly there’s been a serious road traffic accident nearby so that’s delayed everything but I believe they’re on their way now
I’ve been pottering in the garden, it’s all looking colourful just now with lots in flower. I also did a bit of housework, mopping and cleaning but nothing too strenuous of course 😀
Grandmabatty I hope you’re sitting down and behaving
Well done with your decluttering Blossoming, you’re much better than me at it. I tend to move things from one box to another with usually very little ending up in the rubbish pile. I must get better at it. Hoping all goes well with your appointment tomorrow
Thinking of soop, SueD, fgt and everyone in the quiet corner, take care all x

Blossoming Thu 15-May-25 15:43:25

Good afternoon dear Kitcheners. Today I have been sorting and decluttering the bathroom storage unit. I have got rid of 2 big bagfuls of rubbish, half used tubes and bottles and found some things I haven’t seen since I was rushed off to hospital in March. Everything is looking much better, the water flosser is on charge and there’s a bag of rubbish by the front door, which MrB will take out to the black bin later. I’m worn out now! I feel good though at achieving something. I’ll be fit for nothing tomorrow grin. Fortunately the only thing on the agenda for tomorrow is an ultrasound kidney scan in the afternoon.

Thinking of FGT2 and her DH.

Love to you all ♥️🌹

Grandmabatty Thu 15-May-25 15:01:55

Doune is lovely too. I haven't been there for a while. It used to have a lovely antique centre which I could spend a fortune in!,

Scapa1 Thu 15-May-25 13:28:32

Grandmabatty it is Doune Ponds in Doune which is a lovely area and gentle walk about 4miles away from us. Glad you are having a quiet afternoon.
