A quick morning all from West Oxfordshire.

I’m attending a lecture at the local Arts Society this morning.OH will drive me there and pick me up later. Not ideal, but parking at the venue is abysmal! I once parked at the nearby Waitrose not realising they had reduced the free parking time - I had a £40 fine!

This afternoon I will be mainly smashing up crockery! It is my birthday tomorrow and I am doing a mosaic workshop! They will provide broken crockery but suggested bringing some along if we wanted . I popped in several Charity shops the other day and bought a few things.

Yes, such good news from FGT. I bet they’ll be whizzing off soon to the sun!

Have a good day.

Good morning from a dry and bright NE.
SIL and I did the shopping and managed a little walk after lunch, much needed exercise but my hips were extremely painful.
Today I am expecting a delivery, new hub from BT.
Pleased to hear you had good news FGT.

Jaxjacky Fri 25-Apr-25 07:17:01

Morning from a grey, but dry, S Hants.
Yesterday I had more plants to get in our garden, another acer and three hardy fuschia, pleased to see 100% germination on my parsnips too, I’m hoping for the forecast rain tomorrow.
Today is a challenge, I have phone calls to EE and Sky as contracts are near their end, good job it’s pub night!
Brilliant news from FGT.
Others are still climbing their hills.

brooke your trip to London sounds very interesting. Enjoy the river trip to Greenwich, I went to school in Greenwich many years ago, but didn’t appreciate how lovely some of the buildings are! More recently both DDs lived there until a few years ago, when they moved away from London to be nearer to us.

Redcar Fri 25-Apr-25 07:09:27

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s bright with high cloud at the moment, hopefully that will clear soon and we’ll have a sunny day.
Yesterday I went to DD1’s to keep her dog company while she and her DH were in the office. I also had a podiatrist appointment so was driving a bit more than usual.
The washing machine is churning round this morning and I’ll be able to hang it out to dry today.
I need to pick up my meds from the pharmacy so that will be my walk for today. I need to sort out the cupboard under the sink, I don’t know what’s in there, and don’t use most of it, so it might as well go! Several other cupboards also need to be look into, but this may all take some time.

bellasnana your days with your grandsons sound very energetic!

So pleased to read fgt’s news on the soop thread.

I can’t believe it’s Friday again, time is certainly flying along!
Have a good day everyone.

Good morning Mick and all GN's on a still rather grey morning in North Yorkshire.

Have been awake for hours, partly the usual wretched aches and pains but not helped by thoughts of this mornings dentist appointment. Have found small cushion to take with me - their chair is always bad for my back, stressing out doesnt help I know. Anyway I have the earliest appointment, which is good, as I cant think past this in any coherent way.

At least my bed was clean and comfortable last night, and the bedroom does look a bit neater for the general tidying up. With the weather we have been having , the wardrobe is rather a mess with warm and cool trousers etc etc, and for the last few days have definitely needed two sets of clothes, with frosty mornings needing jumpers and midday t shirts. So it is no good trying to pack anything away as ,of course ,the following day it would be something I need.

Today, once I get the dentist over, I plan to get a bit of shopping, including some picnic stuff, check my car over, for fuel and all my bits and pieces box for picnics etc, as I hope to go off for my first sortay into garden visiting with the yellow book (NGS ). My husband used to say it was the most expensive book I bought, as of course I was like a child in a sweet shop, finding gardens that I really must visit. Not only do I enjoy the gardens , especially the new ones, of course there may be plant stalls too! I am a seasoned garden visitor of many years and get smiled at by the plant stall servers, as I always have sturdy bags, loose change and the right money etc.

I usually arrive at the garden early - but never ask or expect to go in early, I remember the frantic last minute rush to get things ready- but if I see another car or person arrive, I quickly get out of the car and stand ready to go in. Once in, I ignore the beautiful garden and go immediately to the plant stall to enjoy and choose from all the lovely plants there. Then I can enjoy walking right round the garden one way, then turn round and walk round the other way. You really get different views if you do that as of course the background will be altered. Then , back to the plant stall for a look to see if there is a cutting from some great plant in the garden. Often, there will be tea and coffee and some home made cakes or whatever, which may be run by someone else such as local church, which allows the owner to concentrate on the garden side. I have returned to many gardens over the years, and made friends with many owners. I have given them snowdrops or other plants over the years and enjoy seeing them thrive there and can report on plants I have had from them too. So when you think I have been doing this for about thirty years , it adds up.

When I was having chemotherapy and things were tough, I used to read through the book , planning on gardens I would visit far and wide. The book goes with me wherever I travel in the country, and I was always pleased if I was singing in somewhere a way off as it meant a chance to see yet another garden. So it is good to see garden visiting stretching before me this summer. Do have a look if you enjoy gardens, but I have warned you about the addictive and irresistably urgent need to travel far and wide to visit them. It comes out every year and you can look through county by county for england and wales and of course you can spot good detours on your way on holiday to enjoy too!

