A follow on from the name your three favourite cities
(Which I found very hard as I have far more than three favourites)

Ipswich - one of my favourite U.K. hotels is on the marina, but the town - sorry I just don’t like it 🤷‍♀️

Cannes - over rated, over priced, overly pretentious €€€

Marbella - with all the wonderful places in Spain, why does this attract the so called celebs 💁‍♀️

Eurovision is open to members and associates of the European Broadcasting Union, hence Australia, Armenia and Russia, amongst others, are/were eligible.

Middlesborough and Riga.

I was very sick in Florence and almost had a miscarriage in Rome. These 2 events rather put me off!

It goes to show how partial we are!
I adore Edinburgh so nowhere nearly matches up.
Surely it's not more expensive than London Silverlining?
After all, the museums and art galleries are free as are the wonderful Royal Botanic Gardens. I have been to Botanic Gardens the world over and Edinburgh has one of the very best.

Greyduster I forgot about Great Yarmouth 🤐 I think my mind has done me a great favour.

Mons in Belgium. Dreary town with unfriendly unhelpful people.
Great Yarmouth.
Saltzburg - totally up it’s own backside.

I love Naples!
Not a fan of Edinburgh or Stockholm...

A lot of them aren’t even cities.

I was just wondering about that.
I think several are towns.

I've heard Naples is awful. There are some nice old buildings, but evetything is covered in graffiti, the crime rate is high, rubbish is everywhere and it smells.

Edinburgh, dislike the dark stone and weather.
Hate street theatre too.

I can see some hurt feelings ahead for GN residents of some of these places😲

Madrid, Warsaw and Paris.

I know we are in the Eurovision Song Contest but I thought that since David Cameron's referendum we were no longer part of Europe. Perhaps I am wrong.

You certainly are wrong. We are still part of Europe, that can hardly change, but we are out of the EU trading bloc.

I went to Brussels in 1990 and apart from the Grand Place and the royal palace, not much to recommend it, apart from it being fairly cheap for a capital city then.
Rotterdam is ugly and not worth visiting, unless you're catching a ferry.
In this country, I'd say Sunderland is one of the worst cities. It's not a patch on Newcastle for shopping, the city centre is ugly, although the sea front at Seaburn is surprisingly quite nice.

Yes, I also wonder what happened in Newcastlekeepingquiet unless you mean the other one -Newcastle under Lyme (which would be understandable)

Georgesgran Fri 23-May-25 20:41:24

Obviously it’s a sweeping statement, with so many parts to each City - so London, Paris and Rome (sorry MD)
Love NY 🍎 and wonder what happened in Newcastle keepingq?

London, Paris and New York, but tbh, I don’t like cities much and haven’t visited any for a few years, I, fortunately we, prefer towns, villages even more.

I do understand, it’s not the prettiest place but there are sime wonderful beaches and lakes surrounding Berlin only a short tube ride away.

Curlywhirly Fri 23-May-25 19:23:46

Benidorm
Magaluf
Blackpool

Casdon Fri 23-May-25 17:54:36

I think it’s all the grey concrete silverlining. I’m not knocking Berlin as a city, but it’s not the prettiest, and the former east is grey.
