On the 21st May 2024 our house went on the market.

Today nearly a year on we finally move into our new home.

We moved out on 21/3/25 and have been living out of suitcases for two months!

We have had to have immense patience as our sellers had so many hitches with their purchase but we’ve done it!

It will hopefully be worth all the stress, today we move in with all the stuff we’ve been lugging around for 8 weeks and some bits we stored with friends, the big day is Monday when our furniture arrives!

Anyone out there going through the process my advice is stay calm and stick with it!

My last move was nearly 22 years ago and I hope to start the process again this year or next - currently in the decluttering phase!
Last time we put most of our stuff in storage as we had a cash buyer but our purchase chain was incomplete. We rented a friend's house as they were going to Australia leaving their house on the market and we found this out 2 weeks before we had to be out, so things were getting stressful! We rented for about 3 months including 10 days after completion when we had a damp course put in and decorated 5 rooms!
I'm hoping this next time will be more straight forward as I'm on my own now, but dreading the process. I guess the more I declutter the easier it will be. Wish me luck!

Good luck and much happiness in your new home Sago. My home is on the market. I haven't found anything yet. My family are relocating and I'm going too. The family have found a property they love, so fingers crossed for them.
I'm hoping I find a house I love as much as my current home of fourteen years.

Congratulations Sago and good luck in your new home.

Well done! Wishing you many happy years in your new home.

I'm way behind you - still decluttering. I had a home report last week and it's beginning to feel real.

I don't know where I'll move to yet. I
will have to find a rental for a while.
I'm by myself too and sometimes feel very alone.

We moved here together 45 years ago

Congratulations, Sago, I can feel all the aches and pains you’ve been going through! My house was sold on 31 March – buyer anxious to complete before the rise in stamp duty – and the bungalow I’m buying is just 2 minutes’ drive away from my daughter’s flat, where, like you, I’ve been living out of a suitcase with my dog, for nearly two months. I’m ready to exchange and so are my sellers, and so are the sellers of the house they’re moving on to – everything signed and ready, but… bloomin’ probate! The owner of my sellers’ next home died suddenly in November just when they were all ready to move, they lost their sale, but gained me and m’dawg, and I wave at my new home every day but I can’t move in.

So you’ve given me a bit of reassurance: all we hear from the probate lawyers is “it’s progressing according to plan”.

Life’s standing still, but I know that all of a sudden it’s going to happen so fast that my feet won’t touch the ground!

Yippee!!!

We so,d up in the UK and moved out gophers to Australia. We have since moved twice. The ‘chain’ system doesn’t exist here. You buy, agree a date and that’s that! It doesn’t matter if the seller has an issue with their purchase, it’s their problem. It might sound harsh but it’s so much easier. We had a nightmare when we bought our house in the UK 😡

Yes, we moved in Friday with a few belongings, the removal vans arrive tomorrow😱!

It’s been good to have the weekend to get to know the house and figure out where everything will go.

The hard work starts tomorrow!!

Thanks all for your warm wishes.

Yes I too am going through this.. I'm going to be downsizing when I've sold my late mums house.
We had a buyer and was about to go to contract and our buyers buyer pulled out of the chain. Not the best of news , so had to put the house back on the market as I've an apartment I've reserved
It's been very stressful but now thankfully we have a cash buyer , so hoping for a quick sale so I can move out of my 3 bed rental and into my new apartment. I will keep you all posted.
Enjoy your new home 💐

Best wishes for the future.

My tips:
look for an inherited property or a new build.
Sell to a first time buyer, preferably still living at home

Oh wishing you good luck in your new home. I’ve moved home so many times that I’ve lost count. Had to rope in DS and GF last time. Getting everything on eBay or Schpock to make next move a little easier.

Much happiness in your new home

Congratulations and Happy New Home 🏡
Our move was a nightmare as it took 9 months to sellout house, and then our new house owners postponed completion date by 2 weeks as they booked a last minute cruise! Our buyer threatened to pull out if we moved the date forward. We ended up with everything in storage and lived in our touring caravan for the 2 weeks. Very happy here now living on the coast of Devon.

It was an inherited property that caused the delay.

It was an inherited property that caused the delay.

Same for our purchase of our retirement flat Sago.

We were cash buyers, not selling our house.
The vendor was selling a deceased parent's empty property.

The whole process took thirteen months.
There were complications caused by lack of Power of Attorney, and historic problems with the information held by the Land Registry.
