What TV shows do you miss?

I really miss all the great sitcoms from the eighties and nineties. They were always something to look forward to and many are hilarious to watch 40 years later. Always loved the sophisticated humour in Yes Minister.

This has been such a good thread...so many programmes recalled which I had forgotten. I must listen on youtube to the Cagney and Lacey theme tune. I remember liking it. And who can forget the theme tune to the Oneidin Line. And Howards Way.
Mash was such a brilliant series.

I agree with a comment that these shows hark back to a happier time. Ceetainly in my life. And a more simple time. Less choice and we watched rogether. As a family we loved Friends then Frazier. And I particularly remember watching with my parents as a young adult Who Pays the Ferryman and Miss Marple with Joan Hicks.

I wouldn't want any to return as they were of their time. Some, like Fools and Horses seemed to last too long but finished perfectly. Randall and Hopkirk deceased was a really enjoyable series to me. I wouldn't have wanted it to come back but I wish they'd made more than one series at the time. The same with Fawlty Towers.
Some of the comedy series from the seventies are just awful when you look at them now. Racist, sexist and homophobic.

Think it’s sad that kids don’t have Saturday morning programmes like Going Live and TisWas, that were equally as enjoyable for their parents ( The Phantom Flan Flinger, the Dying Fly…and who were those two folk singers? What was it they sang? Swing your pants or something). I gave my daughter my ( well it was hers originally) Gordon the Gopher a few years ago for, I think, some sort of retro party, and never got him back .

I don't need to miss repeats of some of the old programmes because they're available on many of the vintage channels, so I'm actually at this very moment watching a repeat of "Last of the Summer Wine"

Personally I can't think of any I would like to see. Let's face it some of the old TV series, would never be made now. Although they we "popular" at the time. They thought nothing of including Racism, Violence especially by the Police and Misogynistic.
Everything from the Carry on films, to The Sweeny.
I watched Heartbeat the other day, and the Police Sargent was shouting and verbally abusive at the junior Police officers it was plain bullying.

I know it's different times now, but they make me shudder if I accidentally stumble across one.

As a family we loved Monkey? Was it on Friday nights?

I found some goodies on Rewind TV. I've been enjoying Soap, still as funny and silly as I remembered. I also recorded The Monkees and introduced them to my grandsons when they were here last month. They loved them and we watched a couple of them every evening. I even heard my younger grandson quietly singing the theme to the Monkees while he was playing. Fabulous 👌

There are a few TV shows I really miss — not just for the stories, but for the way they made a certain time in life feel special. Revisiting them now feels like a happymod.pro/ trip back to those moments.

The old Morse series and the spin offs were brilliant .
Today , there are limitless crime dramas :
We have the Ecclesiastical ones such as Father Brown and Sister Boniface -but to me they rely on being period pieces and not crimes that take some solving .
I've loved the old Agatha Christie stories -admittedly they are period pieces ,but the solutions aren't apparent .
I enjoyed Sherlock Holmes for the mood they evoke .
I'm left cold by the new detective series and Whitstable Pearl is an example .
I've enjoyed watching re -runs of The Avengers .
I thought that it was brilliant at the time .
I've laughed at the antics of Arthur Daly in Minder .
I still enjoy New Tricks and Spooks .
I loved the original Dr Who .
I still enjoy it -but it's oh so complicated .

I think that many of us long for the old TV programmes , because they evoke a period of a happier Britain .
They certainly reflect our naivety and innocence .
Today's programme are faster paced and
technically superior and they are catering for a younger generation .

I felt that about Butterflies when I watched an episode a couple of years back. Loved it at the time, but goodness how annoying she was. Almost yelled "just get a job and a cleaner"at the tv. Maybe she had a cleaner anyway.

She did have a cleaner called Ruby. Why did her husband and two sons just sit around and moan and joke about her meals, did it not occur to any of them to learn to cook for themselves?
Very much of its time. I can't say I miss it.

Notsphagetti. Ice Road Truckers is being shown on Channel 5 on Monday nights.
TiggyW. Thunderbirds and Fireball XL5 are both shown from time to time on Talking Pictures TV.

Elothan I remember Red Grass being on the 'wireless' was it the same series? I listened to it when I got home from school.
Also remember Doomwatch a bit scary in its time.
