So sorry about your daughter. I have a young friend who suffers with bipolar and I wonder where this will end. I feel that anyone who takes their life just can't see a way out. May we all just give grace to people who are coping in the only way they can.

We all have vaying degrees of health physical, mental and otherwise. Am v thankful to have pretty robust health in all ways but i dont take it for granted. Have a lot of sympathy for everyone suffering and psychiatric illness aide i think we can all promote mental health and wellness by building up and investing in our social and community support systems xx

(Hugs) for you Anniebach. One of my daughters has mental health issues. She is ok just now but you are always a bit on edge wondering when the next episode will happen. Not many know about it except the family but when she has a psychotic episode the mental health services are less than helpful and wait and wait until it is an emergency.

7 years ago my darling elder daughter took her life, she had
struggled with bi polar for ten years, until then was loved by
a large extended family. Her been so ill caused concern but
somethings she said/did during the episodes caused more concern, people were talking shock horror, when she died not
one member of my extended family, including siblings contacted me, my crime ? I defended my child

I think it would be useful if some of the conversations were honest. My closest friend has mental health problems, when she is ill some of her behaviours make me deeply uneasy, this may be a fault in myself, in fact I am sure it is but it doesn't change it.

I think celebs opening up about there MH is not that useful to ordinary suffers.
I can’t really express myself well about this, but there is a tendency to avoid even friends with MH problems to protect themselves and their own MH.
Mental illness is often long term, unlike a broken leg for instance, so people don’t want to get involved.

It is so needed that everyone speaks out about life with mental
illnesses

A forum like this can be very valuable for information and support. There should be more like it. I like the anonymity and worldwide perspective. Not necessarily about mental health issues but a lot of other medical things as well as just general advice which we can accept or not as we think fit.

Obviously Mental health is as important as other health issues and should be treated just as seriously. But I must confess i am getting a bit fed up with every Tom, Dick and Harry has to announce that their mental health is suffering. Seems like everyone in show business either is or has suffered from poor mental health. I'm sure talking about your mental health is good for you but keep it within your own circle of friends or family and/or get professional health. Hearing that everybody is suffering can be so draining.

Thank goodness that people are speaking out, sharing experiences, highlighting the lack of help. Without celebrities using their position to bring so many health problems into the media we'd be a lot worse off. I hope they never stop raising awareness.

I battle with it every day. It’s a lonely planet and I rely on my crafts to get me through. A lot of people just do not understand. My sleep pattern is terrible and I feel headachy and drained most of the time.

Mental health care in Australia is also dire. The Cinderella of services as it is known. It makes me feel sick thinking about it.

There is a huge number of children suffering with mental health problems it is vitally important we bring awareness to this awful illness, which can show itself in so many, many different ways. Have a look at 'parental minds' on the web and on FB. The lady who started the group just before lock down has first hand experience with her own child and has done amazing work in our area.

Telling people with mental health problems to "get a grip" can be a source of further distress and shame.

Unless you have training or substantial knowledge of an individual, it's one of the most cruel - and even dangerous - things that can be said.
