Does Meghan not realise that people have been using empty jam jars for other purposes for a very long time. My dad used to soak paint brushes in jam jars. I used a jam jar for paper clips when I was working. My sister stored cotton wool balls in one.

I went on a visit to a waste incinerator. The visit included a talk on recycling. We were told very firmly always to put the lids back on containers, even when they were made of different materials. Something to do with size and weight and where in the process they would be sperated.

My mixed dry recycling takes the lids as long as they're separate from the jars not screwed on.

What is a 'pivotal' moment? I know a pivot is something something is balanced on, but giving someone a jar wrapped in pretty paper is hardly pivotal!

I’ve started buying everything in the smallest jars I can find as I only have a small fridge. I wish more things were sold in smaller sizes as I ‘m always having to throw out condiments that need keeping in the fridge even though I use them for far longer than the instructions tell me to. As part of my de cluttering I’m going to go through my vast collection of glass jars. I can never throw away a pretty one and I do use non pretty ones to decant paint into. What do I do with the lids; do they go into recycling, too?

My jam jars go to the recycling bin. Not that I eat much jam. Often it's wearing a fur coat by the time I decide to have some.

I used to use Nutella jars as glasses when the children were little.

I put a drop of water in mine and use as an ash tray when I have a sly cigarette at the back door. No need to wash out before use. Stick the lid back on when I’m done and throw in the bin.

My jam jars go to the recycling bin. Not that I eat much jam. Often it's wearing a fur coat by the time I decide to have some.

Will they elevate ?

I use Bonne Maman jam and always put the pretty jars and checkered lids into the dishwasher for re-use. Too nice to bin.