I am amused by people saying to me "havent you already been to that garden?" Of course a garden is a living thing, and will have changed in itself, even if the owner hasnt done any deliberate changing. When you return over the years you see the garden growing and changing. Sometimes, as with children, the owners dont notice the changes until you point them out, reminding them of when a plant was moved, or wondering what happened to such and such and perhaps helping them in the search for missing flowers. Another pleasure is that I am visiting to support the charities and enjoy the garden. It is nothing to do with the fact that I have always wondered what was behind that wall!!

Ah well that has been a lovely thing to think about this morning to take my mind off the dentist. Now the joy of Bach before 7 to cheer the morning. No sign of the squirrel this morning but a fat pigeon is walking along and inspecting some of the bigger branches on the tree as at last there are leaves appearing.

Mick hope your morning goes well and I think the idea of fish and chips sounds just right for today too.
Baubles the pictures were very good. We have the yarn bombers in Thirsk who make the most marvellous toppings for bollards etc and I enjoy looking at the latest whenever they change.
grandMattie hope you have a succesful sort out . Nothing seems to be simple to organise these days and always involves you as the customer making all the effort and stress to get things sorted. Oh to go back to the day where you walked into a shop and the knowledgeable assistant would sort it all out for you and if there was any problem you took it back and they quickly dealt with it. I know there are people who now advertise that they can sort out flat pack things from Ikea for you but there is definitely a gap I would say for someone to be the equivalent of the hardware shop with all the bits and pieces, but where you would take any tech problems and they would have all the right phone numbers and know who to ring and fax and email to get it all sorted whilst you could sit with a cup of coffee and as that poster from the war said KEEP CALM or perhaps have little dolls labelled post office, utilities etc etc and a selection of pins that you could stick in them while you waited!!

Ah well we can dream cant we? Well as we used to say friday is POETS day (push off early tomorrows saturday!) I just want the morning to rush by. Hoping everyone has a good day and success with whatever the plans are.

Good morning all from a bright North Leicestershire.

This morning I have to take DH to the gym as we only have one car until after lunch. While he is doing his thing, I shall go to Waitrose and get the fruit and veg and the butchers for meat.

Hopefully, that is all we have to do today, I feel the need for a very big sit down.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Georgesgran Fri 25-Apr-25 07:04:02

Good Morning from a bright sunny Durham. A day at home today, as I’ve no car, but still have DD2’s Little Dog here, with fluid arrangements for his return. After the gardeners’ visit, it’s looking good outside. I’m sure I can find a few garden jobs to fill my time. Fingers crossed the car is ready later and the bill not heart-stopping.
Great news FGT.

Best wishes to all. X

brook2704 Fri 25-Apr-25 07:03:54

Good morning everyone from London, it’s our last day here before heading to DD2s inn Cambridge this evening
Such beautiful flowers baubles they look so real, such a talented group
Yesterday we had a wonderful day, a walk in St James Park in the morning, a visit to the British Museum and a very posh afternoon tea. DS and partner left to travel home at tea time so DH and I had a look round Covent Garden and then got the tube back to our hotel, very happy but exhausted. Today we’re having a Uber boat trip up the Thames to Greenwich and for a look around there.
Lovely news from FGT 🥰
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

GrannyIvy Fri 25-Apr-25 07:03:32

Good morning from Cambridgeshire where it is 3 degrees but rising to 15 later.

Yesterday I had a good Pilates class and lunch with one of the ladies from the class afterwards at the garden centre. DH is going to Breakfast Club with the boys (neighbours )today and I will enjoy a wander around the Friday market and Waitrose but not much else planned.

Good news from FGT and hoping things get easier for Gingster and her DH today.

Hope today goes well for everyone.

Bellasnana Fri 25-Apr-25 06:30:25

Good morning from Malta where we expect a day very much like yesterday’s; sunny, windy and 19°C.

baubles those flowers are so pretty! I had to zoom in to see they were made of yarn and not real.🌺

grandMattie I’m exhausted just reading about your busyness so goodness knows how you cope with it!😄

FGT so very glad to hear you’ve had good news. A weight off your shoulders and time to enjoy making more happy memories together.

The boys were full of beans yesterday. They had me sitting on a bean bag while they both ran and leapt into my arms. Their energy knows no bounds! They then gave me a very loud drum recital whilst I folded a large basket of their clean clothes.

I took them to nursery and they went off happily, bless them.

I had a message from an old school friend last night telling me her 42 year old daughter is pregnant after using a sperm bank. I was a bit surprised and will obviously reply in a positive way as they seem thrilled about it, but it did get me wondering how I’d feel if it was one of mine. Also how the child will feel about knowing nothing about its father.

