Don't Men Use Shampoo?

The males in my family do. Tge products generally used are for both body and hair. Dove products seem the basic with often high end products on view in the bathroom.

I think it depends where you are.

Here shampoo, deoderants etc are advertised for men, and sold as men's products.

Household shopping here in Denmark is usually done by whichever adult in a household has time, so men buy these products as probably as often as women do.

From the first day I met my DH, he’s used head and shoulders and my eldest AS does the same. My middle AS buys an expensive men’s hair and beard shampoos, he and his partner admit they’re both high maintenance 😂

I remember years ago I liked the smell of a sham0oo called Timotei herbal.
It had dark green writing on a white bottle and dark green top.
Haven't seen it for 35 years.
I reckon most shampoos are basically the same.
But I did like that smell and would buy lots if I could.
I had no notion of conditioner until I was nearly 40.
I just used shampoo. And had long luxuriant hair in my youth.
I think there's a lot of advertising hype.
Be interesting to do a blind test.

I’m not showing him that picture, Notspaghetti! He loves the smell of lavender and we can’t afford to have two people in this house with expensive tastes.

Oh no! thankfully that's not the case he's still with me, it's his hair, both lack of it, on top, that is, and the colour.

Will he consider Just For Men? I suggested it to DP and he just grunted dismissively.

I think younger generation of men will use luxury branded shampoos, I mean a lot have facials & eyebrows waxed these days.
I can’t imagine them using washing up liquid 😂

I think I may have an Avalon shampoo lurking in the cupboard, which is a clarifying lemon one.

Oreo The first time I came across Klorane was in the early 1970s when I shared a house with a fairly wealthy young man who was picky about all sorts of products and who used it daily (and let me use it).
It was a revelation to me. How luxurious it seemed to me then!

I tried it recently (think it was a chestnut one)? when I found it in TKMaxx - it was still lovely!

My husband uses the Avalon Organics (that I buy for myself). He doesn't have much hair but we both like it and use it daily.

Just nipped into the shower to check his shampoo, it’s Peony and is a pretty pink colour😄
I use any old shampoo that’s on special offer.

My dad always used washing up liquid. He had a really good head of hair right to the end of his life.

My Dh uses Johnson’s baby shampoo. He has sensitive skin and very fine hair and baby shampoo suits him well. A bottle lasts ages!

This was what my husband always used for the same reason... until he discovered mine on holiday!

I remember when my son was about 17 complaining that his hair needed washing a lot lately.
I asked him which shampoo he was using. He told me the one in the yellow bottle.
It was conditioner 😄

Dh used to use protein shampoos which were quite cheap. Cheap by comparison that is with my organic rose shampoo which he has now discovered so I have had to get him his own bottle - somehow he gets water in it so I keep mine separate.

DH always had a lovely full head of hair; never bought his own shampoo, but I would buy him the men's all-in-one shampoo/body wash, which he was happy to use.

My DH says he is fine just using a bar of soap.

It almost makes me wonder why ladies are not fine if they were to wash their hair with a bar of soap.

My friend has the most beautiful brilliant white hair - washed for many years now with Imperial Leather bar soap. A girl I went to school with had waist length blond hair in remarkably good condition, as she washed it with Fairy Liquid.

What surprises me most about posts like this is that people still take notice of TV ads- they must still be doing something right!

Waitrose Essential shampoo or Boots equivalent; not much hair to use it on, but I do my beard as well.

Younger men who do wash their hair don't tend to watch terrestrial TV, ads on Tik Tok and other sites advertise products for them.
Older gents, who tend more to hair loss have various choices, as mentioned, MrJ, who is balding, uses shower gel to wash all over, including his head.
