Hello everyone. A very cross Corner just needs to vent.

Today was loft insulation day. Complex process. Brutish Gas offered an assessment under the Government scheme, along came a surveyor from organisation A, took many photos to send to organisation B who would install. All agreed our 1987 insulated loft definitely needed more. A call came from organisation B booking installation for (far too) early this morning, all good so far

As advised by the Surveyor we moved items down, not easy but done. Two very pleasant men turned up, dragged stuff in, looked in the loft and said a call needed to their boss. Why? Apparently ‘regulations’ say water and heating pipes, ours are properly foam lagged and rest on the existing insulation, can’t be covered with another layer of insulation and must be raised up by a plumber. What? Never heard of that. I asked what the regulation was. They said they didn’t know but it had come into force about 18 months ago.

I’ve sent a complaint to organisation A asking why the surveyor didn’t pick this up, why the photos of the pipes were ignored and what the heck the regulation is. I’m kicking myself now for not demanding to speak to ‘the boss’ to get a proper explanation. We were both too stunned to think.

Cross? You bet. We’ve spent a very warm morning putting stuff back. I’m grubby and we’re both tired.

Thanks for letting me vent. Better than bendingg Mr C’s ear!

Hope your days are more positive.

Hello kitchen people.

Book group was fun. Only three out of eleven of us enjoyed Judi Dench’s book on Shakespeare. I loved it.

OH and I had a 49th anniversary dinner at one of our favourite restaurants. 49 years!

I hope all is well with the Soops and their visitors, and of course with the FGT2S.

Sleep 💤 tight.

Hi all, clever picture Nannytopsy I like it.
I’m a tall one, M&S long and not fond of cropped trousers, shorts or full length, usually straight legged.
Friend called for coffee and a chinwag this afternoon, then MrJ and I went to the opening of a pub S (son’s fiancée) has now moved to. Canapés and a happy buzz, lots of locals checking it out, it was pleasant in the garden.
I’ve never been to IKEA GG13, I won’t be rushing to change that, you’re brave!
Garden watered, dinner eaten - late, now to watch the moving pictures 🙂

A busy day for you Redcar

Redcar Thu 29-May-25 20:03:29

Hello everyone, warm but very windy here today. I’m home now after two days dog minding, I miss her when I’m home! A busy day, had an assessment of my application to renew my disabled parking badge, fortunately DD1 accompanied me and was able to add her voice to mine. I found it quite intimidating and was quite depressed by the time it was over. I came home afterwards and then went see my dementia friend. Another friend was also visiting so her DH was pleased. Other friend and I witnessed a new will that her DH had drawn up.
Then a friend of my godmother rang in a dilemma about getting a rollator for my godmother! Hopefully I’ve sorted that out, but if gm hates it I’ll probably buy it myself as it has bigger wheels than mine and should be better on uneven ground.
I’m tired now, can’t cope with too much excitement these days!
Have a pleasant evening everyone.

Nannytopsy Thu 29-May-25 19:04:31

I’m another shorty. Seasalt cropped trousers are a good length on me!

brook2704 Thu 29-May-25 18:58:43

Hope your feet are feeling better soon grandmabatty ❤️

brook2704 Thu 29-May-25 18:57:56

Well done with surviving the shopping GG, I agree that wide leg jeans take some getting used to, I recently bought some plus a pair of crinkle type fabric wide leg trousers and I love wearing them 👍
A mixed weather day here, warm and sunny one minute then rain the next, a bit of everything today.
I love the Highland Cow picture nannytopsy well done to your DGD, I actually saw one for real this afternoon in a nearby field!

Grandmabatty Thu 29-May-25 18:56:05

Good evening Kitcheners. Grannygravy I bought cropped trousers from next and they were the perfect full length for me! I, too, am a shortie.
I'm having a bad feet day today. They are so painful, so I think I'll have painkillers soon. Have a good evening Kitcheners

GrannyGravy13 Thu 29-May-25 18:06:23

I am exhausted, I have been to IKEA with DD and The Imp.

I purchased various things that I didn’t know I needed along with the picture frames that I went for 😹😹😹

We then popped into Lakeside where I got some wide leg jeans (they are cropped which means they are the exact length for me being a shorty). I had absolutely no intention of buying them as I am a skinny jean girl. They will take some getting used to.

Cheating for dinner M & S Chicken Kyiv, Jacket potato and various veggies.

Nannytopsy Thu 29-May-25 17:54:27

It’s quiet in here today! I took Dgd1 to an art activity today - painting a highland cow! Lots of children, with completely different results.
This afternoon I tried to deliver flyers for a concert at the church but I made the mistake of taking the granddog. I will try again tomorrow without her.
I hope you have all had a good day.

brook2704 Wed 28-May-25 23:09:12

Gorgeous flowers Jax such a vibrant pink colour, beautiful 🌺

Ladyleftfieldlover Wed 28-May-25 22:30:02

Hello kitchen people.

I allegedly had a quiet day today! I listened to two V&A lectures on the monarchy for the course I’m doing, plus a lecture on the history of London’s Markets.

OH was out for the evening with his beekeepers group.

Sleep 💤 tight especially those of you with difficulties.

Grran Wed 28-May-25 22:17:08

Hi everyone
We’ve had sunshine more than showers today, and I managed to deadhead the roses in the sun.
The garden has really perked up and the grass is green. Hooray!
DD has booked for us all to meet up at Chatsworth for Father’s Day so I feel quite blessed tonight.

Thinking of those with battles to fight.
G’night everyone.

