Due to start getting my state pension in a few months time, applied online and yesterday received not one but two letters which are exactly the same telling me when and how much I’ll be receiving. Does receiving two letters mean I’ll get two lots of pension?

You should be so lucky! If you do receive two when they find out they will make you pay it all back, probably with interest, anyway!

I recently got notification of a rise in the pension I get from my late husband's employment - it'll now be less than before the rise!!!

I got two letters in February about my upcoming state pension one told me how much I’ll be getting monthly and one telling me how much my first payment will be, as I’m only getting one weeks pension before it goes onto the four weekly payment

For anyone due to get their pension soon, some advice. Get in touch with HMRC (if you can) and request to have your pension paid weekly not monthly. This is what I did. It's nice to have a weekly payment and not be waiting for a particular time in the month for the money to come into my bank account.

I have frequently received 2 letters from HRMC on the same day and once 1 received 2 hefty A4 envelopes with 17 forms in each identical years to complete. My income from England it less than £2000 and I cannot submit on line as you are not allowed if you live 'abroad' which I have for 38 years and do not havea gateway number
I have complained many times how much taxepayers '
money is wasted on me and the answer is always the same
'declaire on line'
This all started in 2017 after Brexit

If you’re she/her it’s a single payment but if you’re they/them you might have a shot at double?

DO check that your contributions were credited for any child care breaks - there has been publicity about errors
Do ask if you are/were married, if any of your spouses contributions should be adding to it

It’s actually the DWP for pension payments, I get mine fortnightly it makes it easier to budget I find. HMRC is for tax.

As I have always been paid monthly since I was 16, I would prefer to receive the state pension monthly as that is what I am used to. Will they do this if I ask them? To me, four weekly payments are a pain actually as I never know what day it is arriving and have to diarise it to keep track.

No uts weekly or 4 weekly.

I'm surprised at that, I retired 10 years ago and was told they no longer paid pensions weekly! I had to have it paid every 4 weeks.

I've got used to 4 weekly payments now as I write them in my diary at the beginning of each year but the timing is sometimes very inconvenient as most of my bills go out monthly. I'd be interested to know if it is still possible to be paid weekly. I didn't think we had a choice.
When I was in one particular job I was paid on the 15th of each month, so half in arrears and half in advance. When I left I got half my pay on the 15th but had to wait until the 31st for the rest. I didn't earn enough to make it worthwhile doing a runner!

According to Age Uk - you can ask to have it paid weekly, fortnightly or every four weeks.

Mine (four weekly) is always a Monday, so I just put it on my calendar at the start of the year.
As there are 13 such payments per year, it’s nice to get 2 in one month - September this year.
I keep a close eye on my finances and need to know what I’ve got in hand for bills, etc.

Jo when I started work, there was a ‘running-on’ week and you got nothing for the first week, which you were paid if and when you left.

I am paid 4 weekly. How do you always get yours on a Monday Georgesgran if you too are paid 4 weekly. There must be a glutch in mine as I have to work out which day and date it will be paid.

The day you receive your state pension is dependent on your NI number, cannot remember exactly how it works, it might be the end letter.

Being paid every four weeks it’s very easy to pay always on a particular day of the week.

Not sure I understand your post - but I do get paid every 4th Monday - so I’ve got my DWP today, next will be 9/6, then 7/7, 4/8 etc - all Mondays.

Whether weekly or 4 weekly it's paid in arrears, so financially we're better to get it weekly.

Do you have to actually claim your pension? Or just get a letter telling you how much and when? I am due mine from November but wasn't sure if it just "kicks in automatically?"

You have to apply. You normally get a form 3 months before but if you don't you should ring them.
