WhatsApp yea or nay?

As I’ve been locked out of Facebook and messenger on my iPad maybe I need to start using it as a way of being able to message people?

I can text my DD and call her, video chat at any time and it’s free .. can’t believe she’s in NYC as the quality of calls is 5* and texts/chats soo speedy😀

As with many, it is a must do me with one son who spends his working life abroad and the other lives abroad

Welbec. It's a way of sending messages through WiFi. You can message individuals or have a group chat.
I have a family chat for me, DH and our adult children. It's quite useful for making arrangements.
My sewing group has a chat but I mute it.

You could save your £4 per month for a start!

How did we live without it?

I don't understand what it is really so obviously I am not on it.
I am not in large social groups.
I don't contact anyone overseas.
I never go abroad.
I have inclusive calls and texts for 4pound a month.
And a few giggly bites.
I do pay for wi fi separately.

I can't see any advantage for me to be on it.
What am I missing?

I wish there were widely accepted norms or rules for posting on large WhatsApp groups. As PPs have said, it’s so tedious when every member of a group feels obliged to answer the same response to a poster, i.e. thanks or lovely photo or thinking of you, etc!! Or even just 20 thumbs ups when the organizer issues details of an event. Drives me mad. I usually end information messages with No Need to Reply…… despite which within seconds someone will have posted some unnecessary response!!!!

Also, I think it’s bad from to post a joke or a meme or your own photo, straight after someone else has asked a question or shared something sad or personal which does invite a response. It moves theirs up thread where it mightn’t be seen, and seems thoughtless.

I could go on…..🙄🙄 but I won’t. WhatsApp is generally great and I love it!

I've got lots of contacts on WhatsApp but any groups, apart from family, I have muted notifications as I can't stand my phone pinging.

Great for keeping in touch down under and free phone calls!
I rarely respond to the angst on big group messages! Tedious !

I love WhatsApp. I use it for family messages, photos and phone calls and all free! We also have a family wordle group where we put our results of that and Connections, Strands and Quordle. It gets very competitive.

I use WhatsApp for friends and family plus our street group. I've also found that quite a few businesses prefer WhatsApp messages to texts.
My phone has been on silent for a number of years now, so I don't get noisy notifications!

I'm another who finds it useful for family and small groups of friends. It's great for sharing a photo and making arrangements.

It’s great for friends and family and saves me a fortune in phone calls to France and Germany. I wouldn’t want to be part of a big group though.

I'm another one who finds it very useful, but also only for family and friends. We use it for keeping track of who is picking GS up from school etc. It's also handy for using if you are abroad as you can message without any charges.

Use it for friends and family plus a three social groups I'm in for organising get togethers. I find it really useful.

Yes foxie48, I'm relatively new to the app but find it very good for connecting with my far flung family of Boy's, who are very happy to use it too, which a bonus! ☺

Mine is just for family and a few, very close friends. I wouldn’t be without it.

I use WhatsApp for family and close friends only. As BlueBelle said large groups can become tedious.

I use WhatsApp with friends and family. My grandchildren all communicate using it. Youngest grandson calls me via WhatsApp as its free. I know when it is him calling as I gave him a different ringtone.

Yes for family and close friends but NO for anything else. Although I am in a charity WhatsApp group and have had to mute the notifications as the constant ping ping ping was driving me nuts but I still need to read many of the messages.

I use Messenger. Similar but through Facebook. I keep in touch with my daughters individually and in a joint group and a few other family members and friends. So don't need or want WhatsApp as well. Must go ... younger dàughter has just sent me a photo!

I prefer Facebook for family and friends but use WhatsApp for a couple of U3A groups I belong to.
