I’m so pleased it’s been done at last hollysteers timely too, I think you’re going away?

Thank you jaxjacky and LLFL, yes I’m off with the family to Greece on the 14th. Now I can enjoy all that delicious Greek food!

Degraded should be deheaded

Grandmabatty Sat 03-May-25 12:51:45

It was my university book shop too. I loved going in there and could (and did) spend hours browsing.
Bed is stripped and washing out on the line. Aldi has also been stripped of food. Tulips are degraded then the front door was washed- incontinent seagull attack. Then I had an unexpected visit from the boys while dd nipped to Aldi. I'll see them again later. Dgs1 is reading Fantastic Mr. Fox before bed with dd and is loving it. I have my instructions to read the next three chapters with him. Blossoming dd said he was seen by someone and told to wait as he was 5th in the queue. However the receptionist then said two emergencies had come in afterwards and he had gone backwards in the queue. He felt his eye was slightly better so decided to leave for work. Personally I think he's daft but it wasn't my call!

Marydoll was that once upon a time bookshop in St Vincent's Street and had six floors?

Yes!!!

Grammaretto Sat 03-May-25 12:00:07

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. I seem to have been on the go since dawn and it's Street Fair Day and the usual café in the Town Hall. Now I'm told my DS1 is on his way as are Dsis and DBiL from England. No idea when everyone will arrive but I left my Chinese helper at the fair, helping on a stall and another cake is in the oven. Beds made up.

I arrived late at yesterday's funeral (bus broke down) but was allowed to creep in at the back of the church. The huge church was packed mostly with DH relatives.
I felt the loss of him and decided not to attend the burial or reception.

I am glad that you've had some medical attention Marydoll. Lovely pics BTW 😍.

Sorry your cough has spoiled your cruise rather BlueSapphire.
Get better soon.
Hope everyone has a good Bank Holiday.

Glad that tooth is out at last H! Years ago I had an abscessed tooth. Sitting in the dentist’s waiting room, it decided to burst. Not a good look but at least the tooth was saved!

A late good morning from Sunnyside sandhills northwest coast.
I’m typing this with a small bag of frozen peas to hand to press against my cheek. My broken abscessed tooth was finally removed yesterday. I have been on a hospital waiting list since last July after the failed extraction. So a new private dentist and thank heavens it’s out.
I had originally decided on sedation, but arriving for my appointment the dentist said she would do it there and then as I was in some distress. Big girl pants on and off we went…
Left to the NHS, I would have gone to my grave with the damned half tooth in my head…

A quiet day ahead with painkillers and books.
Thoughts to Gingster Blossoming and all🌺
Pic of the blossoms in the lovely Savill gardens visited with DD recently.

Good morning everyone from cool and cloudy Lancashire. We are due some sunny intervals this afternoon.

Hope your DSiL’s eye is OK GrandmaBatty, shocking that he wasn’t seen.

That sounds like a wonderful day out Marydoll, love the photo.

Happy birthday Nannytopsy

Sounds like your DH is making good progress Gingster. I have MrB to nag me when I don’t feel like doing anything.

MrB took me and my wheelchair for a walk along the woodland path to the river yesterday and we spent a happy half hour watching terns and shelduck. After we got home I did half an hour on my mini pedaller and another half an hour of sitting/standing physio exercises. After all that I was ready for a nap!

My tri walker has just been delivered! I thought it would be black but I am delighted to see that it’s a beautiful shiny dark red. I’m quite excited to try it out. I will practice with it indoors first, with MrB keeping an eye on me.

There are steam trains today, it would be lovely to walk across to wave but I don’t think I’m quite ready for that yet.

Enjoy the long weekend folks, to all those spending it alone my thoughts are with you and I hope you can find some peace 🌹♥️

Fabulous photograph Marydoll you look so happy 👍

You are coping admirably Gingster with what life has thrown at you both. I so admire your fortitude and upbeat outlook at what must be such a seismic change.

Good Morning from a lovely bright sunny south east of England. Onwards and upwards!

Stilllearning Sat 03-May-25 09:09:53

Good morning from South Lanarkshire, bright and sunny but only 8 degrees.
A quiet day today, I’m going to try to start a very badly needed wardrobe clear out. I am NOT going to put back the items I never wear ‘in case’.

Vigil mass tonight as I’m going over to baubles bit of the world for lunch with DD2 and family tomorrow. I’m looking forward to hearing about DGD camping expedition as part of her DofE Award. She volunteered as a helper with the local children’s ParkRun’ for that part and really enjoyed it.

Wishing a good day to all, I agree weekends can be tricky for those of us on our own, hope everyone can find some joy x

Good morning from an overcast NE.
Yesterday was a dry but cooler day so I did not go into the garden.
Sister and BIL visited and we caught up with the family news.
No visitors today so I will watch some TV and do some reading.
Enjoy your BH weekend.

Marydoll Sat 03-May-25 08:49:05

Good morning all from a partly sunny Glasgow, where it is 10°C.
Yesterday was quite cool, with showers. Of course I listened to DH and didn't bring a brolly.

