Good morning everyone from Stockport on what is my 88th birthday.
I can’t quite believe it but I have had some lovely gifts, cards and emails so I am a very happy bunny while telling myself that people are being kind in case it’s my last !!

It is already 25 degrees here so I wont be out much until tonight when we are going to an Italian restaurant for a birthday meal and a cocktail.
I do know how lucky I am and I don’t ever take it for granted.
Have the best day you can everyone.

Back from one of our local Turkish restaurants, the GC call it holiday Turkish as opposed to the others which are rather TOWIE.

The Imp was a star, such a good boy. Food was delicious.

Looking forward to my bed, night night 🙋‍♀️

Redcar Fri 11-Jul-25 20:38:26

Still warm here, but there is a bit of a breeze, if only I could get it in the house! I’ve got several windows open but it’s still a sticky 28 degrees upstairs.
Your plant is doing well fgt. It obviously likes the location!
No luck for me at the lunchtime bingo session, but lunch was good, so I didn’t have to cook this evening. Too hot to do anything much, so sat in the shade and read a magazine and tried not to look at the messy garden. I may get the lawn mower out tomorrow just to cut the weeds down. There’s no actual grass to cut, it’s all brown and crisp!
Enjoy the rest of the evening everyone.

Nannytopsy

I didn’t make it yesterday either! It was our WI summer supper, in one lady’s garden. The committee prepared a buffet which was well received but by the time I got home I was “jiggered” to use an old fashioned word. Standing to cook for any length of time doesn’t suit my hip at all.
Redcar we have a similar problem. Our kitchen faces south, with 4 patio doors looking onto a stone patio. In the winter the room is quite warm but in the summer it gets very hot - over 30C recently. We are wondering about an awning which can be wound out when needed. Does anyone have any experience with them?
Lot to everyone in the quiet corner and to the poorly ones too.

I have an awning. My flat looks out over the Channel and can get very hot. The awning makes a lot of difference. I bought mine from a brilliant curtain shop that I have used since 1966! They are very good.
I bought an electric awning. That means, instead of winding the awning in and out by hand, (quite difficult if you are older or not very strong), I just press a button on the handset I was provided with and it goes in and out with no problem. I love my awning and can strongly recommend it, but make sure you buy from a reputable curtain shop. I, personally, would not trust buying one online from someone I don’t know and who I might not be able to find if anything goes wrong.
I live in East Kent. If you would like to know the details of the shop I bought from, please pm me.

Just starting to cool down here after a very hot day, too old for that lark FGT 😏
Out early this morning, farm shop, then stretch class and butchers - bbq mear.
Pub earlier, quite cool inside, a chat with friends and home, quiche ready for dinner
Have a pleasant evening all.

7pm I asked Alexa ‘what’s the temperature here’.
It’s 29°C.
I suppose humidity plays a factor.

Manchester, Heaton Park will be rocking at 8:15pm tonight when OASIS take the stage in this, their home town for 5 concerts.

Yiayia4 Fri 11-Jul-25 17:27:34

33deg here and too hot to be outside.

We are having a prawn salad tonight with some sourdough bread can’t face cooking.

I had my dexa scan this morning.Thank goodness the aircon in the hospital was working. The radiologist said it’s the best place to work in the summer.

My football GS has just returned from a trip to New York he had a brilliant time but is very tired.

Lots of love and healing thoughts Soop.🌻

Lovely plant *FGT.

Have a lovely holiday with your family Grandmabatty 🏖️🍹
Keep cool everyone.❄️

Beechnut Fri 11-Jul-25 14:55:40

You’ve obviously got green fingers as well as tomatoes FGT. 😂
It’s a lovely colour.
It’s too hot for me now and I’m not going to do anything much apart from keep hydrated.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 11-Jul-25 14:54:24

Oops I am hiding 🙈 I have come in from the garden, stripped off in the bedroom only to hear men’s voices, the window cleaners 😹

Thank goodness I didn’t have any music on as I wouldn’t have heard them and they would have found me naked on the bed, having a cool down before getting into the shower 😱😱😱

Nannytopsy Fri 11-Jul-25 14:34:20

Thank you Dragonfly. It’s nice to have an honest opinion rather than asking a salesman if it will do the trick.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 11-Jul-25 10:56:11

I watered my Tradescantia plant at 7am this morning before it got too hot. We bought it a few weeks ago, a tiny bit of plant delivered in the post. £15. I didn’t have much hope for it to be honest when I put it in a pot at our front door but it’s come on beautifully! It now has tiny pink buds of flowers developing amongst the leaves.

It makes me happy every time I see it as it reminds me of Málaga where it grows everywhere with seeming neglect - which is why I thought I’d risk one here. I hardly water it - trying to keep it in the Spanish tradition! 😁

Good evening Kitcheners. It's a beautiful night, clear and warm and very still. I've just stood outside revelling in it.
Today I cleaned all the windows and generally tidied up. I did a washing too and got it hung out and dried. It's been very warm and the fan has been on all day.
Tomorrow I'll wash my bedding then pack my case for holiday. I'm a home bird and get quite anxious about going away but it'll be fine. Toya. Nngb

Nannytopsy our sitting room faces south and we had an awning fitted as soon as we moved in. That was 28 years ago. We recently had it replaced. It is very large and has lights underneath on the wall. We love it and it keeps the room cool.

Jaxjacky Thu 10-Jul-25 19:39:19

Oh, well done GG13
What a flipping pain utbb hope that leak is now fixed, well done your daughter, not a decision she took likely I'm sure.
All jobs done by 1, local shop, watered greenhouse at 8, a quick vac downstairs and cloakroom cleaned before a legal bod came at 11:30 to sort our POA’s, he returns next week for signing.
Sitting with the chiller wafting cool air is bliss, dinner will be later tonight.
Feet up Blossoming I'm pleased you enjoyed it.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 10-Jul-25 19:20:15

The 10yr old and DH are at the BBQ I have made all the salads, enjoying a glass of white wine with ice (more ice than wine)

I am a very happy bunny as I got the five seconds to name right on Radio 2 Trevor Nelson’s show this afternoon (I am easily pleased)

Blossoming Thu 10-Jul-25 18:54:00

Hi all, just a quick visit as I’m very tired this evening. We have been seeing family today and have had two walks. I find socialising tiring though it was nice to see everyone.

Sleep tight, TOYA

Usedtobeblonde Thu 10-Jul-25 11:26:42

Enjoy your holiday Brooke
Good morning all.
I got up this morning to a flooded kitchen worktop.
The boiler I had installed in May at a cost of £4,400 is leaking.
An engineer is coming between 12 and 6.
My D is 60 today, I can’t really believe it but there it is.
She has taken the very brave but very difficult decision to close her business, she has had it 10 and a half years.
She has had good times and difficult times but has had enough so it closes in two weeks.
She has 6 part time staff who are very understanding and supportive.
She is single and I just hope things go well for her.
Do a mother’s worries ever end?
As always kindest thoughts go to those unwell and their carers.
Have the best day you can.

Hi kitchen pals, just popping my head around the kitchen door to say hello and hope all is well
I’m having a break from my iPad whilst on holiday and feeling so much better for it, but I just wanted to check into the kitchen and catch up on news
So sorry to hear of Soops further problems but good to see FGT back
A belated Happy Birthday to Blossoming 🎂💐🥂
All is going well on our relaxing holiday, thank you for all your kind messages
Thinking of everyone in the quiet corner, take care all x
