Soop's kitchen for kindly folk...

jaxjacky we do have a wide range of ages for our grandchildren. I was an “old mum” at 28 and 32, but my DDs are even older, both had their first at 38 & their second at 42/43! The eldest granddaughter is 10 and her sister is 6, their cousins are 7 and 2 and a half! They’re definitely the sandwich generation, with grannies in our late 70s/early 80s and young children! I’m trying not to be too much of a nuisance!! Fin is certainly a tall lad!

Hi all, gosh don't we have an age range of grandchildren, all at different stages, each with their own challenges for them and no doubt their parents.
A cooler day, but humid, saw my daughter and Fin, goodness, that lad is heading towards six foot at age 12, shoe size 10. Faffed in the garden, my sweet peas are dying, it’s been too hot for them, not even bloomed yet.
We’re have a poussin for dinner, more garden potatoes and veg for dinner, away for a few days this week, so I don’t want leftovers.
Thinking of those absent 👋👋

DD and her boys have gone home, the afternoon was fraught at times. The Imp was overly tired, once he had finished splashing and swimming, he had a Granny cuddle, promptly fell asleep for an hour.

I have collapsed on the sofa, with a chilled white wine (nothing unusual about that)

Will go up to bed early to finish my book (I am re-reading Jilly Coopers Rutshire series for the nth time, shallow I know, but I thoroughly enjoy them. I have been in love with Rupert Campbell-Black since my teens)

Evening Kitcheners. It is so nice to hear about your grandchildren moving on to the next stage in their education.
Brook we had heavy showers most of the morning. I have pottered about the house this morning then went for a lie down in the afternoon because of a bad night. That helped. Dinner will be mashed potatoes and steak casserole then mixed berries. I might take a cocodamol before bed to help my sore feet and legs. Enjoy your evening Kitcheners

Hi kitchen pals, lovely to catch up on all your news, especially about all the DGC changing schools and facing new challenges, let’s wish them all the very best!
It’s been a weird day weather wise here, warm and windy and showers on and off, in between very warm sunshine I’ve enjoyed a day at home and pottered in the garden, also continued with tidying the garage that still has quite a few of DD2s things here 🙄
Hoping everyone is doing ok, thinking especially of Mr &Mrs Soop and hoping all is well x

Eldest granddaughter has a visit to her probable senior school soon, and her sister and cousin are visiting their new junior school one day this week. They are growing up so quickly, but littlest still has two years at nursery!
Not quite as hot today thank goodness, with a welcome breeze. I can’t open my big windows because of birds and can’t leave the patio door open because of the birds and a visiting cat!
DD1 and family came for a quick lunch which was nice. DD2 will be home from Disney Paris soon, I hope they had a good time- hot and expensive no doubt!
I wonder if we will get any rain this week, I’m finding it hard work to keep watering.perhaps I should give up growing vegetables completely.

It's transition time all round, or so it seems.

DGS3 has finished school and gone on holiday. His apprenticeship starts in Sept. His sister has just finished her GCSEs, DGD2 begins hers, her sister moves to senior school and Wolfie starts juniors - although in the same village school.

Our oldest DGS starts secondary school in September too. He is going to a huge school, with 300 children in each year group. He is going on the school bus but will need a lift to the bus stop though.
It was over 30 C in our kitchen this afternoon - the thermostat says HI when it gets that warm. I don’t think we are going to get any rain. I hope we can sleep!

My eldest DGD has another year in juniors before going up to seniors, but I know this year will go very quickly. Her sister and cousin move from infants to juniors in September, leaving a small school of 180 children altogether for a much bigger junior school with 180 children in one year! I’m not allowed to do the school pick up because I’d get knocked over with the hordes of children and parents.
Very hot here today with a warm breeze making it feel even more uncomfortable. I spent most of the day indoors with a fan on but did cut back a large shrub, so not an entirely wasted day.

I know how you feel Scapal the time passes so quickly and they grow up so fast, you’ll miss her for sure! Lots of happy memories to look back on though and new ones to make. I hope you can keep yourself busy and find some new and enjoyable things to do

Brook my youngest granddaughter also moves up to secondary school after the holidays. She has had her days up at High School and this week is leaver activities week. Another chapter closes! We will no longer have after school care and to be honest I am quite sad about it after having been involved in this with the girls for the last 13years. Natural progression but hard. Will have to find something else to do with myself.

