Such a gentle, kind, empathetic 76 year old man. Doing the best he can, still receiving treatment and helping all of us living with cancer in the family to feel less alone.

King Charles has sent a personal message to fellow cancer patients, speaking of the "daunting and at times frightening experience" for cancer sufferers and their loved ones.

In a heartfelt message to guests at a Buckingham Palace reception for cancer charities, the King spoke about becoming a cancer "statistic" - referencing the more than 1,000 new cases recorded in the UK every day.

He said his experience of living with cancer had shown that "the darkest moments of illness can be illuminated by the greatest compassion".

Best wishes to you Your Majesty and thank you. Cancer strikes indiscriminately where it will and it’s a devastating diagnosis.

He’s a genuine, compassionate man, who is doing a great job, and am sure that the way he and the Princess of Wales have talked openly about their cancers is an inspiration to others.

Long may he reign.

I can't add much except "Well done, Your Majesty".

At least it is not spoken of in hushed tones as it was years ago, but still a frightening diagnosis.

If only his wife could get him to slow up just a bit!

Saw this online. I'm not a supporter of Charles but tbh I was really shocked at some of the comments there. People hoping he dies soon etc. Quite disgusting.
Also, people are saying Kate hid behind her diagnosis because her marriage was falling apart, and that's why she had so much time off. Some people are really evil hiding behind a keyboard.

I am a royalist, King Charles 👏👏👏

Trolls must be very sad, unhappy people, sazz1

He is a deep-thinking, kind and decent man. Long may he reign.

He could easily sit back and say little but he is using his position to raise awareness, as is the Princess of Wales. I hope he lives for as long as possible and suffers as little as possible.

Out of great difficulty comes compassion, what a marvellous man The King is, gently pulling the Royal Family into the 21st Century in many ways.
I applaud him and Queen Camilla, shining examples of thoughtfulness with a gentle touch.

He said a diagnosis is 'daunting and frightening at times'. How true for the many of us who have been there and are still there.

When reporters asked Camilla if King Charles would slow up she replied “dream on”.

My goodness he has shaped up to be such an empathetic and caring person.

Operating within the limitations set by their role, I am impressed by this elderly couple and their work.

An inspiration to many.
Who wouldn't be proud to have him as a husband, a brother, an uncle, a grandpa, AND as a father? I
I'm proud to have him as King. I hope he keeps well enough to enjoy his time.

Couldn't agree more Jaxjacky you echo my thoughts.

I agree. He's a genuinely caring man and a good monarch. I hope he reigns for many years yet.

I'm not a royalist but the people you mentioned sazz1 are so harsh, I suppose they want to lash out and upset others.
All praise to Charles who hasn't had the best of lives despite privilege but has turned his life around and become a fine King. I hope he makes a complete recovery.

People who say cruel things have sick minds - and that really is an incurable disease; perhaps they should be treated with pity as well as contempt. King Charles seems a good man, who tries to do good things. I wish him well; he has spent his life talking a great deal of sense that has often been mocked, and is now seen as truth.

Jaberwok Thu 01-May-25 17:49:30

Not much to be proud of in this poor country anymore, in fact it's becoming a tragic embarrassment. but the King and Queen definitely give me a surge of pride, as do the Prince and Princess of Wales. What a kind compassionate man the King is! God save you Sir, and God bless the Prince of Wales. Thank goodness we have you.

Kate1949 Thu 01-May-25 18:29:44

There can be few more frightening meetings than when a consultant says 'We have found cancer'.

ferry23 Thu 01-May-25 18:35:40

It's a great leveller that's for sure. I do wonder one of it's one of the very few times in his life where he really is in the same boat as "ordinary" as they fight this cruel disease.

He had huge boots to fill and I'm sure many wondered how his reign was going to play out - he can be a little "quirky"!

He is doing a splendid job and we have a compassionate and hard working King.

If only he and Camilla had been able to marry when they were young, the lives of so many would have been so very different. She really does seem to bring out the best in him.

Jaberwok Thu 01-May-25 21:56:30

I agree, but we wouldn't have had Prince William, he was the good thing that came out of that sadly doomed marriage.

Anniebach Thu 01-May-25 22:01:39

It isn’t true that they wanted to marry when young , Camilla wanted to marry Parker Bowles , Charles was only 25 at that time
