The Internet is almost purely an advertising platform

I get plenty of unwanted ads but I just ignore them. They eventually seem to twig!

How are people using an ad blocker and still being able to access websites?
I used to have ad blocker, but now a message will come up telling me I am using one so need to disable it to access whatever site I'm on. I can't view sites if I have the ad blocker on.

I get that message on some sites, but generally I have no problem with the generality of sites I access.

The sites most likely to do this are newspaper sites - and anything they are reporting will be reported elsewhere, so I do just that, go elsewhere.

I use AdBlock which is free and keeps most of the adverts away. I think you will always get a few.
I use FB but keep my own timeline private and only add friends that I know.

The internet is what you make of it.

I use an adblocker. Hardly any ads on my screen.

My email is almost entirely free of spam; due to care and discretion.

I 'm not on FB. In those place where I do "appear" online, my real name does not. Nor do my photograph, DOB, address, happy birthday/ anniversary dates, or any trackable family details.

Exactly, I am on Facebook, but only in a closed group, which only my friends can access, and I control that list.

I unsubscribe from all email from stores I shop in, I get very few advertising emails and even fewer scam emails.

I think I’m lucky as I seem to have the ability to block out advertising.

Likewise I never watch television programmes (well unless it is a national emergency or something similar)if it has adverts, I always record and fast forward, although they are trying to get around that I notice.

Most media you tolerate advertising. I have ad and pop up blocker switched on and use Duck Duck Go as browser which cuts many out the rest I just ignore.

The BBC is ad free but you pays a licence for that, some others are sponsored, looking at this GN page I don’t see any ads at all

Same with advertising, you mention toothpaste next thing an advertisement pops up for toothpaste.

I have an ad blocker. I find the internet almost unbearable to use without one.

Do you pay for that preference Church view?

My bug bare is, say you are talking to your partner, for example, I mentioned a certain store in America, two days later a woman pops up on YouTube, doing a video of that store. How can that be? We have our mikes switched off on our phones & tv 🤔

You have to pay nanna8 if you don’t want adverts.

Every mortal thing on the Internet these days is infested by advertising - not just at the beginning of an item but now halfway through and at the end.
Now there's often two ads at the start of an item, back to back, and the Wimpey Taylor homes ad popped in the other day when I was looking up a list of possible GP's in my area. Then again. And again.

Mister Wimper and Mister Taylor: stuff your rubbish new builds down your throat or up your backside - your preference - and leave the NHS alone. And the Internet. Yes, I know I can have Internet access without ads. If I pay for it!
