So the rest of us get no say in this? Sounds pretty disgusting to me, playing God.

You are so right. How very dare 'they' decide to do this - well, it's been going on for a while anyway.
It's a crime and the UK should be ashamed.
Remember that Simpson's episode where billionaire Monty Burns tried to block out the sun?
The Simpson's could see what was coming. Gran's are OK, we wont be here to cope with the effects of this. angry

We don't het enough sun as it is, but Old lady Nature will have the last word a nd it won't be pretty.

I think it was pointless posting links to reputable articles.

I think almost nobody reads them.

Don't mess around with our sunshine, I take vitamin D even in summer.

undines Thu 24-Apr-25 14:03:05

For goodness sake they have been meddling with the weather for years! What do you think all those weird clouds are? Now it's got so obvious the Guardian have printed it. As for Net Zero, it is being pursued for the profit of the companies involved, the need for it based on disputed science that has been pronounced 'settled' by those in power/vested interests. Meanwhile we are importing coal from here and there and polluting everywhere, and politicians are jetting off for 'Climate Summits', filling everyone with fear, even telling us we've had the warmest month (February, was it?) on record, while we were all freezing. Vines grew in Northumbria in Roman times, the earth has flourished with carbon levels far higher than at present. PLEASE wake up, before it is too late, do not trust the current narrative, for the sake of our grandchildren.

Shall I hold fire on the A/C unit that I have been contemplating buying?

No, air cons help people with cooling, dust and pollens.

Wouldn’t it be easier to step up carbon capture?

Or are we passed the point of no return?

I suspect the latter.

Well, I would have thought working on carbon capture and having a ban on cutting down rainforests for our own selfish reasons would be better.

Positives not negatives are what we need. Ways to stop pollution, ecological alternatives to plastics and ways to rid the seas of plastic.

When scientists thinking they can control the world with something like this, disaster could follow.

Scientists invented the atomic bomb
The petrol engine
Plastic

Genius sometimes verges on madness.

Definitely go ahead with the purchase.
Even if climate change doesn't exist or if God breezes in with His way to get around it you'll still need an A/C to cool the hot air coming out of GB News and the Telegraph.

Churchview Thu 24-Apr-25 09:34:07

A quick search on this shows it's the usual spin from GB News and the Telegraph, picked up by some local news channels.

Hazily reporting funding for research into climate change (as there is for hundreds of different subjects) and the usual load of vague comments of 'perhaps', 'potentially' and 'according to' sounds more like stirring culture wars than intelligent journalism.

God can always get around anything anyway.

But I am annoyed that "Uk scientists" are even going to try and do such a thing.

Grammaretto Thu 24-Apr-25 09:14:17

It is real unfortunately theWeirdo you just need to look at the terrifying number of skin cancers in Australasia and floods and fires worldwide.

I am grateful to these scientists who
are at least trying to find ways to counteract some of the damage we have caused.
Humans have always tampered with nature ever since the first fence was put around a field and probably long before that.

Here's some info - Cambridge for example is receiving some money for computer modeling

It is all about controlling others. In my opinion.
In any way that the masses will accept.

fancythat Thu 24-Apr-25 09:07:53

What about those of us who dont believe that?

We are supposed to take everything that is forced upon us by eco people?

Skydancer Thu 24-Apr-25 09:06:17

Some scientists believe we only have around 200 years before total ecological collapse. So something has to be tried.

fancythat Thu 24-Apr-25 09:05:53

Uk citizens are supposed to be short of Vit D.

But I suppose we are all supposed to pop a pill, courtesy of the pharmaceutical industry.

NotSpaghetti Thu 24-Apr-25 09:04:30

I expect solar farmers are a mixed bunch and should at least be focused on climate change. As it's not intended as a long term solution maybe not too bothered.

TheWeirdoAgain1 Thu 24-Apr-25 09:02:03

HA HA HA, I'm killing myself laughing here!

The only ''dim'' ones are the ''scientists'' that must be so utterly bored that they can't think of anything more productive to do and all for ''global warming'' which I personally don't think is a real 100% emergency as it's been happening basically since our world was first formed when the entire planet was erupting with lava then taking millions of years to cool down!

Got to keep laughing!

NotSpaghetti Thu 24-Apr-25 08:59:24

Support for this research is growing - basically it's an emergency measure - because humanity is not doing enough fast enough to reduce carbon emissions to forestall severe and worsening climate impacts.

We are just a small part of an international "rescue" possibility.

It's not a solution- it's trying to hold back climate change.

There are a number of articles, the UK is expected to be allowed to start experimenting with “sun dimming”.
50m has been granted, this is apparently all for the long term greater good of our planet.
So they use cloud seeding to deliver rain and now wish to control the sun.
When will they learn, you cannot mess with Mother Nature.

Wonder how the solar farmers feel about this!