Nothing much planned for today apart from a quick shop and then hairdresser to have my roots done.

Wishing you all a good day.☀️

RosesandLilac Fri 25-Apr-25 06:25:06

Good morning from a chilly spot in south Glos, cloudy but blue patches starting to appear.
I had my double eye appointment at the opticians yesterday, contact lenses and glasses, I was there for two hours 😵‍💫
I’ve chosen new glasses and I have to collect them in two weeks.
I had sewing group in the afternoon, very nice to sit and natter while drinking tea and doing needlework.
Today it’s art group this morning then that’s another week whizzing by - time goes so fast nowadays ( I must be getting old….)
Absolutely nothing planned for the weekend, we’ll do some longer dog walk, I need to get on with weeding the borders and hopefully plenty of sunshine.
Have a lovely day 🌹

cornergran Fri 25-Apr-25 06:21:13

Morning Mick, morning All from a brightening corner of Somerset. Looks like the weather has calmed a bit.

Exhausting day yesterday, just a heap of practical stuff, including with the soon to be a frisbee computer, which has frustrated and angered in equal measure. I’m cross with myself as I’ve caused some of the mounting issues. A running up a sand hill time, almost at the top and down I slide again. Lack of sleep doesn’t help, four hours last night, one up on Thursday so progress. There are worse things I know. Volunteering this morning then back to it. I’m resigned to a lost weekend ahead.

Yes, pamtglas that was excellent news from fgt. So pleased for them. EE are pestering me to swap to them, reading about your struggles grandmattie maybe not! Hope it’s sorted today.

Hope Friday is kind to us all.

Pantglas2 Fri 25-Apr-25 05:55:23

Good morning all from a very 💨 north Wales and the sky can best be described as threatening…☹️

Lovely to read on Soops thread of the FGTs brilliant news 👏 no doubt they’ll be off on a gallivant to their happy place soon and good for them 🤗

This morning I have to drop the jalopy off at the dealership, a recall on the fuel thingamijig 🤷‍♀️ so I’ll have to spend three hours in the shops…😇

Will pop in later hopefully to read about more good stuff although I’m aware that some of you are struggling with all sorts of buggerations at the moment 💐

Greyduster Fri 25-Apr-25 05:42:36

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. The sun is just rising in South Yorkshire and it’s going to be a fine day. Yesterday I managed to spend an afternoon weeding in the garden. Wild strawberries were making a takeover bid, amongst other things. As we’ve had very little rain, the soil is very dry at the moment it was hard going. I am as stiff as a board this morning.
I will walk to school for my volunteer session this afternoon.
Have the best day you can folks.

grandMattie Fri 25-Apr-25 05:39:27

Lovely flowers, baubles.

grandMattie Fri 25-Apr-25 05:38:09

Good morning from a still rather chilly Bristol.
I started to assemble my quilt yesterday morning before my tai chi class. For some reason, min was very tired and I relaxed so much in class that I thought I would fall asleep although our exercises were pretty vigorous.
On my way back, I heard an improbable sound- lawnmowers. To my astonishment, they were on the estate. Thecgrass was ankle deep and disgraceful, but was being cut! A flurry of excited messages on our WhatsApp group…. Despite not collecting the cuttings, it is looking so much better.
I went to DD’s for dinner. I have been having any amount of trouble with BT since SiL has tried to change my Wi-Fi contract. DD is trying to sort it out and I’m meeting her at the EEshop to try and get service (which I have paid for!) and get a connection.
I have Spanish this morning, very quick lunch then off to meet DD, and come home on time for the hairdresser here, with my two neighbours.
I can’t do with all this busyness, it’s exhausting.
All the best to the travellers. Prayers and hope for the poorly and anxious.
Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩

baubles Fri 25-Apr-25 05:36:18

Holyrood park!!

baubles Fri 25-Apr-25 05:35:28

Good morning from South Lanarkshire where it’s dry and still.

We had such a pleasant afternoon with DD yesterday. The NT garden was alive with insects in the flowers and birds singing in the trees. Yes Kalu, it’s the one near you. DD was telling us that she used to bring her babies and find a bench in secluded corner to feed them and listen to the birdsong.

Childminding in Edinburgh today and I’m accompanying the eldest child on a walk to the Parliament Building as her school is taking part in a Protect Our Future gathering of some sort. It will be a pleasant way to spend the morning, walking through Hollywood Park and back again. DH will spend the time with the littlest and at lunchtime the middle child will be excited to be colllected from nursery as it’s her birthday today.

Photos are of our yarn group’s springtime display. Over 600 crocheted and knitted flowers attached to branches collected after the storm last month. Photos courtesy of the husband of one of our group.

Wishing everyone the best day possible