I have had a night of constant coughing, my chest is so congested, I wonder if hay fever is causing it,

Yesterday was such a lovely day with DD.
Firstly I had my GP appointment, I now have an urgent dermatology referral. That means nothing, I have been waiting a year for a respiratory appointment. I have been worrying about these lesions, for my mother had skin cancer, which ate away part of her face.
The GP was falling over himself to listen to my concerns.
I think he was shocked, that by myself I had managed to organise other urgent appointments with my clinicians, when he had done nothing.

I took the opportunity to walk through the shopping mall to speak to the locksmith. He has ordered keys blanks for the church safe, but they are proving very difficult to source.
The other reason was to keep dry, it was rather wet, but there is an exit next to the train station. I always have a cunning plan.😉

I had a long conversation with the lady in the station ticket office. I was trying to buy two single concession tickets, because this was a completely different line from my usual one and I was going back home eventually on a different line.
Despite me telling her that I often do this at my local station, she said staff shouldn't be doing that, because they were concession tickets.
Then to my surprise, she gave me a single round ticket. It cost £2.40 for a round trip of nearly twenty miles. A cheap day out indeed.
The ticket did not work in the barrier on my return journey.🤣

Before meeting DD I had a successful wander around JL. I am a fan of White Stuff dresses and found one I had never seen before in the sale rail. Being a rather well endowed lady, I need an 16 or 18, if it is a shirt dress. To my delight, I fitted into a 14, due to my weight loss.
Poor DD was getting frustrated, wandering JL, trying to find me, despite my live location placing me inside JL,
She then realised that I must be sitting in the fitting room, one of my ploys, when I need to sit down and rest.

Our afternoon tea was delicious, made to order sandwiches, accompanied by a glass prosecco.
We then moved onto a pub, which was an old bookshop, the walls are lined floor to ceiling with books. It used to be a haunt of mine in my university days.
We were sitting chatting, when suddenly I noticed people with their faces pinned against the glass, where I was seated.
It was DS and birthday girl, DIL. They had just come off the train and recognised the photo DD had posted on the family chat. A pleasant surprise for us.
DS had bought, DD a wild swimmer, a paddleboard for her birthday and she had been trying it out in a small lake near them. She is mad, it was so cold yesterday.

DD and I finally ended up in Grand Central for a strawberry Bellini, to toast DD's birthday, which is tomorrow. As usual, it was very busy. The only seat available was a high bar stool and DD and I were in stitches, and also the people in the room as she tried to help me into it. As soon as I sat in it, I slid off!

This morning, I have a fête committee meeting, then need send out the parish electronic bulletin and update the website.
Later, I am duty sacristan for the Vigil, a busy day.
The males of the family, DD and Dollie, (it is to be a surprise for her) are going to watch the local football team before Mass.
A busy day indeed!

Pants, I am in envy of your day out. I will need to go back later and read your posts, I have so much to do today.
Praying Mr Gingster is more comfortable today and that the poorlies are improving.
Susan, enjoy your theatre trip.

Have a pleasant day folks.

P,S, I am shocked to see in the photo, DD took, how white my once red hair has become in the few weeks. I still had lots of red in it a few weeks ago! 😭

Gingster Sat 03-May-25 08:36:01

Liberty enjoy your time away. I was there a few weeks ago with my chums for our 75ths. Studley castle. A beautiful area.

kittylester Sat 03-May-25 08:33:56

Good morning all from a bright but chilly North Leicestershire.

I have an empty today. So will just potter. I might weed the bottom of the wall that is next to the pavement. Depends how chatty I am feeling.

Gingster Sat 03-May-25 08:33:41

Sorry GrannySomerset I hadn’t read your post finding weekends difficult. Enjoy your book and the fine weather. The days will soon pass.💐.

monk08 Sat 03-May-25 08:32:42

Good morning all from the Black country very overcast and windy at the moment.
No plans as yet will see how I feel after our usual Saturday full English.
Liberty enjoy your steam train ride, we usually take at least one trip a year on it, last time we went as far as Arley and then walked to the arboretum a very long walk but worth it.
Have a good day everyone whatever your plans, will catch up later with everybody's happenings breakfast is calling ☀️

Gingster Sat 03-May-25 08:27:04

Good morning all and another Bank Holiday is upon us.

Yesterday was busy with visitors, mainly therapists. They have ordered another walking frame for Dh, with 4 wheels, a seat and brakes. That will be so handy to get him out and about.

Speech and physio teams are happy with him and he is trying his best (with a bit of persuasion (nagging) from me. He isn’t an easy patient! 🙄.

I’ll do some gardening today, thoroughly clean the shower and bathroom (workmen coming on Tuesday to fit grab rails and another bannister.)

Lovely nails FGT.
Beautiful sunset Jax.
Makes me long for my seaside retreat.😢.

Enjoy the last couple of days of your cruise Blue and Glammagran . I have cruise envy.
I need to be near the sea. ! Fingers crossed not too long. 🙏

Love and best wishes to all and enjoy the weekend. 🪴

RosieandherMaw Sat 03-May-25 08:26:09

Good morning from sunny N Bucks.
Yes Granny Somerset I “get” you - and BH weekends even more so flowers

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 03-May-25 08:16:55

💐 for you GrannySomerset and to all others who find weekends especially hard.

GrannySomerset Sat 03-May-25 08:13:22

No plans for today though now the tulips have finished must deadhead them. Plenty to read though so not exactly an empty day, but weekends are difficult.