So still Blossoming it’s must be lovely having that so local to you.
Up at 6 this morning, too hot, great outside though for my cup of tea, the heat has increased all day, a slight breeze is very welcome. So, newspaper read, crossword awaits, leftover bbq for dinner and MrJ has just watered.
I’m tired - I think a shorter sleep, the heat and Covid have combined, a blocked up nose too which is very annoying as I can’t blow.
What a moan post, get a grip Jax!

I should have been enjoying a quiet day with DH today but DD2 messaged this morning asking if I’d like to meet for coffee in town. She hardly ever asks as she’s so busy so I thought I’d better go! We did have a good chat and catch up on the DGC news, eldest DGS is ready for his move to senior school after the holidays. He’s been enjoying his transition days and next week spends 3 full days at the big school, getting his timetable sorted etc and finding out where all the different classes are. It’s such a big step, I still remember my first day at senior school, my mum had spent most of that summer shopping for various uniform items ( there was a long list) and I felt quite bad that things were so expensive. Everything had to have name tags sewn on too - I think we were on the very last minute with those 🤣

Evening everyone, MrB and I went out early for our walk today, to beat the heat. It turned out we’d actually beaten the rain! There’s been a few showers today and it feels cooler. Still warm enough for T-shirt and shorts. I’m struggling a little at the moment so I’ll just sneak into the quiet corner for a snooze.

Hi all, we’ve had a friends brother and wife here for a bbq, they’re visiting him from Australia, said friend is busy tonight but we’ve met D&E before in Françe.
A great evening to sit out once it cooled down, bbq went well we haven’t seen them since 2017, but conversation flowed, MrJ just walked them part way back to our friends flat.
It’s been hot here too, the tail end of covid was testing today with the heat but I’m still up, our bedroom will be warm.
I like that llfl not a sheep making a sheep!!
I hope absent kitcheners are well; kitty covid abating? and soop more comfortable.

Once again I am melting!

OH went to his shooting club today - shooting targets.

I went to a WI event on felting. I had never heard of it before. Most people made sheep as instructed by the tutor. That wasn’t for me so I made a freestyle design in my favourite colours of green, purple and black. Someone did a hamster and another an owl. We had tea and cakes too and it was a fun morning.

A really hot day today this end. I have spent much of it sewing.
The TV has just informed us that we have a summer of sport coming up… I will spend much of it sewing too 🤣

Not quite as hot as yesterday because there was a pleasant breeze blowing. Still very hot indoors though and I don’t like to open the windows too wide because I’ve had birds fly in. I went into the garage to get something out of the freezer and a bird flew in. Fortunately I persuaded it to go out again quite quickly!
I did manage a walk to the pharmacy to collect my prescription and back a different way to increase my step count for today. I deadheaded some roses and watered the pots. Also changed the bedclothes, washed and dried them. Feeling quite satisfied with my day’s work.

Evening all. It has been up to 29° here Brook. Quite uncomfortable. I managed to strip the bed, wash everything and hung it out. Dried, brought in, ironed and put back on the bed. I watered some pots and have hoovered too. I'm still being careful and not bending or lifting. I'm glad the dog was returned Nannytopsy but it's rotten that she had to pay.
Tonight I've done the dishes and tidied up. The fan is back on because it's so humid. It'll be an uncomfortable night, I fear. I hope you have a decent, cool night

Hi kitchen pals, a very hot sunny day for us here in Inverness, about 27° - far too hot for me so I’ve come inside and put my feet up in the lounge. The conservatory where we usually eat our meals is far too hot so I think we’ll just eat in front of the TV later tonight and balance a glass of wine somewhere…
I called into DD2s earlier, helped with a bit of tidying, went to Tesco and then went for a quick class at the gym. All good but I’m exhausted now, I think it’s the heat that saps my energy
I hope everyone is managing ok and keeping cool

Another warm day - sitting on the sofa with the fan on!
We had a concert in church last night and I have been up to collect my flowers. The church is kept locked and there isn’t another service until July, so flowers are always collected.
The owners of the dog realised she had been taken and advertised a reward with no questions asked as soon as she went. I would have had someone watching for a car, to get the number.

Thank you, Redcar, I am now enjoying a wee glass of PG, feet up, ice packs ( OK, frozen peas 🤣) on my swollen ankles. Well done you, for ironing on such a hot day. IKWYM about shorts, I'm still wondering how mine shrunk in the wardrobe...

I am melting. Not literally or there would be a pool of me on the carpet!

I spent most of the day inside with a fan on. I popped into the garden a couple of times but 30 degrees is too hot for me.

It will be good to hear soon from FGT2 and I hope all is well with the Soops.
