Low Level Letterboxes - Do You Have One?

I also deliver leaflets when election time comes around and yes, they are dreadful.
Very difficult to bend down, hold flap open and deliver letters etc.
They should be banned.

)They are awful, and most letter boxes now seem to have two scrubbing brushes fitted inside. When I go leafletting I take a ruler or wooden spatula to force leaflets inside, (not fair to leave them hanging outside.

we had a new front door fitted with a low level letter box, and of course it is stiff due to the spring being new, postie is always complaining but I don't know what else to do, if I see him coming I rush to front door to open it save him trying to push mail through cannot afford another new door, did think of getting a mail box style thing for outside but a bit unsure about security i case mail/ parcels get stolen

I live an apartment where the letters are delivered to the door by the postperson. However every single apartment, all 200 odd of them have the same front door with a low level letter box. What were they thinking of when they installed them! But then the developers were Carillion and look what happened to them. I think that if I was a postie here I would refuse to deliver any more and insist that perhaps post boxes were installed on each floor one for each apartment. Parcels are left in the concierge's office.

I used to deliver the Xmas post when I was a student and always hated one particular house which had a glass front door with a floor level letterbox and a Rottweiler who would hurl himself at the door when I bent down to deliver Xmas cards. Very scary!!!

We don’t get letters delivered to the door, never have. We have a postbox at the top of the front garden which is normal in Australia. Usually they are waist height. Much better for the posties who mostly have motorbikes and don’t have to actually dismount, just post and ride on. The only things that we get delivered to the doorstep are parcels where they leave stuff in the porch. Lucky for us we live in a safe area so no issues.

I don’t get why they are designed like that. I had one on my cottage door, it used to rattle & open in the wind. Apart from the postie bending down ( I never really thought about that, being young & fit) but more worried about rats getting in as I lived near a river. Blanked it off & had a post box put higher up the door as it was wood back in the day.

When we changed our front door a couple of years ago we changed to no integral letterbox and have a box similar to yours Wiff.

Don't like letter boxes in doors. Did have one in my old house half way up the door. When I replaced the door here it was the old wooden one from the 70's ,had a solid door with coloured glass so I could see who was outside . Have a large post box on my wall near the door at height so no bending down for posties has wide slit and sloping lid .

My tip, when delivering leaflets - take a ruler, fold leaflet over ruler then push it through the letterbox. NB. keep hold of the ruler😂
In our village it’s not only low level boxes, sometimes it’s takes ages to discover where post is supposed to be left. One of my neighbours has a brick pillar by the back door.

Yep-I leanred this in my leaflet delivery days. I recently had a new front door and made sure the letter box was mid-height and wouldn't make life difficult for posties. The letter box is the biggest I could have too, and doesn't have those annoying brush things lining it either...

I deliver leaflets every year for a local charity event and haven’t come across many low level ones. I’d be wary of snapping teeth at the other side, but that’s not such a problem since I discovered the art of poking the leaflets through with a stick.

My favourite people are those who have a little letter box by their front gate.

Can’t stand them, eventually delivering leaflets I passed them by. They should be banned.

Three houses ago we acquired a low level one when we bought the house. Our cat used to use it as a cat flap, so it got stuck in the porch and nearly died from heatstroke.

I used to deliver the local free papers and always dreaded these. I agree there needs to be a height restriction on letter boxes.

My neighbours have one and very occasionally I have to post misdirected mail into it .
I feel so sorry for the postman .
It's awkward to access .

They are a pain which I found out delivering papers many years ago. Be kind to posties 😃

My Dad was a Postman years ago . He often complained about the low level letter boxes.
