Meghan’s April Fool?

From The Tines this morning
Imagine if I told you I was giving you something “in keepsake packaging that you can repurpose to tuck away love notes or special treasures, and to remember this pivotal moment with me”. You would look at me strangely and ask if I should perhaps seek specialist medical help, and you would be right. And if I then told you that this keepsake packaging could be used as a “small bud vase for flowers on your nightstand or to hold pens on your desk”, could you guess what it was ?
A vintage piece of pretty china, say? Big reveal: it's a jam jar^

Whouda thunk?
Using an old jam jar for pencils? (Who uses pencils?)
Personally I put mine through the dishwasher and re use them for the next batch of raspberry jam -sorry, spread

On bedrooms:
oh goodness, I didn’t know there were rules! In our family it has been much more pot luck. In one house DS had the biggest bedroom in the house, DD had a room in the attic and then took over the spare room too so she had two rooms. When guests stayed everyone moved around of course.

On jam jars: I noticed that Meghan’s chosen jars are those ones with the annoying corners that hold on to the last scraps of any jam/spread/pickle. Prefer round jars myself.
I might steal her idea of numbering the jars though like art prints! I wonder if there will be competition to get 1/10.

The smaller bedroom was probably about 20ft x20ft anyway.

We’re not talking three bed semi here😬

Yes, Harry has always been the ‘spare’, but is that so dreadful?

All the privileges, but not the responsibilities.

And being the ‘baby’, often indulged more than the first child.

How often in ‘Spare’ did we read about Charles addressing him as ‘darling boy’ whenever he spoke to him? I bet William wasn’t called that.

H&M could have led a very privileged, interesting, worthwhile life over here if they had not ‘flounced’, and would probably have ended up as very popular members of the RF.

And thereby hangs a tale….

In my extended family a two child family of a boy and a girl, the girl got the bigger bedroom (which benefitted me grin ). In families with two same sex children the eldest got the bigger bedroom. In my house the two oldest shared a bedroom, likewise the two youngest. Perhaps that's why they've all always been good about sharing anything.

^Even his brother had the bigger bedroom^ The older child getting the bigger bedroom, may be less common now, but it was certainly very common until recently. As an older child I benefitted from this at times.

A younger sister had the bigger bedroom in this house.
We do like to challenge the norm 😁

True eazybee Princess Anne wasn’t even the spare no matter second born. Dukes of Kent and Gloucester have done much supporting the late Queen, one uncle and one a cousin, Edward
the same. Harry wants to be centre of the universe

eazybee Sat 05-Apr-25 19:31:37

If Harry had had the slightest interest in his family history he would have known that George V1, his great grandfather, was born Prince Albert and a spare, until Edward V111 abdicated. He very reluctantly become King and did the job extremely well without any preparation, but he had a very happy marriage to support him.
Harry has not the slightest idea about duty.

Anniebach Sat 05-Apr-25 18:37:56

Smileless it has always been his ‘get out of jail card’ which I why I spoke of it earlier. Since he resigned the. news channels
Have all said how devastated he must be because it was formed in memory of his mother. He didn’t visit there for six years due to his engagement etc I really don’t want to be unkind but I do
dislike his dramas.

Smileless2012 Sat 05-Apr-25 18:00:25

I'm not sure he'll get any sympathy over Sentebale Annie if there's any truth in the accusations unless simply being Harry is a 'get out of jail free card'.

Anniebach Sat 05-Apr-25 17:30:00

Harry’s life has always been, Harry loved his mother, Harry is a grieving child, a grieving teenager, a grieving young man, a grieving approaching middle age man , so it goes on, he really plays the victim card. He will gather sympathy over Sentebale ,
it works every time for him

ViceVersa Sat 05-Apr-25 16:23:58

Yes, that's very true.

Anniebach Sat 05-Apr-25 15:57:15

Yes, all second in line had to accept it. He was not treated with less interest by the public, he chose to leave but still wanted the
attention

ViceVersa Sat 05-Apr-25 15:52:34

Harry was referred to the 'spare' from the moment he was born. Diana had done her duty producing 'an heir and a spare'. It's hardly surprising if he has a bit of a complex about that. Imagine spending your life knowing that you were little more than a spare part...

Anniebach Sat 05-Apr-25 15:48:02

He was certainly valued by the public, by charities, and he loves the camera, could he have been content without, I doubt it, he is angry about his brother being heir and he being the spare as he choose to call himself. Even his brother had the bigger bedroom

Would he had been happy just being ‘one of the troupes ’

I expect he would have been happy 'as one of the troops', but as it was, he was an officer, a helucopter pilot and seems to have been liked and respected by those he commanded.

He would probably have gone up a few more ranks, full or half colonel, possibly, even a brigadier, but I doubt he would have gone further. But I think he would have had a happier life, valued for what he did and not who he was.

Anniebach Sat 05-Apr-25 12:00:17

Yes Lathyrus

Grandma70s how to cook pasta, and who cooks with raspberries without eating one or two or more

Good point Lathyrus3

Grandma70s Sat 05-Apr-25 11:44:21

I have read very little about Meghan. I don’t read newspapers any more. I’ve seen her on tv and online, though, and I instinctively dislike her. She seems to me to have an incredible lack of self-awareness. The whole ‘cookery’ thing and her promotion of her very ordinary condiments is just absurd. And the name -As Ever - what is that supposed to mean? It doesn’t make sense.

Lathyrus3 Sat 05-Apr-25 11:25:48

I think it was unwise to make Meghan a central figure in both his charities. After all she has no official standing as a trustee or any other position within Sentebale or Invictus, and her prominent presence at events does seems to have caused some problems at both of them.

After all no other patrons or trustees have involved their wives or husbands in presentations of cups or giving speeches so I think a Chair would be justified in asking why a non member was given such prominence.

I also think it was noise to have a Board of Trustees made up of personal friends of the patrons and again can see how it could have been difficult to get the Board to discuss the impact that leaving Britain and subsequent publicity might have had on funding sources.

The whole Board has resigned which sounds alarm bells, but after they had collectively been reported to the Charity Commission by the Chair.

I await the report with interest.

Harry would have struggled with furthering his career in the army once his active service was over as he has a poor academic record.

There is more to enjoying a career than making great progress. Prince Harry certainly did not have a Field Marshall baton in his back pack, but that is no reason to have stopped him having an enjoyable career in the army. I mean that does not stop most people enjoying their work.

Anniebach Sat 05-Apr-25 10:23:38

He did, however, give a spectacular car-crash of an interview which must have been hugely embarrassing for his family, I would have thought.
