Genius - often applied liberally to people who clearly aren't.

Iconic

mindermum Tue 13-May-25 18:04:17

Unprecedented - barely heard it before the pandemic and now just about everything is unprecedented

Bukkie Tue 13-May-25 17:06:46

" Can I get" as in Can I get a cup of tea etc... No it's, "Please can I have a cup of tea?" Or, "Please may I have a cheese sandwich."

EEJit Tue 13-May-25 16:51:38

Like and so when used at the wrong time, like at the beginning of sentences

FranP Tue 13-May-25 16:40:11

exciting - jobs seem all to be exciting opportunities these days.

anticipate - when they mean expect

very unique - it either is or it is not unique

Extraordinary.

I love the word extraordinary, it reminds me of Sally Thomsett in The Railway Children.

Moggycuddler Tue 13-May-25 16:07:08

Honestly. As in "Honestly, I was really angry!" And "Honestly, I can't stand red jumpers!" Does this mean that generally everything you usually say is a lie then?

PilgrimQuill Tue 13-May-25 15:50:33

Every time there is a totally preventable crisis of some sort - "We take (our customers welfare) very seriously"
Yeah, right...

RosieandherMaw Tue 13-May-25 15:47:21

Curated

Nanny27 Tue 13-May-25 15:20:59

Enough already. So so hate this phrase.

Maggiemaybe Tue 13-May-25 15:14:34

That’s a really good question!

Said by every interviewee desperately trying to think of a way to wriggle out of answering it.

Camry1952 Tue 13-May-25 15:11:23

When people comment about a post and say "cuteness overload". Usually it's one after another making the comment on the same post.

MickyD Tue 13-May-25 14:57:08

Oh me too. How is “absolutely “ beneficial to any conversation ?!?

Also “yeah, yeah, yeah” (very quickly) after the other person’s sentence. Grrr 😃

Witzend Tue 13-May-25 14:24:28

Literally, like, you know, basically amazing!

orly Tue 13-May-25 14:15:58

Should of instead of have

Could go on. Perhaps I’m easily irritated!

CraftyOwl Tue 13-May-25 14:09:39

Boolya

Fresh, as in fabric conditioner or air “freshener”. Take note Lenor - whoosh of freshness - no way, all artificial.

On the subject of adverts; I hate the, over used, expression 'full of goodness'. As opposed to what, full of evil?

I sympathise hollysteers every time I post anything on GN I feel as though I am putting my head on a block, to quote yet another cliche.

Nightmare!

Geordiegirl1 Tue 13-May-25 13:55:11

‘Incredibly’ was hammered to death by the last govt - ‘we are working incredibly hard to …’ whatever thé flavour of the day was.

mabon1 Tue 13-May-25 13:51:30

Starting the answer to a question with "so".
