What TV shows do you miss?

Lots of stories about all kinds of shows being 'cancelled' by today's society, but it's hooey.

We still have Doc Martin here - old ones of course. Anyone remember David Frost and That was the week that was? Little Britain was funny but censorship these days would likely prevent it.

freevee titles are free with ads via Amazon but it's hit and miss trying to find titles. To search the database properly, you need to access it via an app on your mobile or streaming media player.

Crosstitchfan - I have recently watched some of the old Houseparty programmes on YouTube but they seem so dated and contrived now! You could have a look and see what you think.

For those feeling wistful about "Little Britain" - maybe find some U-Tube or similar of old Dick Emery sketches, and you'll likely see pretty much the same material?!

There was a recent thread about The Good Wife (just a fantastic show, with courtroom stories and a side-show lampooning the American political system -- and a couple of terrific British actors) - presently being repeated on '5 USA'.

On other channels showing reruns you can find Rising Damp, Till Death (& its spin-off), Open All Hours, Duty Free, Dinnerladies, and other sitcoms when they had a working 'com' element!

Downton Abbey has I believe repeats showing in the afternoons, and we recently saw (quite by accident) a few minutes of Lark Rise to Candleford & Cranford, both being rerun. The original BBC Maigret series recently finished being rerun on the Talking Pictures channel (but it will surely reappear before too long!), and the same channel has Marker on the go, and the Cremer (French) version of Maigret.

Channels like Gold or Drama (etc) almost always have the likes of Allo Allo or Only Fools on the go, the other week His Nibs was changing channel and accidentally hit the Batman & Robin section of that episode, still far funnier than any modern alleged sitcom.

I loved Drop The Dead Donkey but I wonder if it would stand the test of time. I am currently watching reruns of Frazier for its clever script and excellent acting. It still makes me laugh.

I've just seen "The Strange World of Gurney Slade advertised on rewind tv tonight, so I'm going to record it, I found it fascinating when it was on originally. I enjoyed Drop the Dead Donkey, I don't see why it wouldn't work now. Let's see, we used to have racist and rude jokes but now as someone commented we have young women being tortured and murdered for our entertainment, which would you rather have?

I love Frazier as well. For some reason nothing about it has dated. Neither the fashions nor hsirstyles. The script is so slick and funny. I prefer it without Millicent Martin and Daphne's brother.
And thinking of M Martin. That Was The Week That Was was brilliant. I was a young teenager thinking it was very adult!

I mean sketch shows.

I used to like the comedy ketch shows like Monty Python, Not The Nine O'Clock News, The Fast Show, Armstrong and Miller, Mitchell and Webb, Smack the Pony and Little Britain.

Boring to many, but ‘Crossroads’. Also, going back donkeys’ years, ‘Houseparty’. That was a programme like ‘Loose Women’ but with a decent panel who were interesting and much more watchable.

Also Herman the German. Interesting but stupid
