Welcome! Please make yourselves comfortable. I thank you all for your patience and support throughout the times that we've shared. flowers

I have not as yet had a response from Gransnet to my questions:-
How many reportings of a post or posts are required before a ban?
Does the OP have a warning before a ban?
And what is regarded as worthy of a ban?
I hope that this will be clarified by Gransnet at some stage. I didn't see the original post so like others I don't know if it was offensive.

We are grown women with years/decades of life experience, why should we not be free to express our views?

Because we’re the invisible old. Our opinions rarely count and we don’t have an on/off switch on our filters (whatever the heck they are)

Hi all. We appreciate your concern for your fellow GNer but we're sure you understand why we don't generally go into detail about our interactions with individual posters. We can say that we've been in touch with FGT off the boards today regarding the status of their account.

I don't usually post on Soop's because I can't keep up! 🙂 but thank you for your post about FriedGreenTomatoes, AnnieGransnet, and I'm relieved to know you have been in touch with her.

I did email you with concerns about the ban and received a nice reply but am still concerned that someone could take exception to a poster's politics and, apparently, get them banned. As I didn't see the offending post I can't judge whether or not it was against guidelines.
However, although I don't agree with FGT's politics, many do and one only has to look at various media outlets to see similar views expressed, as we live in a democracy.

FGT is alway unfailingly polite, even when treated with derision by other posters and her ban is baffling. Surely it cannot be down to her political views? Although I know GN has to be careful what it allows to be pubished, surely it is not biased, and all views, within guidelines and without breaking laws, should be allowed?

Sorry to ramble on, but FGT is not the only poster who has been banned recently for reasons which are unclear.

I hope this turns out to be a suspension because FGT needs the support of her friends on Gransnet.

I normally hate the “Quote” facility as it makes for too much repetition but there was so much here Allira that I wanted to say I agree with.
Like most of us I can agree or disagree with the political persuasion of any posts, but that does not mean the writer need be banned. If you don’t agree, say so. If you think it is out of order call it out.
There is an enormous difference between the unwelcome intrusion of tr*lls, of spam, of gratuitous rudeness or vulgarity and difference of principle.
This is not “the night of the long knives” or thought police is it?
We are grown women with years/decades of life experience, why should we not be free to express our views?
(Answers on a postcard!)

Thank you for your kindness, UTBB. Also thanks to Maw. 🙂

I didn’t know Maddyone had been banned, I thought I hadn’t seen her for a while. sad

I’ve spent the weekend sorting out my mum’s stuff. It’s organised now, most to go to her care home plus a box of papers to go to my younger brother who has POA. I came across lots of photos of my brother who died recently. He really was the most beautiful baby and child. I still can’t believe he’s gone.

Hello kitchen people - and FGT2 if she’s allowed to access the site.

What a long day! We were up at the crack of dawn and at the Car Boot place by 8.30 am. We sold a lot of honey. Not as much as last time but there were fewer people. I imagine the cold icy wind kept them away!

We had a delicious lunch at a favourite venue and headed off for an Arts Festival. It is held every other year. I couldn’t resist an A5 sized very colourful abstract oil painting. I also couldn’t resist a large colourful print which was rather 1970s album cover! Cue a conversation with the artist about David Gilmore’s guitar solo on Comfortably Numb.

I am going to Buyer’s Day at the Sumner Exhibition at the Royal Academy on Friday. I am running out of walls…

Sleep 💤 tight.

A drier day here today, after yesterday’s deluge. The garden certainly took a battering but I managed to tidy it a bit today. I planted a few plants in the front garden and some of the seeds I sowed last week have germinated. Goodness only knows what they are though, it was a packet of mixed seeds a friend gave me. I await developments with interest, fingers crossed there are some pretty flowers amongst them!
Had a walk this morning and met up with some dog walking friends, sat and chatted for a while, but it was chilly in the wind. More talking than walking today! It’s good to see people.
I had my usual weekly catchup phone call with a friend who lives in Kent, she’s waiting for her second hip to be replaced and is finding it hard to get around.

