Black Pudding anyone?

So, DH was passing a Big Morrisons the other day. Knowing they sell GF black pudding I asked him to get me a stick.

As he was leaving home, I had a sudden thought that he might also see some plastic plant pots so asked him to get some of those too.

A while later he rang and asked how many I wanted. I asked for 4.

Can anyone use the 3 spare gf black pudding sticks I have in the fridge?

And, does anyone have any plastic plant pots I can have?

I always freeze it and get it out a few hours before I cook it for DH, it's always fine, if I forget to get it out , I give it a blast on defrost in the microwave for 1 minute and that always defrost it enough to cook it. DH likes white pudding too, which you can get sometimes in our local Morrison's or the butchers in a local garden centre.

My Mum grew up in rural Ireland. She often reminisced about when her father would slaughter a pig to feed the family and she said nothing went to waste. Rashers and chops for the frying pan and joints of bacon to boil in a pot over the open fire. All served up with potatoes and cabbage from their veg field.

But her favourite was my grandmother stirring in oatmeal and spices into a bucket of the pig’s blood to make delicious black pudding. She told this to my daughter when she was a child and she felt 🤢

My late mother adored Black Puddings.
A gleam used to come into her eyes at the thought of pig's blood that she believed to be an ingredient of the pudding. Don't know if that's true or not.
I can't abide them.

Yes of course. It's famously made with pig's blood, mixed with various spices. France and Spain have their own versions too and they're all pig's blood based.

Thanks , Flappergirl. Good to know.😊

If I didn't write things down my husband would come back with everything but what we needed. Funny enough when he went shopping he always spent more than when I was with him .

He was a bugger though. He went to the chemist get a packet of Always for me . The assistant wanted to wrap them up he asked why she said in case he was embarrassed. He walked out the chemist holding the packet in the air saying my wife's on her period. Nothing embarrassed him .

But everytime I went into hospital had to write down instructions what went into each wash and what setting on the washing machine.

Work wise he could remember jobs he did years ago but home life he relaxed and forgot simple things . But he was a wonderful husband and father .

Yes please and....served up on the middle of a bread roll. 😉

I mean, did you have to say that?🤮
Black pudding, shudder.
Look, just plant them and see what grows Kittylester 😄

I wasn't having a go at DH - we had crossed wires.

The cauliflower that turned out to be a cabbage 😁

I do have to write everything down everything very carefully if DH goes shopping!

😂 My dh once came home with pork mince when I’d clearly written beef. ‘I thought it was beef,’ he said, all injured.

Ditto the joint of pork when I’d written GAMMON.
I have had to emphasise that READING LABELS PROPERLY might be a good idea.

Most extreme though was when he came back from a big Asda saying they had no loo cleaner.
‘No, none at all! Yes, of course I looked properly!’

Nowadays (not being a good ‘looker’) he’ll ask if he can’t find something.

Sorry, kittylester, I live too far away to relieve you of your tasty burden.

I once gave DH a list for the local fruit and veg shop. It said 3 pears but DH and shopkeeper found it hard to read my writing so he brought home 3 lbs of fresh peas in their pods!!

Fried with bramley apple slices, yummy

That sounds lovely, karmalady. I do a dish which involves pork medallions with black pudding, but now I'm wondering if I could incorporate apple slices into that too.

I wondered that, too, Allira.

Her post about it would definitely have been funnier than mine!

Is he related to dear phoenix's DH by any chance?

DH would take the black pudding off you, kittylester and cook it himself.

Ilovedogs22 Wed 09-Apr-25 14:26:18

Black pudding!!!
I'd rather eat my own toenails.
I'm a vegan married to a man whose family owned a chain of butchers shops! 😶

Hellogirl1 Wed 09-Apr-25 13:59:32

If my hubby was still around, he`d be snatching your hand off for the black puddings! He came from near Bury, where they originated, and loved his black pudding, I hated it!

Ah, two things at the same time kitty that’s the problem!

That made me laugh, jaxjacky.

Squiffy Wed 09-Apr-25 10:36:38

My DH must be your DH’s twin, Kitty! 🙄😆 Even when you think it’s impossible to misunderstand something he’ll somehow manage to!

GF sticks are only small and have a use by date of September so I have time to freeze them if we don't eat them quickly, but.....grin