Redcar Wed 28-May-25 20:30:40

Hello everyone. A warmer and drier day today fortunately. DD1’s dog had a good walk with the dog walker today and is now much happier because her family are home after two days sightseeing in London. They’ve walked miles but had a good time, brought back memories of me taking both DDs to the various museums etc when they were little.
blossoming that’s good that your surgery have arranged for blood tests to be done at home. Also good you were able to go for a walk yesterday and again today.

I hope soop is enjoying spending time with her family and hope they’ve been able to get out and about now that she has a wheelchair.

Have a peaceful evening, sleep well everyone.

Jaxjacky Wed 28-May-25 20:27:35

Obviously your Amaryllis is a late starter brook I'm no help for its future, houseplants and me dont gel!
How lovely Grandmabatty he must have been bursting with pride; your return to fitness will take time, annoying as that is, sorry, but you’ll get there.
Excellent service from your surgery Blossoming I should think so too, good you’re getting out and about.
Book club today for me, I wasn’t the only one who hadn’t read it, phew, then I collected some linen trousers ordered, im missing the M&S click and collect.
The wind and rain haven’t destroyed our (my) flowers, now at their peak, they make me very happy, but will soon we gone

brook2704 Wed 28-May-25 19:24:24

Good afternoon kitchen pals, it’s been a lovely day here in Inverness, just a bit windy but with lots of sunshine
Blossoming 💐
I enjoyed two dance type classes at the gym and then a coffee afterwards with my pal
Well done to your little superstar grandmabatty! 🥇
Hoping Soop is enjoying the family time, take care all x

Blossoming Wed 28-May-25 17:02:47

Good afternoon kitchen friends. Yesterday started off badly, I was very upset about the news from Liverpool, especially as I have family and friends there. I felt better after speaking to my sister.

I was also awaiting a call from my GP surgery about my kidney scan. I was dreading it in case it was the dreadful doctor that nearly killed me with a misdiagnosis and caused my recent spell in hospital. Fortunately it was one of the nurses that I have spoken to before, a lovely lady. She ran through the results with me then said it’s time for my annual bloods. I told her my mobility is now so impaired that I can’t go to the blood test clinic, she said no problem and is arranging for someone to come to the house and do it. That was quite a weight off my mind.

The rain actually stopped for a while yesterday afternoon, so MrB and I were able to get out for a walk. It has turned sunny this afternoon and we were able to get another walk.

I will try and catch up on your news, wishing you all a peaceful evening and a restful night ♥️

Grandmabatty Wed 28-May-25 16:35:46

Good afternoon Kitcheners. I have no idea Brook. I've never been successful with amaryllis plants.
This morning was devoted to dgs1's sports day. There were a number of parents and grandparents watching. Dgs1 was being Mr Cool but looked round anxiously for his granddad. I got a casual wave: grandad got a big hug. 😂 There were a number of house events which he took very seriously. Then the big event was a running race for each class. His class started it off and dgs1 won! What was especially nice was, the older boys he plays football with were shouting for him. It was really sweet. He was absolutely thrilled to win. After that, I had had enough and headed back to my car. I realised how wobbly and unfit I am as it took me a while to get there. My perception is still dodgy.
This afternoon I have done little. I've emptied and loaded the dishwasher but that's all. Tonight will be bolognaise for dinner. Mission 'empty freezer ' is well underway. Have a good evening Kitcheners

brook2704 Tue 27-May-25 22:28:29

Thank you Redcar, does anyone have any tips on how I should look after it from now on ? Thank you

Redcar Tue 27-May-25 22:19:28

brook the amaryllis is beautiful! I put mine outside when it’s warm enough and they often flower during the summer.

brook2704 Tue 27-May-25 20:11:57

That’s a very pretty tiled fireplace Jax well done to your DH 👍
The teachers sound really kind grandmabatty I’m sure they’ve missed you at school since your op. I’ve also got a list of jobs I really need to do but can’t get round to. Since DD2 moved house I’ve an ever increasing pile of stuff she’s asked my to try to sell on eBay, Vinted or locally, I don’t mind but it does takes ages to list it and then package it and post it etc 🙄
I’m not sure what’s happening with my Amaryllis- we’ve had this particular bulb about 3 years and tried to get it to flower again last Christmas but no luck. It’s been neglected at the back of the shed until about 2 weeks ago when I noticed buds and brought it inside, it’s in full flower now, 6 months later than planned!

Grandmabatty Tue 27-May-25 18:42:34

Evening Kitcheners. That fireplace looks lovely Jaxjacky. Nice to see you posting Tilly.
I am tired. First day of usual childcare arrangements. The boys were good. Dgs2 had a couple of feet stamping moments but we got over them. When I picked them up, a number of teachers came to ask how I was. I found that very touching. Tonight I had steak casserole and mash for dinner, courtesy of the freezer. Tomorrow might be bolognaise. I really need to clean the kitchen but I'm too tired, so it will wait until tomorrow. I hope everyone is well. Thinking of The Soops, Grannmarie, Doodle and FGTs in particular. Have a good evening Kitcheners

Jaxjacky Tue 27-May-25 18:28:22

Hi all, another one with slug/snail phobia I’m afraid cornergran, but I can see the attraction.
It’s rained nearly all day which I’m pleased about, could’ve done without the wind and cool temperature though.
Housework done, washing drying indoors, small amount of shopping done and reduced our Sky bill by nearly £20 a month.
Our quiz winnings of £15 will pay next week’s entry and a scratch card each, I’ve never had one before!
MrJ worked today tiling this fireplace, the client was very happy, more work ahead.
Have a lead ant evening all.

TillyTrotter Tue 27-May-25 16:58:53

He brightens my day cornergran thanks.
I hope there are glimmers of hope for the Fgt’s that Himself will conquer his latest obstacle with aplomb 💓
