Look at holidays for solos. Some big companies do them (eg Riviera) and there is also a company called Solos..

I travelled on multiple trains recently.
Like you, midweek and middle of the day, mainly. it kept the cost down a lot, and used my senior railcard.

But I agree that it is the accomodation part that is difficult to find cheaply.
A relative stayed in a air b&b, but it didnt seem that cheap to me.

I always used to think I would go on bus tours like my single elderly relatives did, if I was widowed.

But they dont seem cheap any more?

I need my own room, when travelling, and really resent single supplements - often up to £50 extra per night and far too often means that I am stuck in some tiny room, with a single bed overlooking the bins!!!

I do use Premier Inn as at least there I know get a double bed, and a good sized room - we pay by the room there. Their Accessible rooms are excellent with a lower bed, and usually, a wetroom.

Have you considered a cruise?
I know a lot of cruise lines these days have a selection of very reasonably priced single cabins.

Many, particularly on newer ships have windows and I believe some also have balconies.

A very inexpensive, enjoyable way to see the world!

Failing that, I have seen lots of adverts for holiday companies which cater specifically for solo travellers.

I am a widow and live alone. Whilst I do travel with family or friends sometimes I am very happy to travel alone. However the ludicrous amounts charged for single supplements both annoys me and puts me off , which is a shame. I understand that b/bs or hotels or whatever need to make the most of their rooms etc, but they can be a little shortsighted.

As I am alone I can go when and where I please and at the drop of a hat. So I am happy , and indeed prefer to travel midweek and avoid the weekends. If I find somewhere I also return there and sometimes bring other people with me. I also much prefer travelling outside school holidays. Yet these days the costs seem to be astronomical for single travellers.

I have done quite a lot of staying in hostels pre covid and am quite happy to do that too. As my back is painful, I am often up and off early . Used to be happy camping in my tent, but due to my back cant do that any longer. Even looked into buying a campervan style thing, as have driven a bus so no worries about the driving. But the prices also too much.

Have had a couple of good trips with an acquaintance, who also lives alone and we had a good trip to Barcelona and shared a room but did our own thing. It worked out very well we shared one meal and one coffee in the week, and enjoyed our own things but kept the cost down by going as a couple.

I only really need a clean bed and a shower, have done quite a bit of farmhouse b/b s in the past. Anyone else got any good ideas of ways to get around at a reasonable price?
