Anyone for Sausage…….Dogs?

My DD has a couple. And has just taken on a puppy that someone gave up as he was the wrong dog for their situation, they should have got a fully trained older rescue really
They are so loving and cuddly, but they also happily go on nice long walks, which 2 of them really enjoy, the other does it but wouldn't choose to. They are brave, and well yes I guess they can be dressed up, but they really need a fleece coat when it's cold or very wet, because their short legs mean they get cold wet tummies
Her partner has no worries about having sausages, they are big dogs in little bodies. Look up the story of Valerie the sausage dog who survived over 500 days after being lost on an island off Australia. A big dog in a little body

Yes they really need ramps to help them onto the sofa or your bed,

Our granddogs

We have a daxi poodle cross called Raffi.
He is highly intelligent, loving, a tiny bit stubborn and doesn't bark unless he's in protection mode.

Thanks Cossy. I’m becoming less tolerant no doubt linked to my young lab being attacked twice by Jack Russell’s and once by two labs. Yes he’s reactive as a result and yes we are working on this - xx

I must admit I hadn't really paid much attention to dachshunds, until this weekend's Formula 1 race in Monaco (yes,🙊 I know!). I'm smitten by Charles Leclerc's gorgeous puppy Leo. He has a great life, no doubt.

They definitely are happy if not controlled, we are strict with them, my daughter less so, but my house my rules haha

I’d say your gripe is with owners and how can one person control 5 dogs eh!

I’m not a fan and feel bad for saying that on this fan page. They’re hugely popular and good to look at. Big dog attitude in small dog body.

My experience is they yap bark and yap again. They lunge and bark at other dogs. I’ve had 5 of them off lead jumping all over my sensitive lab, who is on lead for a reason. Theyre friendly the owner shouted. I said please call them, my dog will react if they continue to pester him. If he stands on one accidentally, he’s five stone so could hurt one

Maybe my complaint is with irresponsible owners 🐶

My youngest daughter and her husband have reached a stalemate in choosing a dog. My daughter only wants a miniature dachshund which she can dress up ( Yes, I know!) but my son-in-law wants a man's dog, as he puts it, to go charging through woods and diving into ponds on long walks.

“Our” doxies walk for miles, run around, they been up hills and dales and even a peak in the Peak District.

They are very hardy, but also, once home, don’t mind a bit of fuss and dressing up!

I 🥰 dachshunds of any type. Interestingly I read that they’re one of the hardest dogs to train. They’re def real characters.

I’d agree, I think they’re hard to train as they are very stubborn, not because they are daft!

Remember the name means badger hound - so way back they were proper hunting dogs, hence the (often daft) braveness.
Sadly, the KC standard encourages longer backs, leading to mobility problems for some. I’m sure your family owners know all the pros and cons as they have 3.

I prefer the smooth shiny tan and black ones.😄Wouldn’t do for us all to be the same would it?

Oh I do love the miniature long haired ones. Not sure why but I just do.

My least favourite dogs. We live next door to a dog walking fields and the worst yappers are the dachshunds - which often come in groups.

We felt the same when DD2 announced they were getting a long haired miniature dachshund but we absolutely love him.He has a great character.He has just been groomed in the photo hence the dapper look!