I hope that GN HQ show some compassion and allow fgt to come back soon.
Night night everyone.

What a lovely post Utbb.

kittylester Sun 08-Jun-25 21:36:34

Good posts, Allira.

I hope GN take on board what the vast majority of posters feel about this.

Allira Sun 08-Jun-25 21:36:15

brook2704 and Jaxjacky I went out to tidy some spring-flowering pots today and wore a fleece, it was so chilly outside. 16C, feels like 14C, apparently. More winter than nearly Midsummer's Day!

escaped

I've no idea why, but from time to time I am drawn to read this thread, like today.
To say that I am also exasperated at FGT's banning is putting it mildly. I'm livid that some sneak is still amongst us and probably feeling very pleased with themselves or acting all innocent. Perhaps one day they will realise how cruel they've been to a poster who really needs the support from other posters on here.
And I know for sure that GN adopted the same stance with maddyone too when she was reported and struggling.

Thanks for your post, escaped

I know that maddyone was reported but understand that she had posted nothing more controversial than many people post on the Estrangement threads.

Banning someone when they're distressed and pleading for help and support seems particularly harsh.

Good evening Kitcheners. UTBB that's very thoughtful of you..
Today I went to Aldi to buy chicken and ended up in the middle aisles 😱 I bought colouring in books for the boys and a glittery pink plant pot for me. And chicken! I decided to weed the drive and DD turned up with the boys. Dgs1 got stuck in immediately and helped. They stayed for a couple of hours and left. I had a lazy afternoon and made chicken and leek pie. I had some for dinner tonight and there's enough left for tomorrow. I also froze two individual pies. I've tidied up the kitchen and I'm on the couch watching rubbish on tv. I'm much more tired today than yesterday so it'll be an early night. Enjoy your evening Kitcheners

brook2704 Sun 08-Jun-25 20:20:10

That’s so kind uttb, I’d like to add my best wishes to everyone on here who is finding life difficult for whatever reason
I feel the cold too Jax and wish it would warm up a bit. Today’s not been bad here, dry with some warmth, TShirt weather for gardening. We’ve had an enjoyable day in the garden, DH has been doing some severe pruning of overgrown shrubs and trees so everything is looking a bit neater now. Just finished salmon, new potatoes and veg - sadly not home grown like yours probably are Jax but from Tesco
Thinking of everyone, take care all x

Jaxjacky Sun 08-Jun-25 20:03:13

How thoughtful utbb
A drier day, sowed some seeds and looked at pictures online from the wedding reception we went to last night.
The weather is still not warm enough for me, but improving this week, apparently.
I hope you all have a peaceful evening.

Grannyme6 Sun 08-Jun-25 17:03:28

I agree utbb, warmest wishes to those GNs with family health issues and going through tough times. 💐

Yiayia4 Sun 08-Jun-25 15:41:56

That’s very kind Usedtobeblonde. You had such a painful time.💐

Usedtobeblonde Sun 08-Jun-25 14:42:09

I should like to send warmest wishes to the others on this thread also battling very serious illness in their loved ones and those of us who have been there and done that.
It can bring painful reminders of our own sad and painful times.

SueDonim Sun 08-Jun-25 14:36:24

RosiesMaw, I’ve PM-ed you. smile

Horrified by this decision. FGT is one of the bravest women I have ever come across. She obviously loves her husband very much.I also enjoy reading about her life in Manchester and their happy place in Malaga. I appreciate there must have been a reason for this, but I do hope she can be reinstated as soon aspossible.

GrandmaC47 Sat 07-Jun-25 22:10:20

Well said, grandMattie. Fgt is so dear to us all.

grandMattie Sat 07-Jun-25 21:35:26

Another lurker. Horrified at FGT’s banning. All the best, dear lady, batting your corner!
Controversy is surely not a banning crime, is it? What ever happened to free speech?
